What is it about Notability that, for you, puts it ahead of GoodNotes?

I'd be very interested to know.

I really think its just personal preference. I really enjoy the filing system of goodnotes. My iPP is 100% school use, and its just easier for my to keep everything organied in Notability. Let me get some screen shots real quick.

(picture update) I just really feel that the UI is smoother and easier. I really think its just boiled down to personal preference

You can see the two different folders for "stats". One is my class notes the other are homework assignements. Our assignments are sent to us as PDF and i download them, import them to Noteability and then do the assignment and print them off and hand them in. I did the first week or so of school in goodnotes and then switched over once someone told me about notability. It just stuck
[doublepost=1460626611][/doublepost]I also really enjoy the OSX version of notability for looking at notes on my rMBP while doing homework on the iPP

Nice thread.

If you want your handwritten notes to be accessible from Windows PCs, is OneNote the only way to go, or do any of the other popular note taking apps offer this?

There is Evernote as well.

Not sure what else. Most of the smaller apps don't offer PC compatibility other than export to pdf. Notability has a Mac app, but not sure how full featured it is. Goodnotes has one as well but I believe it's still just a viewer.

I use OneNote as my organizational system, but on the iPad I will often use Goodnotes to take the actual notes because it's a simpler interface that better replicates a piece of paper. I then export that to OneNote. I've learned from years of use that the infinite flexibility of OneNote is both a blessing and a curse - the infinite canvas is great - unless you need to work within a fixed page width. The ability to modify notes on any device is as well, unless you'd rather a set of notes were fixed in time. Sometimes having a pdf from Goodnotes, that you then mark up again in the future is better than modifying the original note directly.

when you say 'accessible' what exactly do you mean? most apps export as PDF.
i cant imagine a 'live' or editable option for a pc as there's no way a pc can do anything with it :p

I mean auto-sync or auto-export in some way to PC, ideally with minimal extra filing effort. Does not necessarily have to be editable. As mentioned by zhenya in previous post, there is value in having your notes fixed in time, as they would be with pen and paper.

However, I find manually exporting pdfs of notes too much of a chore to stick to.

Goodnotes will automatically export your notes as PDF to a variety of cloud services. No interaction needed. I think Notability will do this as well.

I had a tough time choosing which I wanted, and I eventually went with notability because it also has a Mac App so I am able to type notes if need be, or write them like paper on the iPP and be able to edit both at the same time. It is quite helpful when I read and take notes on iPP and then use the Mac when programming to read the notes and also add my own code snippets right into the original note made on iPP.
Being able to "access" something from PC/Mac is a lot different than being able to edit, and interact with said files and notes.

How fully featured is the Notability Mac app? Can you re-organize the content of your notes? Any limitations?

Does Notability not lack handwriting to text conversion ? For me it is a huge downside !

i said 'most', not 'all' ;)

personally for me it's not an issue, but i can see why it's useful. i havent used Notesplus in a few years. i might re-install and try it out again.

You might want to try a handwriting to text keyboard like this one:

http://www.myscript.com/stylus/

I'm using this app and it's been great. It adds a handwriting keyboard that converts your writing to text in real time. It works in a variety of apps too. Plus it's free.

So you use this app as an add on or do you use it individually ?

Unfortunaly, notesplus seems to have been abandoned by the developer. No Apple Pencil support, no Mac app.

Apart from Pencil Support and Mac APP they have been regularly releasing updates do abandoned ? I don't know ? that comes as a shocking information to me !

It installs as a keyboard, so you can "write" and have it converted to text in nearly every app that supports keyboard entry.

That's what I am trying to understand when it installs as keyboard will it add to the iOS keyboard or will it be a seperate keyboard APP ?
