Looks good (as an obvious copy of Apple design) but a 4k display with Samsung's "smart" features is not a draw, unless there is no advertising in the operating system. Given how their TVs are, it's likely it will be full of ads and tracking. I keep my Samsung TV disconnected from any network because of the ads and tracking. Normally I don't care that much about "privacy" but Samsung smart TVs have so many ads that they are distracting. I guess I could block them with my PiHole but it's easier to keep the TV dumb and use an Apple TV instead.
Normally I would agree, as we have a Samsung smart TV and have fully experienced what you're talking about--ads upon ads and SO much bloatware that it won't let you delete. My husband actually got so sick of it I went and bought a Roku streamer so that we could bypass the crap everytime we turned the TV on.

However, we also have the earlier version of this monitor (the M7) and it's actually pretty good. My husband uses it with his Samsung laptop (I'm the Apple fanatic in this family ?) and he loves the screen quality. No excessive bloatware, and he likes the fact that it has a remote and he can use it to stream our entertainment apps--essentially use it as a TV, a computer monitor, and with AirPlay (he does have an iPhone and iPad--my influence ?).

The irony is that having more of what they need in this display is only going to cause the fanboys to complain more about the Studio Display not being what they want…

I would have considered this, but after looking at more photos from Samsung's website it's a pass from me. From the front, it looks fine. But the back of it makes it look like a toy. Its plastic-y, striped, and (if you get a non-white one) the stands and back don't match.

This looks like it was designed for Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest setups.
My LG 27" 4K is white plastic on the back, but I never remember because how often are you really looking back there?

Clearly the display Apple should have released. Though I do wonder how good the HDR could be at 400 nits. The Studio Display is 600 nits. I gotta think that makes a huge difference, no?

700$, HDR Support*, colors, useful stand,...
In otherwords, it'll play HDR, but it's not HDR (like the ASD).

What I'm seeing is basically a mediocre spec 32" smart TV in a nice looking monitor-like chassis. Am I missing something ?

So I'm considering this as a primary display for WFH purposes, today I use a 27" LG 4K monitor with a MacBook at scaled 2560 x 1440 resolution. About 5% of the time, I do also use it with various Windows PCs I have, which makes the Studio Display not optimal.

What should I expect from scaling (downgrade?) going from 4K 27" 2560 x 1440 to this Samsung at 32"?

EDIT: another reason this appeals to me... while not using it for WFH, I could use AirPlay 2 in order to easily use it as a second monitor to my Pro Display XDR, without messing with wires, etc.

Very interesting... I believe there is no audio however, am I right ?

With 2.2Ch built-in speakers, the M8 provides richer, more realistic sounds for an immersive overall experience. The upgraded Adaptive Sound+ adjusts sound based on the type of content and noise levels within a user's environment, delivering refined and tailored audio that adapts in real-time.

I just bought two 4k 27" displays for my work at $269 each and sure the screen size is a little smaller than this but offers the same resolution, brightness, color detail etc. A nearly totally boring me-too product for an insane $700.

Precisely. Unbelievable how so many people on this site actively want a monopoly ?

We don't want a monopoly. We just want people who don't like Apple's stuff to not complain about it when there are competitive options from others. Just buy these monitor instead of demanding Apple to make stuff they want.

Really enjoying the ultra thin bezel with camera on top with this, a good solution. 32" however is just too big.

A few things people seem to forget. Most people I see with a 5k display is running it in scaled mode for 2560x1440. Sure, pictures and text are sharper.

Which are the most important things for me in a monitor.

I don't watch videos on my Macs.

As usual TVs, even supporting HDR, have about 320 nits, 400 is actually not bad. It is not, let's say, very good HDR, but probably with local dimming, etc, can qualify as HDR-compliant.

The studio display should have been $999 or less. Especially given the Mac Studio price. It's pricey, but the lowest-end model is pretty affordable and powerful, and its a great choice for someone who may not be a top-tier user but still wants a decent machine at a decent price to do powerful video, photo and audio editing. An affordable display to go along with it would have been nice. There's no reason Apple can't sell two or three display devices at different price points, especially if they housed them all in a similar body with different features/quality.
Fully agree since the Studio display is basically the same 27" screen from the now discontinued iMac which one could purchase for nearly the same price and that included an entire computer. $999 should be the price, maybe the price will drop once the mini-LED display comes out later this year.

Maybe I'm missing something but having your everyday computer run at "5K" resolution is insanely tiny unless you have the screen right in front of your face. Sure you get more room but are people just magnifying everything else such as their text, menu, fonts, etc? Running a 5K setup with Safari set to 200% magnification just to read seems odd.

macOS is pretty bad on 4K compared to 5K. If you are used to a 5K iMac you'll notice the difference on text and images. immediately.

It seems to me that those who are satisfied with 4K has never seen 5K and 4K side by side with a Mac.

It just goes to show that people who complain that the Studio Display didn't have HDR and a high refresh rate don't really know what the rest of the monitor market is doing. Samsung isn't doing 5K here. They're also not doing HDR or a high refresh rate. Yet people want to compare it to the Studio Display as if Samsung has one-upped Apple? It's such a joke.
’’People’’ are perfectly aware. i could swallow 1600 USD price tag on Apple Studio Display with 120hz and position adjustments. In the form it is now it is just not worth the money for 95% of apple users. 3% will go XRD dispaly and maybe 2% will be happy due to 5k. I have 2010 27 inch display, 5k2k LG and 3600x1440 32 panoramic from Lg. also have 5k imac and have to say that the diffrence is there but its really small. Definitly not worth 1300usd difference

I use a 1440p 27" monitor at work connected to my Mac, and it works a treat for my software development job, which is why I'd be perfectly fine with 32" at 4K.

That's a perfect size for macOS. I would rather have 1440p in a 27" monitor than 4K in a 32" monitor for macOS.

I'm just an enterprise website developer who knows the screen resolutions and PPI values of dozens of devices off by heart, and have access to an entire suite of monitors for automated testing processes.

But yeah, I'm the uninformed one here.
You know numbers. Expirience is a different story. I also use various screens in different resolutions. The point is that however the apple display 5k is nice is not 2000 euro nice.
