I really take offense to this comment. I have several vary fast, high end vehicles. I have no "middle age complex" and 50 is well in my rear view mirror. Really offensive, prejudiced and crappy attitude on your part.

My, My sometimes You just say the most ignorant things😱 I'm a 76 year old guy who has driven and competed in Hot Rods all his life, and I have NO "Middle Age Complex". I have owned Porsche's. I currently drive a modified Lexus ISF. Do you even know what that is😵?
Simple fact is NVMe SSDs has been shown not work in a cMP. I have an SM951 with AHCI SSD and that works just fine in my cMP, thank you very much.
The Porsche will work just fine for any guy or gal whether he's 25 or 50 or 80.
As you can see. he WASN'T and I certainly am NOT😡 The only thing you invented was stupidity and insensitivity.

Soy, when we do a mistake it's better for everybody to apologize for it, It's also easier to say that you didn't think in depth about something and say a sorry to the people you have offended, mistakes are built in human nature the solution is to recognize them and apologize... a bit. I'm not going to say how old I am but I will say that I sold Apple 2+ parts when they were new.
I have had a variety of fast cars, including a Porsche 928 and a variety if American iron. My current auto was limited to 135 MPH when I bought it but I used my hacking skills to remove that limitation, will go at least 165 now. The first car I bought was an SS396 Chevelle with 325 hp when I was 16. I have continued driving fast cars because I find slow ones boring.

I certainly do like provoking if it makes people THINK out of the box instead of blindly following the blind, and I certainly don't think I'm ever faultless or ever blameless. But one thing I'm not going to do is go around stabbing people in the back, act over sensitive about some belief or hobby, gang up on people or insult them personally. I stick to the subject and if people want a fight, I put them on ignore for my peace of mind and for the moderator's too (people forget there are humans doing a moderation job here and they should go home without all this nonsense on their minds)
I love sports cars as much as anyone else but the metaphor I used is a common one. I am sorry if Flow And Crackson were taken aback by it because they are nice fellows, but the remark wasn't aimed at them (or anyone here) and my recommendation is they should balance their love of fast computers and fast cars with a search for inner peace that cannot be disturbed by an internet comment. And the same goes for someone who is getting suspended in time out mode almost every month.

Social commentary and hurt feelings aside, the "analogy" being attempted here is also utterly ridiculous. A 50 year old person can drive a Porsche as fast as a 76 year old person, or a 26 year old person, or a person of any other age, because the Porsche will go as fast as it will go regardless of the age of the person who is flooring the pedal. 50-year olds are not limited to x4 lane speeds since they are not a PCIE architecture. This is a pedantic and pointless observation, but it demonstrates that you managed to completely fail to make your intended point while also insulting everyone around you. Well played sir.
Why don't you try to contribute positively to the community and offer tactful, constructive criticism where necessary instead of pi$$ing all over everything. It's easy to cling to a bad attitude and an untenable position because doing so requires no self-examination. It takes courage to admit when we have made a mistake.

You should get back to the conversation about whether anyone would see any real world benefit from this 950 Pro Blade before the younger people around here start thinking this part of the forum is just for oversensitive insecure old men who come here to brag to each other about cars that are too fast for them to legally drive and computer upgrades that offer more power and speed than they ever use. I'm not saying that people like that post around here, maybe they do maybe they don't, but if you like the cMP so much it's important not to attach it to such a cringy stereotype. The cMP is a just computer, it shouldn't be seen as a metaphor for the aged trying to seek ways to feel young and new again.

Hey Soy,
What are your thoughts in this topic, at what points do these speeds not make any real world difference?
Compared to dropping some SSDs into the SATA 2 slots on a MacPro 5.1, will I see much difference?

I have 2.5" SSDs in the stock drive bays of my 4,1->5,1 and can tell you that having the SSD is like night and day compared to a traditional mechanical disk drive. Yes it's not as fast as a PCIE-based SSD but for everyday casual use you would not notice much of a difference between a SATA-2 SSD and a PCIE SSD. I've been very pleased.
Once you get into large file work, encoding, conversion, high-res video, etc. you are more likely to notice/appreciate the extra throughput that a PCIE SSD can offer.

It's tough to know how much of a real-world difference these things make.
I have got a SSUBX and Sintech card on order for my boot drive, but basically tryng to decide on what to do for my audio drive (using Pro Tools 10). Might just crack on with a SATA2 SSD and see what happens. Not sure it's worth going down the road of another PCIe just for my audio drive, not sure the SSD will even make much difference in this respect, it seems 7200 drives are pretty good at holding their own in the audio world!
