Anyone have a film screen protector on? I've read that it imitates the feel of writing on paper compared to a tempered glass or naked screen.
I have a matte Super Shieldz film screen protector on my 12.9 IPP. It works great; maybe a touch more drag writing with the Apple Pencil than on a naked screen.

Theres no Way these are real notes above no one has the time to be this meticulous. these are either study notes done after the lecture or some kind of Demo notes done by professionals. I use to just drop off my digital voice recorder at the front of the class and listen and re-listen to the lectures.
it is possible to take stunning notes with the iPad Pro and Pencil, and some people can take elegant notes during lectures. Maybe not as complete and artistic during certain information-dense lectures compared to those taken when there is more time, but still quite good.

I just received my new iPad Pro 9.7 and Pencil a week ago, but I have already made some good handwritten notes during an on-line seminar using both OneNote and Notability. While researching this topic before buying the iPad Pro, I ran across some Reddit posts showing amazing handwritten notes by medical students. A student who goes by the handle "erure" on Reddit made these posts:

I think that all of the notes pictured were taken on an iPad Pro with Pencil, many with Notability. (My own notes, of course, are nowhere near as nice as those posted by "erure" on Reddit.)

If you have some free time, poke around in some Reddit threads frequented by medical students. Some of them tend to be compulsive note-takers, trying to absorb all of the material. Their notes are works of art. And they are better, in my opinion, because of the digital format with proper tools.

The difference between handwritten notes on paper and handwritten notes done with Pencil on the iPad Pro is analogous to the difference between text created on a typewriter and that created on a computer word processor.

I want to take existing spreadsheets and be able to annotate on them and also access them on my Mac. What is the best way to do this? Do the spreadsheets need to be made into pdf files? If so, than I'm assuming they will no longer be editable in numbers? What is the best way to do this?

Office now supports this natively. There is a 'draw' tab in office on iOS and in Windows.

Does this mean an excel spreadsheet can be annotated on in the iPad with the pencil and I can later open excel on my Mac and make changes to the .xls file?

Thanks

I'm not the best note taker but here are a few examples from my math class.

Remember, these are real world, on the fly notes I took from my math lecture. The little stars off to the right are me noting something importing in the audio. When I play back the lecture, I can scrub the audio until I get to the part where I wrote the star. I'm still new to having many options (colors, insert pics, audio recordings, etc). I'm sure my note taking will improve as time goes on. For me, hands down, this thing is worth it for the note taking ability alone. I have ADD and being able to relisten to lectures is phenomenal and it auto syncs to my iCloud and box account. I'm planning on removing the notes at the end of the term and putting the, on my external hard drive at home.

I'm using the notability app. I even do my homework on it and then print it out. Now I'll have all my work saved forever! Bwahahaha!!!!!!!

This is an older picture. If I really took the time to write my notes, they'd look like this. This is done on an iPad Air + GoodNotes + Adonis Jot Pro. This would take WAY longer than writing with the Apple Pencil though. I've tried to replicate this handwriting with the Pencil, and it's possible, but again it just takes way too long. I could do this a few years back, but with work piling up, I just need to write legible notes without spending too much time. But this just shows the capability of the software.

wow, i love your penmanship.

I'd like to just mention how awesome the playback of note taking is through notability. It allows me to rewind what the instructor was saying. My 9.7 iPad Pro picks up audio exceptionally well and I sit in the back row of the class. Notability even lets you tune the audio. I wonder if it's possible to use a Bluetooth microphone? In a giant lecture hall, being able to drop off a remote mic near the instructor could be handy.

This may be totally possible, I just haven't looked into it at all.

Ugh. This is what I've been waiting for. I hated those styli - it never ever felt natural and the whole palm guard thing always felt weird. Sadly, replacing my MBP is a little more urgent (as we wait for WWDC) so I may have to wait until the next version of the iPP. But these notes look great!

Still unsure if I prefer the fixed width pen or the other pressure sensitive nib just yet though.

lol, i'm tossing up this 1st world issue right now as well. so far gone with the standard, but switched to the pressure sensitive early this week - find it gives my writing a more fluid feel.

I think he's talking about the two kinds of pens available in Notability - one is constant line width, the other is variable.
Yes, it's a software option. There is only one model of Apple Pencil, and only one type of nib.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet, but when writing notes on my iPad, the screen sort of changes colors. I'm not pressing too hard either. I compared it to pressing on my iPhone 6+ and if I press really hard on my iPhone, the same effect happens.

This concerns me. I am still in my 14 day window, is this normal behavior? Will there be any long term issues from daily note taking? The last thing I want to do is harm this beautiful display. LOL. That being said, I bought the thing for taking notes and doing homework assignments. The screen even feels different on this when compared to my iPhone. It's almost softer...

Thoughts?
