How is it easier to get out of android?
It’s quite easy actually. I started off with Apple. Then my iPhone 4 was stolen and I went to android. I switched back to Apple. It wasn’t that hard because I didn’t feel committed to anything. It was all just a bunch of random hardware.

In part I was still using an iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV so maybe that’s why it was easy to leave. On the android side of things I had an android phone and tablet and I used google drive. My photos were on a micro SD card so I didn’t feel as though I was tied into anything.

I'm talking more in general as many are tied to imessage but we use WhatsApp here.

I've managed to switch and use both well so far

So in essence this “locked into iOS” but not android is just hyperbole used to falsely show how Apple “reels” one in and then blocks the exit, but google is open and for the masses.

Nice, I say as long as you have everything within google apps including google drive etc..you can switch ios to android or vice-versa or have both or even go the chrome os, mac os, windows 10 route with google apps........just be competent with your google apps....works out well for me although i have select apps that those specific os's only have and they are not google oriented...

Although I’ve been an iPhone user since the launch of the iPhone 3G, I have decided to make the switch to Android. My decision is mainly based on the factor that the Galaxy S10e better fits my needs. As of now, I don’t have a computer, I only have my iPhone Xs and my iPad Pro. As I wouldn’t need a cmputer able to handle heavy loads, the Galaxy S10e would be a good choice. Other advatages with the S10s is the USB-c port for charging, the option to load two versions of the same app; for instance two versions off WhatsApp for my Norwegian and US number.

Android also, in my opion also gives the user a better and more clean way to sort apps. As I’m a ProtonMail subscriber, having the option to set their app as the naitive apps is also a plus. I don’t have the iOS Mail app installed and clicking a email link is always a pain. The fact that most of my banks have better support for Google Pay rather than Apple Pay has also been a determining factor.

There is no doubt I’ll be missing iMessage, FaceTime and Apple Photos, but I’m sure I can manage. As Lightroom CC to some degree are able to replace Apple Photos. Friends who don’t use Signal or WhatsApp will just have to deal with me going green bubble.

I was in exactly the same position and dilemma, bought an S10e that arrived on Saturday (from a Hong Kong importer to get the Qualcomm 855 version - £500!) and must say, I'm liking it more and more, still have moments of missing something from iOS but they're getting rarer.

I've kept my SE running alongside as I adjust in-case I need anything I haven't transferred over but the last two days have left it at home. The battery was scaring me as it's literally dropping to 99% after about 10 mins off of power, 98% by the time I get to work - but it seems to stabilise and with "medium use" (web browsing, email, social media, film/YouTube/music etc) I'm easily going 24hrs with it, end the evening on around 25-40% which lasts overnight dropping maybe another 5-8%.

The cameras are great (front, back and wide-angle), speakers good, screen great, speed great (for now at least), build quality is solid but not overly heavy. I'm gradually getting used to some of the fiddlier settings and app controls, just about settling on keyboards, email clients and browsers which I never really had to think about on iOS. Loving the ease of file management. And for half the price of an iPhone XS in the UK I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Some random sample images I took yesterday. Colours always bold yet still natural - have a slight warm tint, dynamic range is good, noise smoothing is fairly strong but certainly not excessive for a phone, reasonable depth of field, instant focus. Basically all photos I've taken with this phone seem bold and bright, not cartoonish but processed to look better than the reality, if that's not your thing there are full manual controls too! :)

What do you mean by that, does the phone come differently speced depending on who you buy it from?

I’ll buy the phone when I get my refund from B&H who failed to have it delivered. In the meantime, on iOS when uploading a file from the web you chan choose to upload it from Photos or one of the Cloud Services connected in ‘Files’. Is there a similar thing on Android?

European bought Galaxys run Exynos chips instead of the Qualcomm ones they sell in China and the US. The Qualcomm ones benchmark better, but nothing you'd notice day to day.

As to your question, it's Android. You have access to the file system so can up/download to/from wherever you want, including internal and SD storage. It's easier if anything; no need for a Cloud Services 'Files' workaround.

The US/China get the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 whilst most of the world get Samsung's own Exynos processor - in this case the Exynos is slightly inferior (it's varied between the two over the years), being slower and also having less good battery life, not as efficient. There seems to be some technical issues with the Exynos being reported at the moment that is partly the cause of that. I'm in the UK so had to order from an importer, it was simply a bonus that it was cheaper!*

I haven't set up any of the cloud services yet so not really tried, if I hold on an image and click "Save Image" it immediately saves into my "Downloads" folder where it can be assigned to things or simply deleted. If I click "Share Image" I get all these options...

Note battery life at 76% after 8hrs of working day's intermittent usage, taken off charge around 8:30am, have been testing speakers using bluetooth audio for around half an hour as well as social media, messaging, email etc.

*As Digger10 said - the speed differences between processors are likely to be inconsequential in real-world use.

That’s an issue. Ideally I’d like the Qualcomm chip, but I’d also like the DualSIM-version. I guess you can’t get both.

You could always ask @Jimrod (post #507) the name of his HK based exporter. Sounds like you might save some cash too. The Chinese one, like the international version, will be dual sim I'm pretty sure but haven't checked for definite. Don't take it as gospel without checking.

Apple takes advantage of you in more ways than one, if you stop and really think about it. The (1st) way you can't make an Apple account when you buy your first Apple product without a valid credit card, even if you're not purchasing anything. (2nd) They took away headphone jacks on purpose so you basically have no choice but to buy apple headphones from them. (3rd) is iTunes $0.99 per download for one song! That's about $15 for 1 full album, When you can just go to the Play Store and get the apps (AudioMack) or (Datpiff) or go to certifiedmixtapez.com and get unlimited music for free. (4th) is paying for more storage? With Samsung as with any other phone company all you have to do is purchase an inexpensive micro SD card. With apple you pay hundreds more for more gigabytes of storage. No disrespect to Apple as a company they do make some pretty decent products. But take my word for it, it's all been thoroughly thought out on how to get you and your kids to want more and more Apple like a fiend on herion.

I agree with some of your points but you should recognize that the apps you mentioned for "unlimited free music" are likely not paying royalties to the artists and labels, and are therefore illegal.

This is ridiculous. You don‘t Need „Apple-headphones“. You just need an adapter.
It‘s more or less 10 USD. For a phone that costs more or less 1000.

I think it's a reasonable expectation that a $1000 phone should not require an additional purchase to use standard headphones.

I don't tend to get as hung up on this topic as some, I use Bluetooth a lot (my desktop doesn't even have speakers connected to it, I only use Bluetooth headphones or speakers with it), but I don't get why Apple took the adapter out of the box with the latest generation iPhones.

Because not all people need one?

E.g. my mother never uses headphones. Not sure if my brother does.

I need them, but I actually bought two of them (one for work and one for home).
Should Apple have included two adaptors because some people like me need two?

Including lots of stuff is a giant waste of resources IMO.
Imagine the amount of copper saved over a typical one-year 100 million device run when Apple shortens the power-cable just one inch.

Of course, they pocket the difference as profit, but the principle still stands.
