Would be convenient if I could share my iPhone's unlimited data plan with another device (something more functional than an iPad).

I've read a few articles suggesting that built in 3G is likely with the next revision of the MacBook line. After all, competitors are doing it.

Competitors offer the option of a built in 3G modem, but that doesn't mean the laptop is in any way subsidized.

If they intend to remove dvd drive in mbp which is such an expensive machine, should I suppose that we 'll see mac mini(much cheaper) without dvd drive as well?

Apple has never taken longer than 10 months to release an update. Guessing 15 months for an update is ignorance. Feb 2011 sounds about right.

Remember the MacBook Air? That was more than 10 months, IIRC. The Arrandale update? Bordering on, or exceeding 10 months, if I can add/subtract correctly..

much cheaper? no... dvd drive doesnt cost a lot. Just space consuming.

It's not "just" space consuming
It's also a _high-end GPU_ consuming and _battery_ consuming :eek::eek:

After Apple will drop the OD, there is a high probability that we will have a high end GPU,
which will take space and power of old GPU plus OD

A simple and plain question: will new mbp have usb2 ports?
I read about lightpeak and other 'innovations' of apple(dvd drive omit-what a revolution!) and I have a fear about it!

Yes. USB is not going anywhere for a really long time.

The better question is if the new MBPs will have MORE USB ports than they did before.

Just curious if this implies that the new MBP's will have the tapering shape of the MBAs?

Also, it would seem like Apple may bundle a light peak optical drive maybe? To distinguish from the MBA if the above is true?

Oh, and any idea if light peak will be supported through expresscard slot? If it were, it would make the decision to get a mbp now a lot easier!

IF and only IF, they get rid of the opt bay (that is more likely as everday pass), they could get an extra usb on the right side cuz it wont affect the structural behavior of the notebook.

Concur with you on the usb. i'll have two 2.0 an no 3.0, apple love to use more advanced tech always so they're going for lightpeak almost sure about that...

If theres someone one, anyone who thinks usb3.0 could be ever slightly better than lightpeak is very wrong.

Usb 3,0 ports cant be used with 2.0 and lightpeak also has the multi-tasking capiability so, imagine tu use a single cord in series to connect all the devices.

As for a little prediction, i would love that apple renew all the important equipment cuz in april the will be on their 35th birthday, i would just love to see all in lightpeak and the led cinema display with more connections like dual mini-dvi or hdmi dvi, etc.

cheers!

USB is backwards compatible.

"Ever" = at any time; "at any time" includes now.
Right now, today, USB3 delivers about 3 Gbit/s.
Right now, today, Lightpeak delivers exactly 0 Gbit/s.
That said, LP should be the long-term solution and I could forgive AAPL for skipping what they (have always) see(n) as an inferior transfer mode.

I look at the projected specs and don't see what the fuss is about. I don't expect to see much more than an incremental improvement over the existing i5/i7.

You are right. People made a big fuss about Santa Rosa and Nehalem but those were just the incremental improvements too. I am waiting for the "Armageddon" name to be used. It should have tons of threads on that chipset for the new Macs someday.

Even the name "Sandy Bridge" sounds like a transitional name to something else.

USB is backwards compatible.

Yes but with low transfer speeds... also it doesn't has the protocol to transport different types of data. lightpeak let you in the same cable transfer image for a external tv, transfer data, and imagine what else.

Thats not a constructive comment, the release date between both techs is lower than 1 year. thats is now.

Blah, blah, blah.

Now _those_ are three of the most accurate predictions of all... :)

Apple makes their money selling computers, phones, iPods, etc.

Intel makes their money selling small incremental chip upgrades that prior to release, are just as hyped up as Apple gear.

I've bought every new PowerBook / MacBook Pro that Apple has created.

Not one single processor stands out as earth shattering.

Take it from one who's spent an obscene amount of money on brand new Apple laptops. They're all good, some being better than others. But Intel has to leave room for improvement and demand for the upcoming models.

The air was a huge exception. But when you take into account the mid-2009 spec bump (not a full update) even the air was only 15 months into getting an update, and that was an anomoly.

Even MacRumors' own buyers guide says the average is 208 days which is approx 7 months. With the last update being in Spring 2010, I can't see them waiting until Fall 2011 to update.

If it's not updated by April (probably will be, imho) then it definitely will be by WWDC in June.
