What's to say they won't sell SE alongside an SE2 that also has a more premium price like they sell 6s/7/8/soon X all at once - different generation phones still competent enough to appeal to different markets

If Apple updates the iPhone SE, I don't see them retaining the original SE in their lineup. The SE2 would be the new SE essentially. If they increase the price point, then I also have to assume they will add more capabilities and features, perhaps with an updated display, 3D Touch, etc.

On a sidenote, the iPhone SE and 6S share almost exact internals, which this is also likely the last year for the 6S to be in the iPhone lineup. And I imagine SE will follow suit behind the 6S.

I had a thought for people who say they aren't updating SE because SE product line is geared towards India and budget market

Apple's own actions tell you the iPhone SE is a budget product targeted towards emerging markets.

If the market for 4" smartphones were big enough, Apple would not wait 18+ months to update the SE. It would have been updated with their lineup in September.

Apple won't create a new form factor for a hypothetical SE2, not when they have the economies of scale for the 6, 6s, and 7 form factor. If there were an SE2, I think at best, Apple would take a 4.7" iPhone 7 and de-feature it by removing 3D Touch and DCI-P3. Maybe even revert back to physical home button for marketing purposes.
