Hopefully Apple will implement the sapphire displays on a later batch of the iPhone, perhaps by the first of the year or so? Just the first few months of production would have glass displays and it would be a good way for them to tweak things before the iPhone 6 Plus S goes into production.

...and all hell will break loose.

This is what I expect too. Business wise, it won't make sense to stockpile for the 6s this far in advance. And the end output is a transparent rectangle that will look exactly like GG. If Apple liked, it could make the swap and no one would probably notice until they dropped their phone, shattered the rectangle and then learned they would have to pay (what I suspect will be much) more for that part replacement than what has seemed "normal" over the last few years with glass replacements.

That didn't take long. The 6 isn't in the stores yet and the 6S rumors are already coming. :) Apple will not give you all the new features at once, but rather spread out over a few upgrade cycles. This is what keeps people motivated to upgrade.

Stress tests show that the sapphire is more brittle when dropped but sustains better scratch resistance.

the current glass apple uses is fine by me. My 5 is naked from day one and I haven't received any scratches on the screen.

What kind of perfect world do you live in?

I didn't realize how many people were looking forward to sapphire screens. Most will slap a screen protector on it anyway.

How true is that... Most people I know order the screen protector online before getting a smart phone in person. Go figure. Curious, too, about rumors of sapphire being more scratch resistant but potentially more brittle than Corning's glass.

Sapphire is cool and all but the iPhone 6 is awesome enough without it.

Better to leave your 5 exposed than your 6.

Meh, I've never broken or scratched an iPhone screen, and I've owned all the major versions, so unless it's thinner and more clear, or less reflective, I don't really see the advantage unless you're hard on your devices.

The weakest thing of my iPhone 5 is the soft aluminum. it's scratched all over.
I wonder if they will machine is steel body like they do it for the Apple watch. Or for the iPhone 4...
That would be great for me!

Is there any benefit to having Sapphire as the screen?

It is harder, so it will be more scratch resistant, but isn't it supposed to be more brittle?

I'd take a slightly more scratched screen over a shattered one any day.

Next Gen Ipod Touch

If they missed by mere weeks then surely the factory can get the sapphire displays correct in time for the next generation iPod touch.

I think its untrue and if there are going to be sapphire displays on iDevices then it will be in 12 months time or possibly later than that.

Wouldn't sapphire be more brittle and prone to breakage? Are we taking all rumours as fact now?

There was nothing but rumours.

no. they don't just slap in a hunk of sapphire. it's likely a layer among many. if they're doing it for the watch, I'd bet it's only time before we see it on the phone.

iPhone 6 is basically the same phone as the iPhone 4 except bigger and faster.

er, no. all new CPU, gpu, camera, sensor, screen, antennas, Touch ID, and NFC payment chip. but otherwise, sure "the same". doyy...

We could get an iPhone 6S refresh in March with Sapphire... especially if stock piles up of Sapphire displays that Apple needs to get rid of...

They've done 6month idevice cycles in the past...

Just what us indecisive people need. Being told one of the most anticipated upgrades that failed to make it was just delayed and will most probably be out next year. This is why Apple will always get those that don't really need an upgrade, to upgrade.

As for me, I've desired a large screen for years now, so this is just too much of a great opportunity to miss. If that Sapphire display really proves a game-changer, I'll be happy to make another early upgrade.

Bring on the 6+ I say!
