I learned my lesson and will never get AirPods without AppleCare+ ever again. Not sure if that speaks against the product itself or myself for supporting it by still buying them lol

1st Gen AirPod had to be replaced during warranty (left one stopped working). At this point they last about 30 minutes

1st Gen AirPod Pro also had to be replaced for cracking noises and I fear the worst now.

i know they are very popular and i enjoy them for the convenience but certainly not for their longevity
Apple offers the replacement for the Gen 1 Airpods Pro. I had mine replaced for free and cracking noises are gone!

it seems to depend on the serial number. The lady on the hotline refused to replace mine, so did the person on the chat. I eventually went to the Apple Store (when it was still open) and he had to talk to the manager to get them replaced (longest 10 minutes sitting on that chair, almost feeling like a criminal of my life). They only replaced them cuz I also bought them at Apple and not at another 3rd party and therefore the 24 months customer protection law of the EU kicked in. I even mentioned the replacement program each time and they were saying mine aren’t eligible.

If it means that Apple has relocated or redesigned the pressure vent in a way that makes it insusceptible to get clogged up over time for people whose anatomy means that it's in contact with the skin of their concha, which degrades ANC performance and SQ over time, it can't come soon enough. I'd be delighted to get a few tweaks to the FR curve as well, improved fit and a much longer battery life.

Going from AP1 and AP2 to APP it was clear that making the stem shorter was worse for call quality.. I really hope they don't make it even worse by eliminating the stem without fixing the need to make call quality better for the APP. Putting more mics into an array can help, but we know that would impact battery life. With a larger can like Bose 700, sony XX4 and the new Airpods Max this can be handled since the batteries (and surface areas) are much larger. We'll see. I like the active AI that comes on the new samsung buds pro that can enable transparency when needed and return to full ANC when not needed.. that would be a solid feature IMHO.

Well galaxy buds pro call quality seems really good with a similar design to what the new air pods pro might be

Current Airpods Pro is pretty much perfect earbuds for me. I can wear it when I work in office (transparency mode), or in lab (NC on), while exercising (doesn't drop out and NC cancel out my internal sound).
I don't know what they can improve from the current version..
They can make you pay twice jk. Maybe they offer additional colors this time, here's hoping for matte black.

Sounds good. Now make them in some other color than white so they do not stand out. I prefer black.
New colors announced

Having each generation, I love the regular AirPods over the Pros. They feel better, I like the longer stem, and I don't have to think about it. Just pop them in and go. No adjustments, no continuous adjustments as I am wearing them.

With Apple no longer delivering earbuds with the iPhone, claiming they are striving for less electronics ending up in the landfill - how is it that AirPods are allowed to be sold without replaceable batteries?

I would love to keep my first generation airpods but the battery life is abysmal. I had to replace the left AirPod battery and they literally just gave me a new one, essentially throwing the old one out. Having AirPods is like paying for a limited subscription to use them. With the AirPod Pros costing $250, divided over 3 years that is $7 a month. I would love the AirPods to be more sustainable and friendly to the environment - I don't even care about the new features, I just want to be able to replace the battery.

Yeah even I feel it is too soon. But the new rumored SE is said to look totally different from the current one.
It’s rumored to have all screen display with Touch ID in the power button. The display size is rumored to be 5.5 to 6.1 inch.

Reliable Analyst Ming Chi Kuo expects a SE plus this year. On the other hand Barclays analysts do not think that a new SE is coming in the foreseeable future.
Yeah based on the rumors I don't think the SE3 is meant to replace the SE2, more like complement it and replace the XR in the lineup as a larger but inexpensive option. I'm thinking XR chassis (single camera), -FaceID, +TouchID power button and either A13 or A14. Time will tell.

public service announcement:

Airpods are throw away products. After 12 months the battery capacity is so low, that you can barely have an hour long phone conversation. So its more like a 20$ per month product. A lifetime long. whereas my Earpods are working indefinitely and cost about 15$

Just another data point. I still use my AP1, get about 90+ minutes on them for phone calls,, AP2, still get about 2 hours on them, and APP, still get about 2 hours on them. all for calls, and pretty much all of them were used ~4 hours per day during M-F, sometimes up to 8 hours per day. For the AP1, introduced in Dec 2016, that's not bad. for the AP2 introduced a year later I think, so nearly two years of use that is pretty great.

But yes, they are really not serviceable at all I can't imagine being able to have a third party replace the batteries. The teardowns that ifixit dig looked pretty destructive overall. It's probably POSSIBLE, but not realistic.

Hope they add Tile like capabilities, or some way to better integrate to an Apple ID. Can’t express how many times my Airpods have gone missing, and Find My never picks up its last location when I really need it most.

I cannot disprove your experience, but I regard it as highly highly unlikely.

You can only wonder why Apple does not show us the battery capacity like they do on the iPhone (only after they were hit with a class action lawsuit).

I could prove it, but won’t waste the time on it. I’m not in the market of trying to sell used AP1 or AP2, but as a heavy technology user of pretty much everything I can only report what I personally experience through 1000‘s of hours of usage experience.

edit:.. okay, I’m going to track it over the next couple days.. I’ve got easily 4-5 hours of calls lined up for tomorrow so I should be able to do I full AP1 and AP2 continuous tracking of their battery life. I’ll just have to work to break the muscle memory habit of putting them back in the case during bio breaks during only 1 hour calls.. a post it on my monitor should handle that. ;-)

Pretty likely that they WILL add the U1 UWB chip to these things going forward.. first itroduced I guess on the APM, but it would seem if they are trying to crrate a location ecosystem around their products they should put that in at least the top level versions of them.

Yes, they WANT you to buy the AirPods every year or two because they are unusable. This is by design.
My EarPods have no degradation at all - by design.

And the EarPods are better integrated into the system. No strange quality switching when someone calls in during listening to music.

For me, not having to fiddle with any wires is worth more than every other drawback combined.

I cannot use the first generation AirPod Pro's as I am one of the unfortunate individuals allergic to the silicone they use. I have passed them on to others and every person has had the same irritation or reaction. I have gone back to my original all plastic AirPods which are good enough.
Comply makes some foam tips. Haven’t tried them yet but have used them on previous headphones and they’re really good.

lol. I don’t think the stem will be getting longer. But I do
believe that the AirPods Pro are more than good enough for phone calls. In fact they have one of the best mics compared to it’s competitors.
I'm not saying they are worse than competitors, they might very well be the best there is. But try making a phone call on the subway, or the bus, or just in a mall - it picks up SO much background noise that people have a hard time hearing what you say :/

I’ve got the Comply version 2 and they work great. The original version had a tendency of the tip to come off the APP too easily, but they replaced mine with the newer version and haven’t had any issues. The added benefit is that they are slightly more isolating, compared to the standard Apple tips, which helps with sound quality.
