I wouldn't work in a place that did this. Sorry, but until i give you reason to ask to search me, you're not going to.

I bet this is in their employee manual where employee has to sign when he/she employs by them. Therefore, they have the right to search anyone prior of leaving shift.

So no security tags on the stock in Apple Stores?

I guess if they work there they'd have more chance to remove any security tags, and they may also walk out of the back door where they don't have sensors.

It's pretty standard practive though, even when I used to work ata supermarket years ago they checked our bags as we left.

if the OP hasn't been exposed to this stuff, then sure it can be surprising.

Throughout the industry, things can be even more strict depending on where you work. If you happened to work on a electronics factory repair line, for example, you'd be expected to leave your mobiles at the door and pass through metal detectors etc, along with pat downs. ... all so you can just come to work :)

I would have thought a company like Apple would be more discrete in their checks away from customer's eyes and the shop floor. However necessary it's not a nice thing to see and should be kept behind closed doors.

this may not happen all the time, it could be that during a recent inventory they were short on a lot of iPhones so then corporate mandated that they will check bags of all employees UFN.

i dont see anything wrong with this.

Reminds me of my first job which was at a supermarket. i opened up early everyday to get all of the early morning deliveries. I had the key to the shop and for the first 2 hours on a morning it was just me and a cleaning lady.

I found out after 4 months the cleaner had been stealing cigarettes and vodka EVERYDAY and hiding them in a bush while i was unloading the vans of stock then collecting them around 8am when her shift finished. Thing is she seemed like a genuinely nice woman too.

I don't see an issue at all with this. Also, as well as protecting Apple it protects the Employees: Shrinkage (i.e. theft) is a normal part of retailing unfortunately and by checking the employees on the way out, they can show that they aren't walking out of the shop with anything they shouldn't be, which avoids suspicion falling on their shoulders

Even though I said that last sentence in my original post to prevent what somehow still inevitably happened, people still said it. People will always post what they think will make them APPEAR smart.

I get it. I know that it's commonplace. I never said it wasn't. I was shocked that Apple does it. I've already come to expect very little from MacRumors.

Spare me your faux rage. You started a thread to get a rise out of people and you did. I think that poster is right, you were Rhianna and got banned and took this name. May I suggest the user name Rebecca Black when you get banned under this name?

Watch it or she'll post this again: :)

Jeez, OP, you came on these forums a few days ago, and you already seem to hate the forums, but from reading your first few posts, I can't see why. You've actually been the one who initiated snarky comments to people in other threads, yet you seem to be complaining about how people react on here?? Huh?

One of the girl geniuses was leaving for the day and as she left, she opened up her purse so this manager-looking guy could look in the bag. Only when he gave the okay she was allowed to close her purse and leave. Seems like they're taking every precaution to prevent thievery, even by checking up on their own employees.

And by making this thread, I fully expect all the "cool" people to post their responses showing how unimpressed they are.

This is pretty common, I wouldn't trust my employees if I owned an expensive electronics store either.

Also, you are the worst disney star of all time. Raven Symone was 1000x better.

While Apple may be an uncommon company, they can still do common things. Preventing merchandise from walking out the back door helps them keep prices...um...low?

And never, ever join a forum with any expectations.

If you want to play a part in the forum community then please at least have the decency to be polite and respectful of other members.

In her defense, a lot of posters respOnses weren't exactly polite and respectful. She was just poInting that out.

I've never worked in retail, so I didn't know that stores did this. I am not shocked at all however. They sell very expensive items that could be fairly easily hidden in ones purse or bag. If apple didn't make sure people weren't stealing from within the company, they could lose a lot of money

I think its fairly common practice but it sure does answer the question "who can you trust?" answer: nobody

I worked at Brookstone in the early 90s and there were no bag checks... and there was some expensive little stuff in there. When we did inventory a lot of stuff came up missing, so I'm guessing they have a policy by now. It was mostly high-school kids working there at the time.

I work as a teacher now, and I could come in on the weekend at night and walk out of here with thousands of dollars worth of macs, as could every teacher or custodian who works here, and no one would know who it was. No one ever has, though.

How are any of the posts she quoted impolite or disrespectful?

Really?

The "cool" people , as you call them, are smarter than you. This is common practice in retail.

lol thats a common practise in allot of retail places.

In other news trolol your user name is Hannah Montana

It's called Bag Check. Hello. I guess you've never worked in retail, Hannah. Lucky you.

This thread is dumb. This happens every day in retail. ;)

No way, so people out there steal stuff from their work?:D
Gotta keep security tight in places like that, you gotta search, follow the rules and keep everything strict to company code.
Imagine all the ipod nanos or iphones one could stuff in a purse or bag and make thousands....

Makes me wonder what the procedure is at Victoria Secret... and whether they have openings for security guards.
