Screen protectors look awful anyway, I've found a flip case does a far better job of protecting the screen, plus make it less likely to smash when you drop it. Because you will drop it.

This video shows why glass screen protectors are so awesome...

(I've started the video at the best bit, i don't know why there is stripper music)

Seems Saviour Glass is no longer in business. All I get is a blank page when I try to go to their website.

Is a screen protector even necessary any more?

I only use a slip case and I've dropped my 6 loads of time and the screen isn't scratched at all, the aluminium case on the other hand has loads of dents.

P.S. iPhone 6 for sale, mint condition.

Screen protectors are just a cash grab, every one of my iPhones has been put in a pocket with keys, screws and other mildly abrasive objects and has lived to see another day scratch free.

Screen protectors are lame because Apple doesn't make one. I only put Apple approved accessories on my iPhone. Let's be honest with each other, we'd all use an Apple screen protector.
It's like admitting their product is flawed and you need additional accessories to make it decent.

basically its like selling you the back shell as an accessory...

3D doesn't feel weird to me. And 3D touch does not equal force touch, as on the Watch. I think with time (say 1 minute), most will get used to and be fine with 3D touch.
whats the difference between force touch and 3d touch?

3d touch is the iOS implementation of force touch, a different marketing name. As a matter of fact Craig Federighi called it Force Touch during the presentation. ;-)

I know people want to believe this.. But in 100% of the cases where a friend of mine makes the 100% scratch free claim, with no screen protection, I can show them hundreds of microscratches on their screens. Since they can't be seen looking straight onto your phone, most people glibly believe they're living at some higher plane than those of us duped buyers of screen protectors. But I assure you I could show you your scratches too. The phone has to be slightly angled left or right, in the sunlight or bright fluorescent light, so you can see the sun's/fluorescent bulb's reflection on your screen.. In that position you will see the scads of microscratches on the surface of your screen.

And that's the first maneuver they use to assess the value of your trade in when you want to trade it in the next year.

The delusion of a 100% scratch free screen over time, when using no screen protector, is an easily provable myth by a person (like myself) self-trained to see the actual surface of the glass.

Now I'll grant you - if in daily use by looking straight onto the glass, you can't EASILY or routinely see these microscratches.. do they then exist - in your experience?? Lol.. Well that's an existential question better left to philosophers..

I wouldn't be surprised if 0.4 and thicker DID work with 3D touch. Might just be apple trying to be fussy.

Question: What the hell is the purpose of screen protectors anyway? It doesn't protect from falling damage, the display isn't scratchable anyway because it's solid glass, it looks like hell, and makes you feel like you're on those early plastic-display smartphones. UGH those were horrible.

you cant tell a good screen protector is on the phone and you absolutelty need one to protect from scratches. they are not intended to help with falls

Good ones are invisible as long as they are carefully put on, i.e., lined up correctly and all dust removed before hand. You should have to really look to see where it is.

If you have a case that covers the phone's face like the one below, you probably don't need one. But if you actually use your phone in the real world and don't want scratches, you should protect the glass.

They are not meant to protect against major impacts that would shatter the glass, just "day to day" rubbing against hard objects. And a good one does not make the screen "feel plastic".

If you think "solid" glass cannot be scratched, you should think again:

Glass is not scratch-proof on it's own, Apple (and others) have been able to make it less prone to scratches, but no glass is 100% scratch resistant.

So, I know Apple wants to sell new hardware, but why couldn't the length of time a keypress is being made also pull up these menus. Force touch is neat, but holding on to the same link for longer period of time should be able to do the same thing.

I'm guessing someone decided Force Touch isn't very politically correct. Taken out of context it can sound a bit Bill Cosby-ish.

Both my 6 and 6+ got scratches on their curved edges, and to a lesser degree on the flat part of the screen. My HTC phones never have.

I'm not saying that HTC is better or Apple should quit screwing around and just use Gorilla Glass like everyone else, but, I absolutely will not use the current generation of iPhones without having a screen protector. They just scratch way too easy.

For reference, my phones are always in cases, and always have my front pocket all to themselves.

No life proof fre or power?
Lifeproof still lists the Fre and Fre Power for the 6S as "Coming Soon" and weirdly lists the Fre as "Coming Soon" for the 6S Plus while they do not offer it at all for the 6 Plus. o_O

I bet that those same screen protector guidelines are applicable to all of the iPhones and were just stated to address the concerns not so much that they were new and specific to the 3D Touch feature.

The Spigen Tempered Glass one I ordered says it's 0.4mm thick, but they say it will work. I'm sure it will, and am not worried. Whatever, if it doesn't then I will take it off and say screw it.

i bought the same screen protector. hoping that it will work.

I just spoke to ZAGG and they are saying that the glass screen protector that is .4mm will work and that they have no plans to make any changes with the design or the technology of their screen protectors for the new iPhones... So there's that.

Apple's design guidelines for iPhone cases say any screen overlay must be electrically conductive, must not exceed 0.3mm in thickness, and must not introduce air gaps between the touchscreen.

This is actually NOT what the design guideline document says. It doesn't say that the screen overlay MUST BE electrically conductive; it says that it MUST NOT BE electrically conductive.

From Section 2.8.1 in the design guideline document:

2.8.1 Overlay

If a case design requires the Apple device's touchscreen to be covered with an overlay, the overlay must not:

* exceed 0.3 mm in thickness
* introduce air gaps between the touchscreen and overlay
* be electrically conductive

I expect that Zagg's current .4mm glass protectors will work fine with 3D Touch. However, I am not inclined to believe that Zagg has actually VERIFIED this. Unless they said that they were able to get early access to the new devices, I think they are just making that statement so that presales will not be impacted. But I also expect that they are prepared to do a recall/replacement with thinner shields if they turn out to be wrong.
