I'll see your WA storage, and raise you with my 140GB Photos app.
...my WhatsApp uses 8.9gb.
Which is perfectly fine. My iPad does what I need and for me there is no reason to upgrade. Certainly not for Apple AI.I believe you have to have at least an M1 processor on an iPad Air, which is the 5th Generation.
Could have been worse. Like “save 84 GB of storage!” (Considering all family devices 😂)Whoever fixed the title of the article, good job. This is much better than what it was before, the very click-baity "Save 21 GB of storage!!"
Thanks, Tim. This is the clearest piece on the subject that I’ve seen anywhere so far. I still resent Apple making AI opt-out but the information still helps.Sensationalism wasn't the intention - we do try to minimize the length of article titles wherever we can.
Anyhow, point taken. Appended the title with 'on iPhone, iPad, and Mac' to avoid confusion.
Thats ridiculous. Apple need to ship their base models with suitable memory.
Two decades of what? You can still buy PCs with 256GB of storage for the same price of the Mac mini. It's shocking they've got away for so long profiting so grossly off memory options for almost 2 decades.
Something like "Save up to 21GB of storage space by turning off Apple Intelligence" - they were counting turning it off on your phone, iPad, and Mac - but it made it sound like Apple Intelligence took up 21GB, not 7.What was the title before?
...save 21 GB of storage...What was the title before?
You may be right. But, in all fairness, the current SE won’t run AI. We’ll have to see how much storage the SE that’s due in a few months will offer. And, as an aside, my wife’s M1 iPad Air has only 64GB of storage. So this is an issue for her.It is only a matter of time it grows to something like 20GB per devices. Along with 20GB for the OS and some other bits and pieces like cache we are looking at 50 - 60GB of storage gone before any images or songs are put on the iPhone.
Which means the future is 256GB baseline for iPhone. For people may not realise the iPhone SE still starts with 64GB.
For people who missed it, the title used to say “Save up to 21 GB” while ‘justifying’ it by saying this number is for those who own an iPhone, iPad, and MacOS.Sorry MR, but this is one click baity misleading sensationalist title right there.
Funny how MR changes the headline after they got cooked in the comments...
What app do you use?The only one I really care about is the "clean up" in photos, but I have an app that does a much better job of fixing photos than this, so it's all kind of pointless to me. Genmoji is fun but you can't really use them anywhere but Messages.
It's called Retouch. You can do entire sections like the built in clean up, but you can also do lines. It finds the rest of the line and gets rid of it all. It can be touchy but works pretty well. What app do you use?
Personal data isn't used, AI is done on device, private clould or with consent third party AI.GDPR doesn't like it when personal data is used without explicit consent
Trying to think of feature Apple added that required me to turn it on.examples?
How much does it take up? In their support document, Apple originally said 4 GB I believe, but now they say 7 GB.
How to get Apple Intelligence - Apple Support (CA)
Apple Intelligence is the personal intelligence system that helps you communicate, work, and express yourself. It combines generative models with your personal context to deliver intelligence that is most useful and relevant to you, while protecting your privacy.support.apple.com
However, I don't know how much of that is just for installation and how much is the final amount needed after installation.
Oh yes it does.
