Hopefully Apple will implement the sapphire displays on a later batch of the iPhone, perhaps by the first of the year or so? Just the first few months of production would have glass displays and it would be a good way for them to tweak things before the iPhone 6 Plus S goes into production.

No chance of that. They'd throw out extra sapphire before doing that.

iPhone 3Gs - S for Speed
iPhone 4s - S for Siri
iPhone 5s - S for Security (Touch ID)
iphone 6s - S for Sapphire

Well, Apple has managed to associate the S every time! :D

Wonder what the 7s will be...

Gee, the iPhone 6 isn't even on pre-order (yet) and the rumor mill for the 6S is already well underway. Not wasting any time. :D

I'll be getting the S iteration since I'm still under contract for my 5s. Do you think the sapphire will really be better than the current glass?

Unless it's a very custom sapphire, sapphire is great at protecting against scratches but much easily to break.

Meaning for a watch scratch proof makes the most sense you will rarely take it off your wrist. For a phone ever that will make many falls through its lifetime will not be a good choice for sapphire. So that is a far more realistic reason why it wasn't used rather than anything to do with production yields.

iPhone 6S it is.

So iphone 6 gets the same old gorilla glass 5s has? wow there isn't much of a difference between 5s and 6 besides nfc and size huh.

No, they're basically identical. You won't be able to distinguish them with the naked eye.

I didn't realize how many people were looking forward to sapphire screens. Most will slap a screen protector on it anyway.

Eww, no. Screen protectors will be even worse now, because the edges are rounded...so you will see the edges of a screen protector very clearly.

I am more interested in drop tests...I am a bit scared that the glass curving around the edge means it will be easier to fracture on a drop.

Please, everyone, hold out for the sapphire screen, because it's soooooo important. Maybe I'll actually get some sleep tonight if everyone's waiting for the 6S while I order the 6. Sapphire is so unnecessary.

This is one of the reasons people should consider buying the iPhone 6 using AT&T NEXT -- you can trade up in 12 months for whatever improvements they make next year. As for myself, I've never had a problem with the current screens on any of my iPhones.

Another reason I'm glad I moved to AT&T's NEXT program. Instead of waiting 2 years I'll be in line for the 6S. :D:cool:

iPhone 7s - S for Solar (charging)

It's a good idea, but adding solar charging would probably need a significant redesign of the phone, so Solar is probably out for the 7s.

Meh, I've never broken or scratched an iPhone screen, and I've owned all the major versions, so unless it's thinner and more clear, or less reflective, I don't really see the advantage unless you're hard on your devices.

someone's a mr. perfect.

Its a buzz word. Forum lurkers cling to buzz words. A sapphire display would not change their experience with the device 1 iota...but without it, its an excuse to bash the device, as if it now "lacks" something it was never going to have in the first place.

Like the guy on the first page that says, "Wow no sapphire? I guess its not much different at all is it? Just bigger?"

That's the kind of sheer genius you get here.

I going to ride a cheap Moto G until the next generation of the IPhone 6 so the bugs and all that good stuff gets taken care of before I spend that kind of $$$$.

What are people doing to their phones? I've dropped mine maybe 4 times in 2 years (3/4 times were over carpet) and I'm not exactly the most dextrous person in the world.

I have a hunch that sapphire will replace aluminum as a enclosure material for everything.
