No matter what you think of Microsoft, Windows, and PCs, it drove a lot of cost out of the equation so almost anyone can afford one. Otherwise, we all would still be using expensive Macs.

Yeah we could afford one and then spend the rest of our money on upgrading and service. Also it is hard for many people to understand that we are not equal in this world. Real pc's in the old times where only affordable for rich people... and nowadays Apple is constructing products for the elite. If Apples marketing is strong and persuaded lot of people :)p) to stand in the line to purchase an iphone in day one or to spend all their money to buy an iphone then these are the real sheep and thats all about marketing and how it works. Its not Apples fault... so you cannot moan for example why BT is not working with other devices cause a rich person uses data plan all the time and cloud services and he could easily send every file by mailing it...

A common phrase from pc service store employes is -> Thank god Microsoft for keeping our job running and Apple for using its pcs to do our job.

ps - sorry for my bad english grammar structure etc... i know it sucks. :p

What can a S3 do that an iPhone 4S can't? Nothing. Unless you want useless widgets and a crash everyday...

change the entire ROM. kind of like you install windows, linux on your pc hardware...you can upgrade, downgrade at will. no need to rely on apples mercy if god forbid you ever want to downgrade ios.
add extra storage
send files (images, media) using bluetooth.
a proper file management system..
etc
etc.

Well at least we seem to be quite a diverse crowd here on an Apple-focused forum; many of the pro-iPhone/anti-GS3 posts are getting a lot of negative post grades.

All I can say is 'crap' - 6 months time Samsung would have abandoned you with no update/upgrade to the next version of Android let alone promote updates to address bugs and security holes. IMHO what I'm excited about is Windows Phone 8 given its Windows NT core which should open up the possibility to more powerful hardware - that is where the excitement will be.

Most of the delays of devices getting the next Android OS update is carrier related. Have a nice day.

Open source is the biggest myth in tech industry (which is still not as mature as car industry)

Your connection to the magical internet to make that post was likely done thanks to Linux (open source) servers.

Looks like it's a real big myth.

Oh, really? He was spot on. Samsung is notoriously late to the upgrade party. My Note (unlocked device) took almost 6 months to get an upgrade. My previously owned SGII (now with my wife) about 4.

How much of that delay was due to the carrier? Do you know?

My guess pretty much non significant as it was an unlocked device and there are plenty of articles to be found on the web regarding the ICS delays of the latest Samsung devices, especially the Note. Samsung themselves announced the ICS upgrade for Q1 of 2011 only to delay it end of March to Q2.

Maybe the needed more time to screw up Touchwiz so much to smear ICS almost to a state of non recognition :p

At the end, it all doesn't matter too much for the customers, if an upgrade delay is due to the manufacturers, the carriers or the price of a barrel of Crude oil. Android upgrades are slow, especially the ICS one.

Diversity is always good. On this forum, it gives a lot of perspective and helps posters get informed and usually unbiased information.

I would agree, but even on the iOS side the updates are almost as spaced out and at time very insignificant. The OS as a whole as remained pretty consistent and stale for the past 6 years, and the latest OS upgrade is really only changing the Maps app, updating Siri, Passbook, and deeper Facebook integration.

The ICS upgrade was a total facelift. Other than that, the minor updates i get pretty regularly on my EVO.

I think you mistook 'a guy selling blackmarket electronics putting a Samsung sign over his door' for a Samsung Store.

ok, if you will be more happier in this way. but at least I would google it (if you don't want to samsung it :D) before being a ignorant "apple guy"
