The desktop and mobile SB CPUs will be launched at the SAME time.

Although mass production of Sandy Bridge is set for the end of this year, Intel now says that desktop and mobile chips will arrive at roughly the same time, at the start of 2011. Most major computer vendors usually adopt Intel's designs almost immediately, although companies like Apple often take time to optimize their hardware.

I hope new mbp to have 8gb ram as standard and ssd as well(instead of traditional hd).

Of course I expect the superdrive to be there. I love usb, but it is not realistic to expect to find usb ports everywhere, tv-dvd players, car audio, giveaway disks etc. Writing a disc is a good option even nowadays.

i think it's about time there was an official sandy bridge thread made for all of us to discuss these things and to cut down on redundant threads like this.

it worked out well with 'waiting for arrandale'. why not do that again?

the mods really should. The like 20+ threads is getting ridiculous. Of course i am sure it would cause a lot of work for them combining threads.

This happens by time to time. I think MR's policy is not to use stickies because in fact, they require more work from the mods and IIRC threads with +2000 replies cause some server issues so it would be too much work, for nothing. People would still post their own threads as many tend to ignore stickies.

What is the big deal with Sandy Bridge?

I look at the projected specs and don't see what the fuss is about. I don't expect to see much more than an incremental improvement over the existing i5/i7.

Clock for clock performance will be better, current rumor seems to be 10-20%. This would mean that e.g. 2.4GHz Sandy Bridge is as fast as 2.53GHz or 2.66GHz Nehalem/Westmere. The IGP will also be significantly better and Turbo is looking very aggressive.

Most people are fine with current offerings though

ROTFLOL that's the best thing I've heard all day
The MP has 3GB standard and the MBA has 2GB standard, I don't see 8GB would be the choice for MBP just yet.
I'm quite sure those will both double next year

What stickies?
But what about us 13" users who are currently stuck with a C2D?
not that major

any speculation on built-in 3G/4G?

that's one thing i'm really hoping for. doesn't seem to be discussed here very much though..

no i dont think that would work.. i tried to create a "Predictions for the MBP 2011" which was *not official* yet people still created new threads.. unless its made a sticky its hopeless.. the joy people get from creating and reading their own threads is apparently amazing!

What stickies?

With the forum software the MR uses stickies are threads that stay at the top of the thread list regardless of latest post activity.

The "The "I just ordered / bought / got my new MBP" threads, merged" thread in this section is an example of that.

was a joke ;)

i would say instead of combining just create a new thread thats "*UNOFFICIAL*" and sticky it to the top so people actually see it? and they just post recent facts and ofcourse USE MROOGLE!

ohhh the irony :)

a phone, (what phone doesn't) and an ipad. This has been a rumor plenty of times before. Who wants to buy a computer with a contract

Would be convenient if I could share my iPhone's unlimited data plan with another device (something more functional than an iPad).

I've read a few articles suggesting that built in 3G is likely with the next revision of the MacBook line. After all, competitors are doing it.
