That's a feature you only find on iMacs, Apple Displays, or monitors sold at the Apple Store.
On my Lg this function is not present, just as there is no true tone and automatic brightness adjustment.
I agree with you that it is an important feature.
With the LG UltraFine 5k, brightness controls work just as if it’s a native Apple display.

It might seem odd to some, but one of the most important features that I'm waiting to see confirmed is whether it will be possible to adjust screen brightness from a MBP. (One reviewer who received an early demo model said it was not possible, but I'm hopeful that perhaps a software update can enable this capability.) I use that feature with my LG 5k several times per day and I can't imagine needing to go back to fussing with an external remote or fiddly monitor buttons to adjust screen brightness.
If you install the monitor control app (from https://monitorcontrol.app) it will let you control the brightness and such of external monitors using the keyboard. In the default mode, the keyboard brightness keys operate on the monitor where the mouse cursor current resides.

As someone deciding on a monitor thanks for the Interesting discussion.

In Switzerland the price is 1'600 Swiss francs. Samsung is offering a 200 Swiss franc discount for pre-orders. So 1'400 out of the gate (which sadly converts to around $1'600 US dollars anyways).

As has been mentioned a bit in this thread, I found that at 3rd party sellers they are a bit cheaper at around 1'300...but..I also found one retailer offering them at 998 chf. At that point it was no longer a debate between the Samsung and Apple monitor, I purchased the Samsung (pick up is Wednesday 30 August).

At almost equal price the Apple was ahead (base Apple can be found for 1'500 chf). Just because I'll be hooking an apple studio up to it, the speakers seem to get mention, and preference for apple's build/materials/looks. A few of The "extras" on the Samsung were secondary considerations as I'll probably never use portrait mode or watch TV on it.

Either way..guess I'll have plenty of time to figure it out. Anything would have been am improvement over the old 25in Samsung I've been using around 8 years
