I ordered a pricy 3D (curved edge, not flat) screen protector from RhinoShield that's on its way.
I had been wondering why their option for the SE was "coming soon" while their iPhone 8 screen protectors were readily available, but I didn't want to wait so I sprung for an iPhone 8 model.

I'm wondering now if I should even try to install it, or just send it right back. If the edge issues above are due to differences between iPhone 7 and 8, and not 8 and SE, that should narrow things down a bit since I trust RhinoShield used correct iPhone 8 dimensions.

Are the screen protectors that you guys are using a little wider than the LCD panel itself? Was wondering if ones that are more or less the same width as the panel would fit without the halo of air around it?

So I own the new SE2 and like others in this thread have attempted to apply 7/8 screen protectors each time has resulted in a pretty big halo effect (I can assure you this is not an issue with me applying it as I have done many iPhones in the past)

The actual physical screens on the new SE2 are more curved so after reaching out to a popular manufacturer/supplier of screen protectors they have now confirmed this to be the case and they are working on the new SE2 tolerances like many other companies will be. Unfortunately they cannot conform any dates, personally I’m unsurehow they will combat this with tempered glass as the ones I have tried so far are totally edge to edge of the lcd display (the new curve on the SE2 seems to start on the actual lcd display and not just the edges off to the side like you find on an iPhone 8 for example). You could look at something like PET film as this may adhere a little better round the new curve but if not it’s just a waiting game.

So do not buy the Spigen? Man, that looks easy to install. I don't see a review at Amazon from iPhone SE 2020 owners. Almost identical to the machine they use at the Apple Store. Anyone tried the Maxboost brand, supposed to be the thinnest glass screen protector at .2mm 9 (think most at .3mm).

I tried the iPhone 8 Maxboost brand. Loved them on earlier phones but the fit on the 2020 SE is not right. I would not hesitate to use it again when they get a product that fits right.

I know this is a little OT, but are the cases fitting well? I'm gonna order a Loopy case, but I want to be sure the fit is gonna be correct.

The cases are fine in my use.

Very sucky about the screen protector. I've owned a ton of iPhone 6/7/8s, and have only experienced a single minor HALO issue due to variances.

The iPhone SE is different.

The screen protectors I used, two different brands, go to the bleeding edge of the display (I'm talking lit pixels not full front), and the HALO is still extremely pronounced.

So accessory makers would have to cut the screen protectors extremely short or liquid options :(.

OR... we have a lottery with screen manufacturers and curved edges. To which the initial batch, or new manufacturer, doesn't look promising.

So....I have not received my SE yet but I ordered a few screen protectors already. No brands at all working?

Any tips on a full covering case? Thanks!

I wound up ordering a pack of 2 and I'm gonna see if I can take a razor knife to it, or get my husband to, at least until I can find some that fit.

I ordered a cheap silicone case from Amazon that I'll use until my Loopy comes. I'm not ordering the Loopy until I know for sure I'm keeping the SE.

I would not order any screen protectors as all manufacturers will have the same issue the phone screen has a different curve and even modifications won’t work as cutting anything away will mean the screen will be exposed. All the screen protectors I have tested and seen online have the halo so avoid anything made for iPhone 6/7/8 and wait for a dedicated SE one. That’s even if tempered glass is possible imo I can’t see it but I will wait and see due to how harsh the halo is and how early the curve starts on the lcd display I think tempered glass will remain to ridged. You should be safe running it without a screen protector to be honest with how scratch resistant the new SE screen is.

In ragards to cases all the iPhone 8 ones I have tested so far work fine using otterbox made for iPhone 8 as we speak.

This is the Spigen tempered glass model. You can see the issue around the edge, which isn’t really noticeable when the screen is on and you are viewing the phone. Going to keep this one on until a better one comes along.

The Belkin screen protector sold exclusively thru Apple for the SE/8/7 has the same problem.

Yeah like I mentioned in a previous post in this thread you are best to try some of the older flexible/film like screen protectors as they may handle the curve a little better. For example if you look at the Apple website you will see the only available one for SE is from Belkin and I think it’s a film type protector rather than a tempered glass. However this is around 25 quid and you would be better saving some money and not using one or just waiting for all the 3rd party manufacturers to catch up. I found a random vid on YouTube of someone using that Belkin one on the new SE and it seemed to apply quite nicely and the halo effect did not seem to be present. Link below if anyone is interested.

What are some other options?

I purchased this full coverage screen protector on Amazon, I was pretty happy with it, does cover more than other screen protectors and comes with alignment guide:

Zagg and Bodyguardz are $5 on att.com right now / can do curbside pickup too. pretty good for big name brands

I purchased this case, really like it, but it’s more on the slim side.

Thank you for posting pictures. With the Manto case does the lip on the case still protect it? Seems like a good fit all around.

The Manto screen protector is on the thicker side, so the lip on the case is only slightly taller than the protector (a few mm). Keeps the screen from touching table when put face down, but probably offers minimal protection during fall.

I attached some pics of screen protector with no case on so you can see thickness.

Are all screen protectors screwed to either have halo effect or be cut off short on the screen?

Don't recall this being a big issue with the Plus phones, or my XR that outlines the screen (doesn't cover bezels since there is so little and its curved there)

granted I only paid $5 to have a screen protector on the thing, and I like the feel of the bodyguardz, but even perfect alignment im seeing vertical halo's.

I haven’t seen one yet, that fit as it should. I don’t have the halo effect but, the edges don’t lay down flat like they should.

'edges don't lay down flat like they should'

do ou mean on the edge of the screen, it looks like the adhesive isn't fully sticking like it is on most of the screen where you don't see such a thing?

will applying a small / safe amount of pressure temporarily get rid of that?

Yes, that is what I mean. Applying pressure to the edges does not do anything.

Gotcha.

that's actually halo effect as I understand it. I always thought 'halo effect' was the rainbow effect, but that's that.

Which brand screen protector you got? guess its all too common. at least it feels like good enough on the side to swipe without catching the edge of the protector with my finger like some do
