Knowing you may be searched significantly reduces temptation and keeps a honest person honest. Small expensive devices are easy or at least tempting to move out the store. It is what it is and an honest person need not worry.

Apple bag checks are supposed to be done in Back of House, not on the floor, so it's not surprising you didn't see your friends stop on the floor.

Apple also has employees fill out "Technology Cards", which has the serial #s of the devices they bring to work, so they can't try to "upgrade".

Let me re-phrase it then, neither one of them ever had their bags checked at any point while working at those Apple Stores

I've worked in multiple Apple Stores p/t over the past few years. It is documented Apple Retail policy to do bag checks, as well as having Technology Cards and to not exit thru the delivery door - all policies to combat internal shrink . As with any policy, its up to store mgmt to enforce it.

So just because you didnt see it you dont think it happens?
Its easy you dont want them to check your bags you dont have to work at a place that does that. But with the way things are going we will see more and more theft security tightened up everywhere.

That wasn't the manager, it was her boyfriend, and he was making sure she has enough feminine protection with her.. because you know it's that time..

One of the girl geniuses was leaving for the day and as she left, she opened up her purse so this manager-looking guy could look in the bag. Only when he gave the okay she was allowed to close her purse and leave. Seems like they're taking every precaution to prevent thievery, even by checking up on their own employees.

Not really unusual.
I have known some ladies who worked in cosmetics at large department stores and were required to carry clear purses only.
Apple gear being only slightly more expensive than some cosmetics.

I work at a large Retailer, and most of the Loss Prevention efforts go to Internal theft. It is unfortunate that people, even a stores own employees, can't be trusted. As bad as theft is with people who come in to the store, employees have access to so much more. I can walk in to an Apple store and maybe get away with an iPhone case or something, an employee can go in the back and stuff 5 iPods in their purse and walk out. More loss in retail comes from internal theft than external, as hard, and unfortunate as that is to believe.

My sister used to work for a credit union in the financial department and they would only allow their employees to bring clear bags in to the office. No purses or brown bag lunches. Everything had to be in a see-through tote. I guess to prevent things from coming into the office that shouldn't as well as things leaving the office that shouldn't.
