Hey guys,

I received my SE yesterday and absolutely loving it. I'm having to use my 6S case as my new case is taking longer than expected to arrive. However, one thing I'm in desperate need of is a decent screen protector. I bought one from eBay that claimed was for the SE 2020 but I found the protector was way too small and only really fit the center of the phone - looked a bit ridiculous when applied so I removed it. Reading further, I heard that this is exactly the way it's meant to be due to the curved areas, is this correct?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks and stay safe :)

I never used a screen protector until the 11 Pro because of the scratch problem it supposed to has.

Now that I´m going back to the SE I won't use any protection.

Anyway, for the 11Pro I used this and was pretty good (I put the 8 link so fits your SE):

On Amazon is a lot cheaper.

May I ask why you decided to go from your 11 Pro to SE? I’m debating on doing so.

I always liked the 8´s size, weight and one hand use.

But I wanted portrait mode, so I bought the XR (X and XS out of the options because of eyestrain). XR was too heavy so I went back to the 8.

A year later I bought the 11, and the same, too big and heavy.

Then I went with the 11pro, is better in size, but to be honest, is heavy and thick (worse with a case of course). Eyestrain was a lot better, but LCD is even better for me.

So now the SE is want I wanted 2 years ago, the 8 with portrait mode.
I can only portrait humans, that´s a shame; but I can live with it.

I will miss night mode, but to be honest, I don´t use it much on the day to day use; I tooked amazing night photos the first month, because I searched for situations to test the camera (same with the 0,5 ultra wide). But once the new toy euphoria was gone, I never tooked any ultra wide or night photo again (maybe a few ones, but really not so much).

And the price... I sold my 11 Pro for 95% of what I paid it and got the SE for half of thay money. I don´t want a 1200 dls phone on the pocket anymore.

I think the weight is more annoying than the size... I could accept some plastic to loose weight on an iPhone.

Maybe the rumored 5,4 inch would be a nice spot; small and with the night mode and 2 cameras? Will see, but the weight and the price is important for me know.

I always use screen protectors. Normally Mediadevil crystal clear, but for the SE and my 11 we are using JTech Tempered Glass.

Applying tempered glass screen protectors to the iPhone 6/7/8 screens are a PITA due to the fact that the screen edges on these phones are curved so the screen protectors never adhere and stick properly along the edges.

At least this has been my experience with them and I can imagine it's the same story with the new SE.

I've no issues so far. Both the screen protectors on the 11 and SE are sticking fine.

Nothing will fit correctly until a specific SE product is released. You'll just have to wait like the rest of us.

I saw it mentioned on Reddit that someone got an email from Spigen that a new product is being worked on. Apparently, accessory makers were kind of caught off guard as well.

That's quite strange as the new SE is completely identical to the iPhone 8 in terms of physical dimensions...

So iPhone 8 screen protectors should work no problem, aside from the highly likely chance that the edges won't stick properly.

It seems that the Spigen case doesn’t fit like it should and they are working on a new screen for the SE. I got this email from them.

Wow! that's strange... so the screen is not 100% like the 8?
Either that or Spigen really screwed up. I think the problem is partly due to not taking into full account the outer curve of the edge of the screen.

I am going to request a refund, make use of the 10% discount code, and wait and see how long it takes Spigen to come out with a new protector.

If the Apple stores open up in my area first, I will have Apple apply the Belkin model with their machine.

This has been an issue with tempered glass protectors since the inception of the iPhone 6, and every similar model after that including the 8 and now still with the new SE as it's identical to the 8.

Tempered glass screen protectors do not adhere and stick properly along the edges of these phones due to the curved screens. So what you get is a poorly applied screen protector that ends up looking like crap and one that eventually starts peeling and collecting dust and lint along the edges like no tomorrow.

When I had my Xs Max, the Belkin protector Apple applied was perfect. Maybe I got lucky then. I hate the thought of having to love with a crappy protector much less going naked. I hate scratches on the screen.

This is not good news.

The curve on the screens on the iPhone X/XS/11 Pro phones are much more subtle and less pronounced than the curves on the iPhone 6/7/8/New SE.

That is why you (and countless others) didn't have issues with applying a screen protector on your XS.

I never use it until the 11 pro, so no experience here on glass on the 8.

On the 11 pro the Spigen fits perfect, and is really easy to use with the installation kit.

This shows the true product stack for Spigen.

The physical specifications provided by Apple to accessory makers shows the 8 and SE2 are identical in every dimension. However, the iPhone 8/SE2 display begins to curve downward about 0.11mm earlier than iPhone 7. That's the equivalent of a thick strand of human hair. In general, a manufacturer will label their iPhone 7/8/SE2 products as cross compatible. In this case Spigen might actually produce a smaller glass protector for 8/SE2 if they receive enough complaints.

I don’t think that’s all. I have applied glass screen protectors on several 6s, 8 and 8 Plus phones in the family and not in one case did I see what I see on the new SE with an iPhone 8 screen protector.

That's strange because if you look on Amazon for tempered glass screen protectors and their reviews, you'll see a ton of people complaining about the edges not sticking properly to the screen.

agree totally. I have had 6s, 8, and now SE2. The tempered glass protectors that I used on the other phones aren’t adhering around the edges on the SE2. I’m pretty particular at installing these things. My matte film works fine. It does seem the screen curvature isn’t 100% the same compared to my old iPhone 8 or 6s.

A family member applied a Zagg today and from what I saw, the edges were not lifted up etc. Didn’t see any bubbles. Whether it stays that way is anyone’s guess.

I'm jumping in to follow in case this is updated. I'm not gonna be happy if I can't get a screen protector that fits. :(

I'm worried that cases may not fit exactly the same either - should I be?

I’m going raw too

I don’t think they scratch as easily as X onwards that has more durability but scratches easier

and if it does it does... screen on my huge Xr needs it

So do not buy the Spigen? Man, that looks easy to install. I don't see a review at Amazon from iPhone SE 2020 owners. Almost identical to the machine they use at the Apple Store. Anyone tried the Maxboost brand, supposed to be the thinnest glass screen protector at .2mm 9 (think most at .3mm).
