Of course this was coming. No phones will have 3.5mm jacks in 5 years.
Apple once again leads the way in dropping outdated technology to drag us into the future.
Except it isn't really outdated technology.

Well played.Samsung is going downhill since Steve Jobs died.
FYI Motorola did it before Apple.
Just as stupid as Apple. Wow.
usb c then for the next iPhone? because that outdated technology was universal, but lightning port isn't.Of course this was coming. No phones will have 3.5mm jacks in 5 years.

The 6s and 6s plus are going to be rare phones that everyone will want to get due having a standard headphone jack.
Yeah...but that's not the point. Samsung wasn't thinking about dropping it when someone else dropped it. Now that Apple has. You can be damn sure its because Apple did it and people still bought iPhonesApple wasn't the first to drop the 3.5 audio jack.
It won't be the fact that Samsung followed suit that makes it right, it'll be the fact that wired headphones will eventually become as obsolete as the buggy whip.I can't wait to read all the comments about how this makes Apples choice right... LOL, two wrongs make a...
Poor Ehrmantraut. This has been a tough week for you. First, record sales of the new MacBooks, then yesterday revealed the Apple Watch is going to set an all time record this quarter and now Samsung pulls the old headphone jack out after you bashed Apple endlessly for it. You've got to be hurting man. Maybe a visit back to Philly for the holidays will help?
Another phone not worth buying Samsung is just as pathetic as Apple. On the bright side at least they aren't greedy enough to use a proprietary port.
you do know Lenovo were the first to remove it right? What. A. Shocker. They really have no shame.
FYI Motorola did it before Apple.
Apple's overall tragectory, first apparent (and even explicitly stated) with the addition of wireless syncing to iTunes, then iCloud, is to go fully wireless. And now we have further reports that the iPhone 8 may have wireless charging (admittedly after Samsung and others did it first). So possibly within as little as a year, the lightning jack vs. USB-C issue will be moot anyway. At least they're using industry standard USB-C.
I think far fewer people would be complaining about Apple removing the headphone jack if they didn't use a proprietary connector, one that they don't even include on their damn laptops.
At least with the iPhone 7 Apple has promised but hasn't produced as yet, a solid wireless replacement, the AirPods with the intelligent W1 chip. With the "S8" you'll need to use standard Bluetooth. Good luck Samsung.
