Conspiracy theory -- Samsung threw this together quickly when they saw the Studio Display. Probably all off the shelf parts other than the housing/stand.

It actually looks like a pretty good deal. Also, Samsung being Samsung, it won't be long before they'll toss in one of these for like $200 with an order of one of their higher end laptops (if you want anything Samsung, sign up for their e-mail and monitor their store, they're always running deals and throwing in free or deeply discounted stuff).

Wow .. look at the gaps around the ports.

Also I thought the chassis was Aluminum initially, (which might at least make up for the price) but it appears to just be cheap plastic.

It does look nice - from a distance I guess.
Oh wow, looks like no VESA ability out of the box either.

Some smart TVS/monitors have decent UI design, but the vast majority force you to go into their interface or Home Screen (because that’s where the ads are displayed) before going to the input you want.

If it must be smart, all I care about is being able to push the power button and going straight to the input, but few offer this (because “cheap” smart devices subsidize their costs by collecting data and placing ads to make up on the backend).

Smart-TVs with a Roku interface don't show ads for anything but content (and even then, it's minimal and off to one corner of the screen).

... or those of us who bought one the original 22" LG Ultrafine and have been waiting to buy a second screen waiting, waiting, waiting for the imminent arrival of a new Apple screen. No I just have to wait, wait, wait for it to be available.

Well, since their target audience is clearly looking for cheap knock-offs to begin with, it does actually seem a pertinent choice, no?

I have a 22" Ultrafine. best monitor. But back to the knock-off imagery in their marketing. Doesnt bode well. I instantly saw it because I have that Nelson Swag desk. The dividers are too thick, the edge panel has too much of a gap and the leg screws are expose outwards. Definitely a knockoff of a $3k desk. And those knock-offs are not cheap, they still sell for $1500. But yeah, I guess people who buy knockoffs wont care. If they used the real thing, I could at least picture it on MY desk.

This was actually announced in January, during CES 2022. You can find a few articles and videos about it back then. It's just getting a lot of coverage now because pre-orders have opened. So maybe it's Apple that quickly threw together the Studio Display after seeing this... ??

(Kidding aside, I'm aware that it takes more than a few months to develop and manufacture a new product.)

Hey, did someone consider running Luna display from a thunderbolt Mac/PC on a 27" iMac (2014-2020) (5k)? It can actually run at 5k. It can run through wifi or ethernet.

700$, HDR, colors, useful stand,...

Take that, Studio Display.

Its capped at 400 nits and doesn't support the wider p3 color gamut. Even if it "supports" HDR its specs are nowhere near what HDR actually is, and what is needed to actual make HDR look better than a basic stream. Basically a useless spec for that monitor.

Except that the M8 monitor was unveiled at CES in January.

Still too small. I’m still enjoying my 40” Samsung chroma 4:4:4. Works great with my 2018 mini. It also has a remote to turn it on/off. You can hook up to 4 computers to it.

This is a consumer product. Should make a good combo with a MacBook Air or a Mac Mini.

It's actually hilarious how much they did copy the iMac design and colors
It’s actually hilarious how Apple chose the term “Studio” for a category that clearly aims at the same professionals as Microsoft’s Surface Studio.

In short - everybody copies. Everybody admits now and then that the other is on to something.

And while copying they get something else better.

Oh this looks nice, much better than the iMac and I love how you can run apps without a computer connected. Haven’t even thought of this for a non-tv. Might get one from my tax return money
I have the M7 that came out last year and I am quite satisfied honestly. It is nearly identical to this one, minus the colors, height adjustable stand, and the webcam. I love the USB-C port, and the size is just perfect. I have 8 windows open, neatly organized around the screen. I can see everything in a glance. It's great!

For anyone who moans that this is a Samsung copy cat product, it’s not, the M7 smart monitor was released last year with very similar specs, the M8 looks like an incremental update.

I bought the M7 last year and have it connected to my MacBook Pro via USB-C and it works perfectly including charging and sound from the internal speakers.

Also has Apple Music, Netflix and YouTube apps built-in and Airplay, a great all-in-one product at an affordable price.

1. Windows doesn't benefit from anything higher than 4K. It has awful display scaling and it is going to look awful no matter what you do. You can get away with these large, low PPI displays on Windows because it really doesn't matter.
I dunno. Maybe I'm just not as discerning, but I have one of those reject 5K iMac panels that they crammed into a generic monitor shell and it looks pretty good in Windows! The OS gives you different scaling options and, in my experience, one of them is bound to work to make things look good and work well. And it only really comes up with older applications. New(ish) things typically look great right out of the... downloads folder (can't say box anymore, I guess).

This is definitely the case in, say, Windows 8 though.

Starting at $1000 more. And if you want a tilt stand it will cost you. And if you want both a height and tilt adjust stand then it will cost you even more. And you can’t change the stands yourself, you need to take it to an Apple store if you decide that you need one of the other stands.

The Apple screen is brighter and it has a 5K resolution, instead of only a 4K. If these 2 things are important to you then you really have only one choice: buy the Apple Studio Monitor. If price is higher up on your list of concerns then this Samsung monitor may be an acceptable compromise.
The difference between 4 and 5k feels like an apple gimmick honesty. Unless all of us have the eyes of a 3 year old Pergerine falcon it’s a gimmick.

Almost bought gen 1 smart monitor which had 2 hdmi and even hdmi arc but now with one micro hdmi it’s a HELL NO to me

What do you mean, using the monitor you will see ads like on a basic Kindle Reader?
Example here:
They won’t show up when you are using it as a monitor but if you go to the OS portion, you will see ads (probably, unless the company treats this differently from their TVs, which is unlikely given the ads are baked into their OS).

My last experience with Roku was their ridiculous “cityscape” background that put ads on the billboards. Hated everything about it.
