Scalpers @ 14th Street Store this AM (NYC)

And I guarantee you that Apple has taken note during this launch and will make the necessary adjustments for the next one. Anyone who doesn't think that it's been a major problem doesn't know what they're talking about. Next launch will either be CC only or they will require some sort of identification so that they can track who they sell to and limit it to around 2 per person per month. Book it.

Steve Jobs solution to resolve scalping problem.

Get your lazy arse up before the scalpers.

Problem solved.

Leave my people alone.

When resolvable issues prevent loyal customers from buying your product, you take the necessary issues to make sure you rectify them. Jobs will fix this for the next launch. what i don't understand is why Asians? Is it because they are selling back out of US?
Yes. See https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=12264483&#post12264483.

FWIW, I'm Asian myself... so to some of those on the thread, I must be a scalper. I haven't stood in a single iPad 2 line and have my order open w/J&R.

Too I don't know any of these scalper middlemen... Actually, now that I think about it, for those who are crazy enough to line up at a store anyway, you may as well reach out to the scalper middlemen, buy 2 and sell 1 of to scalper middleman. May as well be paid for your effort. :)

In Canada , apple stores require ipad buyers to book an appointment online the night before.

It works, no lines and end users buy them.

Why not use the same method in NY?

God, how I LOVED sitting in my house waiting for the UPS guy to arrive that Saturday AM, when the first iPad was delivered! Honestly, I felt like a kid at Christmas! And I'm 44! I don't get to feel like that much anymore.

And everyone got them at the same time/ day.

If you wanted to trudge it out and tackle the lines ( which some enjoy) you could do that. Friends were made and stories were told on Mac rumors.

I had a blast tracking my iPad on that flight from China, chatting with others that had iPads on the same flight, the Friday night before delivery.

THAT was fun!

PLEASE tell me the 5th iPhone and the NEXT ipad won't be a bastard delivery system like the iPad 2 has been. That will be VERY disappointing.

+1. My thoughts too... That's what many people don't get in here.

I was in line behind a young chinese girl (about 22 or so) and her 60 something sugar daddy, he blatantly told the apple store reps, he was only in line with her so they could each get two, one for her, and three to send back to her Brother in China so he can flip them for a profit.

So, what's wrong with that?

...and I love how quickly any thread even referencing Asians turns into accusations of racial profiling and discrimination.

I think the picture above says it all. We know they're Asians...THEY know they're Asians...What's wrong with telling it like it is?

You said it yourself. We know they're Asian. But just in case we don't, the fact that they are doesn't change the fact that they're scalpers so what difference does it make whether they're black, white, Puerto Rican or Asian. Why does the race of the individual even need mentioning?

Okay I don't like what the scalpers are doing either. I thought about it further and conclude that ethics/fairness isn't synonymous with the free market. This is on Apple ultimately and if they want their products to go to the end user before anyone else's dollar, they need to place parameters for it.

Now maybe with a little charisma, one may be able to just walk up in the long line of the scalpers and just squeeze right in between person 10 or 11 and get the model that they want.

Now if some fights break out, I never said this here!! :D

Wrong, they did that with the iPad 1 launch, and people complained so much that they are not doing it anymore.

Wow that's pretty bad.

Those scalpers are customers of Apple. I'd consider them pretty loyal showing up every day for a handful of iPads

I've seen this first hand too. Though they weren't "Asian", here in Indianapolis, last Friday; Mar 25th, I went in the the Apple store for one more shot at getting mine. Since I tried on launch day and then the entire week after it was launched to get one, going to the Apple store every morning. So Friday I decided it was the last time to try, if I didn't get one, I was just going to order online and wait it out for 5 weeks.

Standing in line at 8AM, there was probably about 80 people or so in line with me. Some people were walking out with 4 - 5 in their arms, the limit was supposed to be 1 - 2 per person. I know it depended on the day when they were selling them. Some days it was 1 per person, another day it was 2 per person limit, but they weren't being very strict with the policy.

On launch day the same thing was happening, people came out with arm fulls of them and they didn't seem to have any friends with them or anything.

That's the kind of thing that is a little annoying to me. Having to stand in line for an entire day to end up getting screwed out of one because some jerk want's to make a quick buck and buys 8 of them in one trip. It's also kind of a pissoff that they set a limit and then they don't enforce it.

I did end up getting the last white 16gb that they had on Friday, which is what I was hoping to get. There's still people lining up every morning though, it kind of sucks, because a lot of those people could have ended up with one on launch day if it wasn't for the people who were buying more than their share.

lol.

yes, apple should restrict ordering to only certain Apple IDs with purchase histories of atleast 5 years that way only "loyal" customers will have a shot while the noobs still get taken for a ride by the scalpers, who earned their right to do so by being the earliest.

Man it's incredible how nuts people are going over an overclocked, anorexic ipad 1 with a photographic memory.

They should do this.... It's what Ferrari and Porsche do on their limited run models.

I am actually in Hong Kong and I am really against any form of grey market.

iPad 2 ain't out yet in HK, but it's supposed to arrive here officially some time in April.

iPhone 4 is bad too. Yes, we have the cheapest iPhone 4 around (HKD4899 = US$640) - but it's 'currently unavailable' since mid October.

http://store.apple.com/hk/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=OTY2ODA2OQ

Just the last few days it was buyable for about 40 Minutes on a few days.

Here is what I think Apple should do:

Once it's released make it available! And if delivery takes 16 weeks - so be it!

Here is a page related to the HK scalpers with daily prices and Apple store opening info (you can translate it with Chrome): http://www.iphone4hongkong.com/

PS: for the cash buyers, limit their purchase to 1 or 2 and have their ID recorded.

I wonder why there was not a single scalper on launch day. At least, I didn't see any.

That was for the Galaxy Tab, or?

I opened this store and I remember the same situation with the iPhone 3GS

Counting out $1200 per person for the first few hours opened.

Fun times

Apple doesn't care about who purchases items, as long as that ez pay stays busy ;)

So, what's wrong with that?
Nothing technically wrong with it, but it sucks that some punk kid is getting his sister to ship him iPads to turn a profit when I saw some seriously heartbroken people who had to go without.

I had enough money for two, but I only wanted one, but if I was aiming to get a second one for the sake of selling it on, or just for the sake of having it, and then saw these people who lined up miss out, I would probably sell them my spare, because it sucks to see someone miss out because of greed.

If the girl and her crotchety old pimp were buying them for family and friends to use, or even lied and said they were, I wouldn't care, but the fact that he blatantly told anyone who cared to listen, that his goal was to have this girl's brother profit from them, just made me disappointed with the human kind.

Its actually under clocked ;)

Funny thing happened when I bought an iPad yesterday morning. The first time I waited in line, they only had whites, so I got one even though I didn't want it, and they just sold me the box and let me activate at home. When I got a black yesterday, I was strongly encouraged to activate/register the unit in the store. I think they may be trying to push people to register with their apple IDs in the store again to track who's buying.

Could just be they were trying to be nice with personal setup though.

So money is pouring into the USA, already struggling with a worldrecord deficit, and people are still complaining that Apple should manufacture more at home then overseas? This scalping is actually returning some of the money that is spend outside the USA by Apple to manufacture the stuff you all enjoy.

Those people in line are acually helping your country so a little patience benefits you all.
