Well, this is not entirely true. I always carry my iPhone in my right inner pocket of my blazer. It is way more comfortable to have the upside facing upwards when pulling it out.

It doesn't affect me really since I am only using BT Bluetooth headphones anyway. Cables are for monkeys.

Well the majority of people keep their phone in the front pocket.

Come on Apple, just use Micro USB and give us consumers a break...

Been using the same dock connector for years... it pre-dates mini USB.

This new iPhone sucks.

It's uglier than the current model.

I'd need adapters just to use the docks I have.

It's even less ergonomic than the current sucky slab, where I have to hold the edges in an uncomfortable manner (3GS my favorite in this department).

The tiny increase of half an inch in height is almost no utility (will help with some movie playback) and actually makes it worse in landscape browsing.

It, apparently, won't have NFC which would have been a nice feature.

They haven't bothered to upgrade the cpu or graphics apparently.

All this has is LTE, which has been a staple on other phones for like two years now.

Thanks Apple for making it as difficult as possible to leave your walled garden. Really appreciate it. Not like I'd like a useable--modern--smartphone.

Apple isn't putting a gun to your head and forcing you to buy it.

Why, oh why, is Apple not improving their hardware in a more meaningful way>>>>>>??????

Despite all the silly talk, iOS is STILL a year or two ahead of Android in the areas you want an OS to count. iOS is dependable, intuitive, snappy, and efficient. It still can be improved...keeping track of and closing apps should be easier, launchers with automatic config/settings should be able to be pinned to the homescreen, a new mechanism to switch between running apps needs to be developed (no more irritating double taps of the home button, switching between apps should be gesture-based), auto-correction is just bad (the whole keyboard needs an update, I want to be able to block people calling, automatic updates of apps.... But with all that, it's still FAR superior to Android.

I want to continue using an Apple iOS phone, but I also want a modern hardware! A modern-sized screen 4.3" min would be appreciated. I want the whole thing to be more comfortable to grip, I'd like a digitizer on the larger screen to use a stylus on occasion, I'd like at least HD resolution, an indicator light that changes color for IM's, email, and voicemail. NFC would be nice (think this will happen despite Anand's analysis). LTE is a good thing, not doubt, and I'm glad that's coming. I don't need a useless new proprietary connector. I want FM radio since the hardware has the functionality baked in...

Just make the best phone you can Apple...

No they aren't. What they're doing is letting HTC and Samsung and Nokia pass them by in hardware. The iPhone used to be the best phone, period. Now it's a compromise, running the best mobile OS, with the best build quality, but using hardware at least a year out of date.

Ladies and Gents,

The photo is a fake. Unless it is an early prototype from like a year ago or more, there is no way that I can believe this is real. There are many people in the world who work in CAD (computer aided drafting) with access to a CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machine that can basically model up whatever they desire on a computer, have it machined and release this kind of crap so that everyone believes this is the latest iPhone.

What gives it away for me is that both the headphone jack and the dock connector show signs that they are 'machined'. It is not a complicated task to make items like these via CNC and even if the bottom of the phone looked like that, it is so primitive!!!

I opened this account on the forum (which I have been reading for years), just to say that....

So how do you think the holes are made? people sitting down with small hand tools to make them? Are you for real?

Not IPhone 5

My friend having large company in China and he saying all IPhone 5 cases are not wide as IPhone 4s. Many factory selling them to foreigners now

why is this concept hard to grasp... try it.

put your phone in your pocket upside down with the speaker facing up(better to hear someone calling too).

pull it out and look at it.. what side is up? Yea... the phone is right side up this way....

you've been flipping it for the past 5 years(if you've had all the iPhones) with the jack on the top and havent realized it.

Headphone jack on the bottom makes sense for all of these reasons plus the cable not danging over the phone when using it with headphones in. Also that puts stress on the headphone connector over time.

I love when people make assumptions like this, and you know what they say about assume. So first understand I don't use the headphone jack for anything at all; I have an iPod classic for my music and podcasts that oddly enough that product never needs flipping either. And if you take it out of your pocket top first, you'll be surprised how much quicker you can get to the phone. So indeed you are incorrect, I haven't been flipping at all, much less five years.

Something else to consider that you haven't. I use a fliptop iPhone cover which incidentally flips off the bottom. So putting it in bottom first allows the top to stay aligned with the cover. Why is that such a difficult concept to understand?

I'm too lazy to read through every comment, so:

Anyone else noticed that on the left side there are less holes than on the right side? Steve Jobs wouldn't have allowed such thing.

There are six extra holes on the one side. My guess is that it's to accommodate the microphone. Still, it isn't congruent. I hope the sound from the speakers is greatly improved. We'll see.

Speaker, singular.
The existing iPhone has only 1 speaker on the bottom and the next one will likely be the same.
The side with the extra holes is likely the speaker and the other side is the microphone... just like on the existing iPhone.

by magsafe like i mean magsafe like
something that connects via magnets to lock it into place super easy for one handed connecting and just plain awesomeness

you use a separate device for music? why

so why do you not like the headphone jack on the bottom if you never use it?

i use headphones with my phone every day and im happy they put it on the bottom so i dont have to flip the phone and the cord doesnt get in the way of the screen when using it now.

I always put it in my pocket with the top up; why in the world are you putting it upside down? So everytime you pull it out to make a call you have to flip it around first? wow. That would get old REAL fast for me.
Most people usually hold the bottom of the phone when they use it, as shown on the photo. Unless you flip it around first, when you put the phone back into your pocket it will be upside down.

You will do no such thing and you know it. There's no way you're going to walk into an Apple store when the iPhone 5 is out and walk out with a 4S

You might be right under other circumstances. However, the home button on my 4 is going bad quickly. The Apple store said they would replace it for $149. If I have to replace it, and I don't want waste my upgrade allowance on the new iPhone, I'll just replace it with a 4S. I should be able to find one relatively cheap after the new iPhone comes out.

And yet their stock prices still climb. Mind bottling, isn't it?

( Blades of Glory reference. )

My concern is that this new phone won't fit any of my docks. Maybe the first few products released with the new connector will come with an adaptor until most everyone has switched just a thought.

I always base my purchasing decisions on stock prices too.

No, you obviously didn't read my post. I never said I purchased products based on stock prices. Hell, I don't even OWN an iPhone. What I was saying, which I thought was made quite clear, was that despite all the negatives about the iPhone which a previous poster listed, the stock prices still seem to steadily climb.

Unless of course you were stating that you buy products based on the stock price, which isn't an intelligent thing to do and you might want to revise your spending habits.
