Makes sense, since the display is smaller and there is less pixels to push. Still the numbers are definitely impressive.

Walt Mossberg on the iPhone SE...

In my tests, the iPhone SE performed like a champ. For one thing, it’s wicked fast. It shouldn’t be any faster than the larger 6s, because its main and graphics processors are the same. But it feels faster to me, flying through scrolls and swipes. This may just be because I haven’t used a 4-inch phone for awhile, or perhaps because the chips are having to move fewer pixels on the smaller screen.

The rear camera is also excellent. It’s been bumped up to the same great 12-megapixel version on the 6s. And the phone has an array of features introduced since the 5s came out in 2013. These include Apple Pay, 4K video recording, faster LTE and Wi-Fi, and new colors, including Apple’s oft-hyped rose gold, which just looks like pink to me.

Battery life in my trials was very, very good. While I didn’t perform a formal test, the new iPhone SE easily lasted a full 12-hour day for me — and still had 20 percent or more left in the tank. And that was after lots of testing, including streaming video and audio and downloading hundreds of messages.

Wicked fast.

Has there ever been an iPhone that wasn't wicked fast out of the box? They all are, what matters is how fast it is 6 months down the road when it's loaded up with apps, pictures, and other junk. Even the 3G was "wicked fast" when it came out of the box.

Damn, I would feel really bad if I had the iphone 6. Apple needs to stop selling the 6 immediately.

check the prices in Europe. If it's cheap to you ...

These days as hardware catches up to the demands of software, I find that even my father's 5S is still lightning fast and performs admirably to this day! It's all part of why spec sheets don't matter as much as they used to for the general populace, though the SE is light years ahead of the 5S.

No disrespect to anyone, but labeling the SE as a "budget" iPhone is borderline ignorant.

It's almost on par with the flagship 6S that was launched six months ago. Minus a few specs that most people won't care about.

I think we can all agree that the 5c was Apple's official budget iPhone.

Why would we be offended? Ignorant?

You are manipulating the word budget to carry a negative meaning. However it's a neutral word and in respect to the iPhone 6S/6S+ it is the budget model per the definition of the word.

That's not a bad thing, seems like a good phone if you want to save money and/or prefer a smaller phone. If it would have come out 6 months earlier I would have definitely got it over the 6S but now I'm used to and prefer the 4.7" screen.

I think Apple knew that they needed to release the 4" after last September. I'm sure there were quite a few people who got the 6S but might have gotten the SE, had it been available at the same time.

I am really curious how this translate to real-world usage. Will it be superior to 6S in terms of opening apps, loading webpages, smooth animations, game performance, etc? Yeah, I read the same processor is detuned, but since it has much fewer pixels it can do certain things better than 6S

Come on now - if we see an iPhone 3.5" SE model you would see that 3.5" display model destroy the current iPhone SE. This isn't even fair! What's the point of all that jelly with no toast? The screen is just way too small to do anything practical.

If you are moving everything from a previous iPhone, photos are about all that won't be loaded up right after it's out of the box.

lol so I have done nothing practical on my iPhone 5, 4 and 3GS over the last 6 or so years? Right....

I totally agree
I have no idea why they're still selling the 6 and 6+

Too many SKU's right now

Simple: to appeal to those who don't want the SE but don't want to spend the money to get the 6S, either. Widen the number of sweet spots you appeal to and you increase sales.
