So money is pouring into the USA, already struggling with a worldrecord deficit, and people are still complaining that Apple should manufacture more at home then overseas? This scalping is actually returning some of the money that is spend outside the USA by Apple to manufacture the stuff you all enjoy.

Those people in line are acually helping your country so a little patience benefits you all.

But the problem with our country is we'd rather be possession rich and cash poor.

Was at an Apple store here today and Apple employee said "Resellers" got most of the at&t versions early. They still had a few Verizon ones at around 1:00.

Is there something wrong with scalping? I just wish they allowed people to come back and buy more at the Apple store here, which they won't anymore.

Op is just a crybaby. Wahhhh wahhhh them rich Asians are buying all my iPads wahh waaahhhh!!

I personally think it's capitalism. Want one more? Get there earlier, outwork the Reseller. Kudos to them for busting @$$ & helping the economy.

Doh! After reading this thread i figured out why it seems the Verizon models everywhere are the last to go.

I feel bad for everyone. I don't know what time the Apple store in NJ opened, but i got that like 9:05. As i pulled to the parking lot, a van full of Asians was leaving the mall. Sadly, first thought was who LEAVES the mall at 9 AM. When i walked inside the mall to the Apple store, it was a small line but i guess they already had sold the ipads to people that was in line. They only had Verizon models left. I bought the 32 gig one. I'm not leaving the country anytime soon so no matter to me.

Or simply just sell a few in China. They produce about 80,000 iPad2 a day. They could sell let's say 5000 a day to cool the demand in China.

That's not much, but it will make scalpers itchy.

I think the problem will solve itself. 50 "scalpers" in line with $500 each equals $30,000 in cash. All some evil person has to do it show up early enough to stick a pistol in the face of the person handing out the cash to the people in line. I hope it doesn't happen, but if it does, it will make CNN and the scalpers won't have as many straw buyers willing to risk their lives.

That would never happen in the middle of NYC. Manhattan is pretty safe and cops are always in eyesight near most of the Apple stores.

Scalpers of apple products have been around since the first iphone. it happens. big deal. I won't complain ive bought an extra iphone or two when i get mine. It covers buying my iphone!

Hey i think if they can do it than why not.

Sorry but waiting 6 hours online; etc translate more $$ in my pocket if i just overpay on eBay or put in an online order and wait. Idk what some of you guys who want to go wait for hours do but my time is $$$.

if i waste 6 hours in line i gaurantee i can make more $$ at work than in my $100-$200 savings compared to ebay.

Also apple should have expected this when they didn't release it in China and other countries. This is their fault. Their is NO way for them to stop this unless you want to start taking down passport/licenses, which would be absurd.

Next time wake up early and go on make the line. Or just spend the night there. Geee. I can understand limiting it to 2-3 per person

i wonder if apple did some kind of mail-in rebate for the next ipad launch if that would prevent it.
Register your product with a U.S. mailing address and receive a rebate similar to the iphone contract discount?

dear lord...NOOOO

the profit margin of resold iPads make it to where even if there was one, they could just NOT DO IT and still resell it.

Huh!? Who said anything about only Asians or racial profiling against them? They shouldn't ONLY prevent Asians from buying more than 2, they should prevent ANYBODY from buying so many so they can distribute them in a timely manner to everybody that wants them. And when the scalping is so apparent (as it has been), action should be taken. It has NOTHING to do with race and you're both COMPLETELY missing the point.

Yet your original post clearly points out YOUR stereotyping and profiling (though your probably right but none the less)

Got there around 6:10am at which time there were about 100 people in front of me (90+ of who were Asian). I would have thought the scalping would die down by now but it's as bad as ever. All AT&T versions were sold out within the first 25 people (of whom all were Asian scalpers and all asked for AT&T) so I settled for a 32GB black WiFi. So far it's great but I wish Apple would have done something about this nonsense to make it at least possible to go to the store and get the version you wanted.

EDIT: I should also mention they all had wads of cash in their hand and proceeded to put them in suitcases once out of the store.

Below is the image once I finally got into the store...

1. You don't know for sure they're scalpers yet you imply they are because they're asian.
2. Not everyone has a credit card in this country, hard to believe I know but not everyone does.
3. They tried restrictions in the past only to get it thrown back in their face.

I'm Asian therefore I must be a scalper. I mean seriously, per your logic, if I'm standing in line and decide to pay cash I must be a scalper. If I get it, and put it away to hide it and so that the box doesn't get damaged (all my Apple boxes are in pristine condition) I must be a scalper.

Finally a smart thought.

What is smart about it?

Nobody here has actually come up with a way to deal with scalpers other than either saying or insinuating that Asians should be banned from buying them so others can get them.

I also love how people start these threads with the PURE INTENTION of bashing Asian people as scalpers then stepping back and playing stupid about people calling them out for racist posts.

generalizations are just that..generalizations. and his generalization was right, because alot of those people on line, it wasn't there first time or even second time buying the ipad 2.

1. Yes I did know for sure they were scalpers b/c I saw cash being handed to them AND I saw them putting them in suitcases on their way out.
2. Apple could very well go to pre-orders and make it credit card only at launch to prevent this in the future.
3. When they tried restrictions in the past, people complained but a LOT less than they are now. I will pretty much guarantee you that Apple takes care of this with their next launch whether it be pre-orders online, credit card only, some form of identification, one per customer or some mixture of the above.

I also never said that all Asians were scalpers but 90%+ of the iPad2 scalpers in NYC ARE Asian whether you ant to believe it or not. That's not a generalization nor is it a derogatory statement. It's simply a fact (look at the picture in the OP).

they should be doing CC only, or driver's license. All swipable by the CC reader. limit 2 per day per ID.
