edit: on second thought, 80's? I think by 92 I had a Discman...so this had to have been earlier

Hear hear. It's also time to relegate these 17th century items to the dust bin of history. Oh wait ...

Yep, and the key is nobody said it was going to be seamless or easy, hence the adapter in the box for NOW. But in the future, we'll look back and laugh at the 3.5mm jack.
Yep, it's got to ther point where i'm sick and tired of wired headphones. Took me like 5 mins to untangle the damn things in my coat pocket as i walked into work. while wireless earbuds i'm planning on getting will be stress free. Wether it's the airpods or bragi dash i'm planning on buying.

Why? The 3.5mm jack seems like an elegant and timeless solution, and nobody has explained why the Lightning Port is better in any way except that it's newer.

The 6s and 6s plus are going to be rare phones that everyone will want to get due having a standard headphone jack.

Don't think so. No one wants to be seen with outdated tech. Things change. You either move with the times or start looking like grandpa.

Lightning is a bit smaller than USB-C, I don't think they will drop it anytime soon.

Lightning is proprietary and Apple makes money on every cord and adapter sold. I'm damn sure they will not drop it anytime soon.

Wireless IS the way forward. Fact.

And nope. Never had a 3D TV, I knew 4K was going to take off and bought one ages ago.

Get over it! Thanks!
But does it have 10bit color matrix for real HDR?! Oh well, you missed it then. /trolololol

4K took off maybe near you. Maybe you watch only 4K movies. TV stations will require another 2-5 years to broadcast so much information. They've barely made it in Full HD (and that at 1080i not 1080p) - at least in my country, where I have fiber-to-home.

Well, that *and* when I can use Bluetooth headphones without having to stop and charge them every few hours.
That too. The bigger headphones don't have that problem, but the bluetooth ear buds are still awful in the regard.

We can rip on Samsung all we want for copying Apple. But hey, at least they're using USB-C instead of stupid Lightning.

Apple has been one of the pioneers of USB-C implementation, yet they don't even want to use it in their mobile devices....It's SUCH a HUGE inconvenience!
Apple sticking with Lightning draws responses like yours. Apple switching iOS devices to USB-C will draw complaints about people needing new dongles, cables and charging docks. Whatever they do, they will be called stupid, aloof and arrogant, which alone should tell you that at least half of such name calling is just people venting their not always rational emotions.

You can either accept that people insulting each other is an inevitable side-effect of human nature or you can try to promote social norms that strongly encourage people to think twice and examine their emotions very carefully before insulting somebody else.

My Jaybird X2, rated at 8 hours, last me all day 95% of the time and in the 5% of days when they don't, they run out of juice late in the evening when I am already home.

I didn't jump off a bridge until my drunken friend did so.
In the headphone jack case here, the bridge isn't very high and there is plenty of water below and nobody is getting hurt in any serious way if at all.

LOL. everyone complained about apple and said they were going to switch to Samsung over this. Then everything exploded. And now this. I guess Apple isn't doomed after all.
The consumers are doomed, just like with other electronics. They just add or remove stuff to create a sense of value so they can ask for more money, in this case add a headset with a DAC that was otherwise embedded in the phone. Less manufacturing cost of the phone, at the same price tag + higher price tag on a pair of headsets.

Apple needs to take design que's from Samsung. I love my iPhone and have used nothing else (except for a time in the Middle East I had to use an Android phone, didn't care for it) but you have to admit the Galaxy 7 and probably the 8 look great. Especially the edge to edge AMOLED screens. Apple better have a sensational phone next year for the 10th Anniversary or else they will be in trouble. The 7 didn't do a thing for me. Just a few tweeks. The biggest thing was water resistance? Come on, that's been going on for overt two years now!

No, you won't get that response from intelligent people who realize that USB-C is the future. You're right that you might get that response from idiots, though.
It's also very clear that Apple doesn't care about people complaining about needing dongles, as that's exactly what they've done with the new MacBook. So that really invalidates your argument. :)

It may be an inconvenience for you but the majority of people don't have pcs or macs the use usbc yet.

While this is true, it's pretty irrelevant. If Apple's going to release an iPhone AND a Mac within ONE month of each other, those devices should dang-well be able to work together out-of-box. Just sayin...

Fine by me. I could give a **** what anyone else thinks - that's their problem.

Well, that *and* when I can use Bluetooth headphones without having to stop and charge them every few hours.

Additionally, I use inexpensive Koss Plug in-ear phones. They sound good, and are $10 a pop. If they break or I lose them, it's absolutely no skin off my nose. It will be a long time before decent bluetooth earphones are that replaceable.

Most generous journalism of 2016: "Samsung often takes design inspiration from Apple".

Made me laugh.

Yah, but taking this past comment of Jobs out of context only works for so long... iPods at the time had really small screens. Of course nobody wants to watch video on those tiny screens. It wasn't until that Apple's mobile screens got significantly larger (since 2007 iPhone release) that this really changed.
Well, it's pretty widely accepted that Jobs knew the iPod would get video playing capability so he said that just to troll/cover up the rumor trails. That way, the Samsung comments can be seen as them acknowledging that's where the future is going, while still saving face (or something).

I use mostly wireless on my 6S , though quite a few times a week I go through pairing issues....it's nice when you can just plug something in and it works .

Really? Apple doesn't care? Why did they reduce the cost of the dongles, if not because they do care how much people complain?

panning to go to huawei mate 9 in couple of days (after apple screwed up with the headphone jack) but this is quite surprising move on samsung side. Just hope the other phone makers will not follow this nonsense.

I've decided to hold on to my 6+ for as long as I can. When I do have to buy a new phone, I probably won't be using it to for much media. I refuse to carry dongles and another device that I have to charge and worry about battery life, radio interference, etc.
