It’s a closed Tizen OS, no ads, since when did a TV / monitor gui have ads????
Ads have been common on TVs for a while now. However for my LG TV the only time I see ads is when I enter the app store to load or update applications.

I don’t see any ads when watching content and I don’t see any ads in the main settings menus.

Actually what I hate the most is cable TV / IP TV occasionally now has ads on actual content - banner ads like on websites. It’s the worst when they cover subtitles or critical scene elements. I’m not sure but some seem to be generated from the set top box equipment but others are probably baked into the actual broadcast stream.

Again tired of people whining - if this is good enough for you - great! Pre-order it but why whine about what Apple could’ve or should’ve done.
I was expressing my opinion on the value of a stand that people might use once and how a manufacturer can include one for no extra charge while another charges half the price of the monitor for a stand.

But, I wonder how you go through life never commenting ("whining") about what some company could've or should've done? Well done. /s

Sorry, I didn't read the entire thread because it has gotten very long.

I just want to say that I use a 4K 32" Samsung display with a Mac (native resolution) as my main work setup (software developer). I stare at this screen for 8+ hours every day and it never causes me any issues. I love it, so much screen real estate.

Maybe you tried it once and you didn't like it, but I think you just need to give it a day or two and you would get used to it.
No. I have tons of experience with development and design on displays for 25 years and have seen everything up until now. Anything less than the displays Apple produces, or the handful of made for Apple equivalents, are simply inferior when used with macOS today, and literally anyone can see it with functioning eyes.

Whether or not some people are still in 2022 willing to accept less quality from other displays is an entirely different topic. Spoiler: yes, a lot of people are willing.

You have 25 years experience and state Apple produces displays….

A 32" 4k display. AKA completely useless to a Mac user.

At this point I'm not sure who to blame. Apple for not providing any kind of display scaling other than 2x, or the display market for continuing to ignore the size of the Mac user base.
You know apples laptops nomore comes with 2x scaling by default? Apple scalling wotks better with 2x but not ecen them are using it, iPhones neither

Will that drive your purchase decision?

It would be a factor to consider, yes. Having a cord that has to be either wrestled from its socket or wrapped around the stand if I ever need to move the monitor to another location would rub me up the wrong way instantly.

700$, HDR, colors, useful stand,...

Take that, Studio Display.
View attachment 1982367
Is the Studio Display overpriced? Debatable (more on that below), but this Samsung panel is not even remotely in the same league. The Studio display has 600 nits max brightness, and that is still not bright enough to be considered HDR. There is no way a 400 nits panel can display HDR content. Secondly, the Samsung panel is a 4K panel in a 32" diagonal display; so less pixels per inch over more screen real estate, which means resolution will not be as sharp when displaying natively on a Mac.

There is a reason no other manufacturer is selling 5K+ panels, they are crazy expensive with a niche audience. I suspect one of the reasons the Studio Display is "pricey" apart from the standard issue Apple tax and the A13 processor powering it, is they will sell so few of them, that they will need to recoup the cost of R&D and dedicated manufacturing capacity.

Considering the Studio Display is $300 more than the closest rival spec for spec, the LG Ultrafine 5K, I think the price is actually not bad considering the build quality and materials. As is, Apple could have created more value by at least including the adjustable stand as standard.

I actually like Apple's scaling with a 4K display, with nice and large icons (speaking of a 27" display).

On my secondary 1440p display (27") the UI is so small and if I enlarge it, it's too big.

I love the scaling at 4K (27")
On the other hand, I'll eventually get a 5k display, and I'm afraid I'll get a similarly bad experiencd.

Your post won’t mean much to most people if you don’t list the screen sizes.

Ok. Weird...in my decades of living and using tech going way back, I've yet to need to replace a damaged AC cord.

No doubt a few hundred devices. Apparently I've been living life on the edge.

I have a 22" LG Ultrafine at 219 dpi. I am spoiled. 500 nits.
For comparison, I have a 27" LG 4K and a 34" Dell 1800R 21:9 panel.

Both suck compared to the teeny weeny insy small 22" inch. I will gladly give up screen size for razor sharp text.

The Samsung might be passable to me if it was $500 w/ a 27" 4K panel like what I have with my LG.I am even willing to spend $600 for a 27" because that is what I use my 27" LG 4k display for. I have an Amazon Fire TV stick in the back and I switch when I want to use my macbook in my bedroom. My home office has the 34" Dell and 22" LG. But once in a while, I like to work in my bedroom so I would gladly spend a little money for those smart tv features and part time monitor.

And I code as well. Using Sublime or Visual Studio Code on the LG 22" is a pleasure. I can't go back to anything vastly inferior. DPI matters.

It‘s weird that some users might need to take a monitor to different locations semi-regularly and don’t really want to have the cord knotted around its stand in transit? Weird isn’t the word I’d use but each to their own.

Samsung and Samsung Display are separate companies that do not necessarily give "deals" to one another. In other words, Samsung is likely paying Samsung Display the same as every other monitor manufacturer.
Sure, possible, although we wouldn't know. But still, 4K panels are cheaper and more common than 5K panels, regardless.
