And you think that makes sense? Got it.

As a shareholder, I think it’s just great that they sell an antiquated Air line that competes with nothing. The design was amortized long ago, so it’s got to be a cash cow.

As someone who remembers the philosophy of simplicity Jobs used to preach, the fractured lineup is baffling. Just as it will be if these rumors end up being “not shady.”

When Steve Jobs was still in charge, Apple sold MacBook under the same 3 families it does today. iPod was available in Shuffle, Nano, Touch, and Classic.

You don't seem to understand Jobs' philosophy. It's not about simplicity by limiting consumers to 2 choices. It's about focusing on organizational core competencies and simple intuitive designs. I'd suggest you pick up a book written by Ken Segall or others who have worked closely with Steve Jobs so you can better understand the philosophy.

Imho Apple is doing the right thing, giving buyers a choice, something Apple isn't snt known for.

And sends all your info to Chinese gov. How exciting
Apple sends and stores your info to/at 3rd party servers in China too. If you don't think the Chinese gov't doesn't have access to it you're being naive.

All I want is Touch ID back.. maybe combined with Face ID. I'm not sure how people can say that Face ID works better for them than Touch ID, but for myself, it fails me half the time, especially when I'm outside.. I spend my time getting angry at my phone watching Face ID not recognizing me and asking me for my long password.. and what irritates me the most is when I'm about done entering my password, and all of a sudden, Face ID unlocks my phone..

Face ID works for me 98% of the time. Even when sitting normally in the car with the phone vertically held in place in the holder on A/C vents of the center stack. Once in a while I’ll have to lean forward, but usually even there, during the day, it works great on my phone. Huge fan.

Why are these phones getting so huge???
Because some of us want them. They'll still make tiny phones for those that don't.

The new Xiaomi Mi 8 SE @ $280+....It is a potential Game Changer....It will soon become avail in the States !
But will it run iOS? (I know the answer)..... For a lot of us in the apple ecosystem the phone can be the best in the world but it's DOA because of all we have invested in the es......

Ok we get it you’re doing bigger, but can you do smaller please?
Just make it the same price as the next size up. Goes against your current pricing plan of bigger screen = more expensive but I’m sure people won’t mind, just so long as it’s an option.
Aren't they still going to be making the SE? I know it won't have the latest and greatest but it will be decent. My wife doesn't like the larger phones but is happy with the X.... can still fit in her front pocket but gives a bit more screen real-estate.

It’s not about physical device size, it’s about one-handed usability.

That makes way too much sense. Just like grouped notifications and not being limited to auto arranging your icons to the top left of your screen make too much sense. Oh Apple. ;)
I'm with you on these complaints for sure.

Got ya.... I can use my 7plus one handed easily and I don't have giant hands... maybe larger than some being 74.5" tall but not big by any stretch. with the bottom of the phone resting on my #5 digit (aka little finger) I can uncomfortably stretch my thumb and touch the top corner of the screen which means I can comfortably reach about all but one inch of the top of the screen. To reach the very top of the screen I simply let the phone slide down my hand that inch I need and it's reachable. This method can be used by anyone with any sized hand.... the phone just has to be held in such a way and "moved" in the hand when the need arises to be able to access the entire phone one handed. I do understand this method takes some time to master but can easily be mastered with repetition.

It’s an unnecessary annoyance that also increases the risk for drops. I think it became clear we’d gone to far when pop-sockets became a thing. Screens so big you have to stick something on the back to hold on to the phone. One of the reasons the original iPhone came with a 3.5” screen was because you could easily reach the whole screen with one hand. Of course if you eliminate the bezels like the X did, you could probably get away with a 5” screen and still have one-handed useabilty for most people. Of course the X starts almost a full inch larger than that. If some people want gigantic phones that’s fine. I don’t see why it’s impossible to keep everyone else in mind though. Did the X really need a 5.8” screen if they were planning on launching a 6.5” plus version a year later? It’s absurd when the ‘small’ latest model phone has a larger screen than the older plus modes. For the time being it seems your options are either huge or absolutely-ginormous.

Try holding the phone a little farther away if you're less than about a foot away. Anything under that and it becomes less and less reliable. It's kind of annoying for someone like me who is severely nearsighted as I have to move the phone outside the range I would be able to see things clearly to unlock it and I just have to assume it unlocked.

Except for the feature that disabled faceID of course.

“I also quizzed Federighi about the exact way you "quick disabled" Face ID in tricky scenarios -- like being stopped by police, or being asked by a thief to hand over your device.

"On older phones the sequence was to click 5 times [on the power button], but on newer phones like iPhone 8 and iPhone X, if you grip the side buttons on either side and hold them a little while -- we'll take you to the power down [screen]. But that also has the effect of disabling Face ID," says Federighi. "So, if you were in a case where the thief was asking to hand over your phone -- you can just reach into your pocket, squeeze it, and it will disable Face ID. It will do the same thing on iPhone 8 to disable Touch ID."

That squeeze can be of either volume button plus the power button. This, in my opinion, is an even better solution than the "5 clicks" because it's less obtrusive. When you do this, it defaults back to your passcode.”

Thank you very much for the info. Good to know.

Oled is overrated. The Oled on my Note 8 doesn't seem that much better than my old iPhone 7 Plus. 3D touch another stupid gimmick that nobody uses but some internet whiners.

As an owner of an iPhone X, OLED is definitely not overrated. I was just with a friend who had an iPhone 7, and I noticed the blacks on his phone looked so hazy and bright compared to mine. Looked very old in comparison.

The problem is that the SE is not a flagship device with the latest tech and sits at Apple’s low-end, when what people are asking for is a smaller high-end model.

When released the SE used the internals of the then flagship 6s. If the SE is updated this year with X internals I don't see an issue.

The SE has only been on the market for 2 years. Unless you need to throw money at Apple annually then the SE is a good tradeoff of size and performance. If it's updated every 2 years then those with a preference for a smaller handset should be pretty happy.

I'm hoping due to the success of the SE that the next version is closer to the flagships. But even then there are going to be certain trade-offs due to the smaller dimensions of the SE vs the larger offerings.

And then when Apple 'updated' the original SE a year later they left the same A9 in there. That tells me Apple has decided the SE SoC will likely always be at least a generation behind, which makes sense because of the low-price of the model. Even if they update the SE to X internals in the fall, that would then leave it a generation behind when the X2 launches.

I wouldn't really call it an update. Bumped storage to match the rest of the lineup, probably makes manufacturing easier with less options.

If the next SE again uses the last released flagships internals I think it's fair to say it's a pretty good situation. I doubt the little SE will ever be launch model for new features. Either way I'm just glad Apple has such a capable smaller handset.
