I still can't adjust to the "3D touch" name. It's weird telling someone to 3D Touch the screen. Force touch makes so much more sense and doesn't feel weird to say.
I think the word 'force' was not particularly viewed well by Apple lawyers!

Well... I sure hope the screen protector that comes with Otter Box's Defender Series case is compatible with 3D Touch. I bought the iPhone 6 Plus Defender Series case last year when I was planning on ordering an iPhone 6 Plus (but didn't) & am hoping to save money by using it with my 6s Plus...

And what about the built-in screen protector that an OtterBox Defender has? It definitely has some space / gap between the protector and the iPhone screen.

Look what I found. :D

I don't know, but sometimes it does feel like Apple thinks of it's customers as idiots.

Screen protectors are lame because Apple doesn't make one. I only put Apple approved accessories on my iPhone. Let's be honest with each other, we'd all use an Apple screen protector.

Yep. I was thinking about this a while ago, and thought it would be great if apple had a first party sapphire screen protector. Thy don't have the volume to put them on every phone ATM, but they could build mind share, and make a few bucks at the same time if they did this.

I will always maintain it should have been called 3D Force Touch

It's because internally they, IMO, couldn't handle putting technology that was already In its other products into its mothership , so in the 4 months they prepared for the event I believe the decided to call it something different--but Craig f on stage during the event called it force touch that apple app dev who submitted that called it force touch, but with all that being said it's not; force touch on the 6s is definitely dimensional that's why it should be rebranded 3D Force Touch

The iPad Pro doesn't have 3D Touch, but does it have the ability to tap into (see what I did there?) the Peek/Pop features of iOS using the Apple Pencil's pressure sensitivity?

Who even uses screen protectors unironically lol. never had a scratch on my devices.

same here. never had a screen protector. a cheap case merely provides minimal protection, so I wonder what kind of protection can a screen protection provide?

3D doesn't feel weird to me. And 3D touch does not equal force touch, as on the Watch. I think with time (say 1 minute), most will get used to and be fine with 3D touch.

Well plus, we don't tell people to "Multitouch" something. We just say "tap". Technology names (multitouch, 3D Touch, Force Touch) enable different gestures for different devices. That's why Apple has already decided that a "deep" tap will trigger a "peek" and a deeper tap a "pop" gesture. I expect that to be applied throughout the UI for constancy.

So you will simply tell people to "peek" or "pop" something just as you tell them to "tap" and "swipe" today.

I think the concern isn't screen protectors in general but the great glass ones that make the phone feel like you're still using the natural screen... They have little give to push down on. I'm doubting they can be used. The plastic sticker ones won't be a problem I'm sure

For people interested in getting Otterbox's Defender case for the 6s/6s+, I just read on their site (Q&A) that they'll investigate if 3D Touch works (hopefully well) with the built-in screen protector when they get the 6s/6s+ in their hands.

Never used screen protectors. It reduces the sensation too much.

Seriously, I've actually never used them and have never once scratched or marred the screens on any of the iPhones I've owned.

my 6+ is the first phone that I'm using without screen protec

The 6+ is the first phone that I'm using without and so far it's been holding up great. If I'd be out there working in Jurassic Park or something I'd probably put something heavy duty on but for now the regular leather case works and the screen has zero scratches after 10 months or so.

Screen Protectors Will Work With iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Despite New 3D Touch Feature

Phew. I was worried the 3D Touch feature would prevent my screen protectors from protecting the screen.

Oh wait. Perhaps you meant "New 3D Touch Feature Will Work With iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Despite Screen Protectors."

Question: What the hell is the purpose of screen protectors anyway? It doesn't protect from falling damage, the display isn't scratchable anyway because it's solid glass, it looks like hell, and makes you feel like you're on those early plastic-display smartphones. UGH those were horrible.

To the people complaining that it's called "3D Touch":

You would never say "I do a 3D Touch on my phone". You should think about 3D Touch as the name for the technology. And this technology enables two new gestures, which are called "peek" and "poke". So you might say that you can do a "peek touch" and a "poke touch".

Or what sounds even better to say that you can "peek into an email" (light force touch) and if you want to read the full email you can "poke into this email" (strong force touch). That's at least the way I see it.

I like to think that 3D Touch refers to the display technology itself, meaning that you can interact with it in three dimensions: multi touch + force touch. The Apple Watch doesn't have multi-touch, hence it's correct to say it simply supports force touch.

Now, I don't know whether this is the way Apple have thought out the whole thing.

3D Touch sounds like you are touching above the screen, not pushing the screen harder.
