Wow, good Apple for finally meeting the minimum industry standard. Way to lower the bar,
My productivity will be amazing when Im able to run 3000 apps in a grid of 32x32 pixel windows.
Amazing.
I'd rather have 4gb in the iPad since it does more desktop based browsing and more productive activities than a small phone. 3gb at the least. 2gb is fine for a phone, no less.
More RAM is never a bad thing. Since the Macs all have 8gb as a base now.
If this is true I want to upgrade my Air! Damn you Apple!!
I've decided I won't be upgrading my iPad Air this time around. I think the Air is the best state the iPad has been in and I'm not gonna fork out for a new one just for TouchID (although it'll be a welcome and logical addition).
That being said, I am an iPhone 5s owner and will be upgrading to the iPhone 6 purely because it's probably my most used device and because...ooh, shiny! I'll also be first in line for an iWatch!
Don't forget the complimentary occular implants which enable your to zoom in on anything you wish in order to get a much larger FoV. No increased visual processing power unless you order it, though.

Do you have an even rudimentary understanding of how memory utilization actually works? Or at least how much is realistically necessary for a basic OS like iOS? Do you think the original iPhone would have performed much better had it had 2 GB of RAM instead of 128 MB? Just curious.
Explain to me how the second sentence logically follows or is in any way related the first...?

It HAS to go to 2 GB...being unable to switch between multiple apps (especially anything in iWork) rapidly, or having Messages freeze up while it repopulates the message list drives me nuts. 1GB on my current Air is biggest complaint of any Apple product I've ever owned.
Yeah, I see what you mean. Kind of like a "who pissed in your cheerios this morning?" moment.
Fixed that for you...as it's much easyer to explain to customers as it was with siri (which, after all, ran fine on previous models before apple bought the app and pulled it from the store....)While split-screen multitasking is most likely not to be available on existing devices, it may run better on Apple's upcoming iPad Air, which is also expected to gain a new A8 processor.
And that's all a consumer cares about, how much money a company makes. I don't mind sacrificing usability as long as it benefits Apple.![]()
They have iPads and iPhones too. Point?
All iPads and iPhones do run with compromise. Safari is horrible with the page reloads, it may be something small to most people but its a huge for me. Horrible experience I would like to see gone or less frequent.
Everything in life is a compromise. Whether it so negatively effects you or not is another issue. Waiting for a fraction of a second, or 1, 2, or 3 seconds may be horrible to you, but not even noticeable to someone else.
I should have stated it differently - not without compromise, but compromising in such a way as to minimize negative effects (which isn't just page re-loads, but includes battery life, cost, weight, etc.).
For those people of a certain age, who grew up before there were computers and lived through the years of dial-up modem service, expectations can be considerably different than those who have only known fast web connections.
Well, I'm 63, grew up with out computers and fully remember dial-up speeds and the page reloads really tick me off. I'll be honest, the only reason the iPad Air won out over the Surface Pro was that MS didn't put a SIM card in the Pro. If the new iPad Air doesn't have a minimum of 2 gigs of RAM this go round I won't be upgrading. I will be buying a new Surface Pro.
I love the form factor of the Air. But over the last year, even with all the traveling I do, I have decided that it's better to deal with the lack of sim periodically than the daily, constant page reloads. Multiple windows and real multi-tasking is just the icing on the cake.
No bump in RAM, no sale to me. And without an iPad I have no reason to even consider an iPhone when so many alternatives exist. I'll just write off all my app purchases and leave the ecosystem. Sucks that I can't take my TV shows with me but that's a lesson learned. I decided last year to stop buying content from ITunes for just that reason. I thought the iPad Air should have had 2 gigs of ram. The fact that it didn't raised a warning flag for me. Apples hardware decisions are making me rather unhappy. I'm giving them one last chance.
Point of my rant, age is not necessarily a factor in determining patience or knowledge when it comes to tech. Remember, my generation invented a lot of what is used today (or at least the predessors).
Sorry, rant off ☺️
It seems like you should ditch all Apple products and jump headfirst into the rainbow that is all things Microsoft. Apple clearly has dropped the ball and is producing products not using the highest spec (on paper) parts the way that most leading tech companies do now.
And if you really want to reach the pot of gold at the end of that rainbow, definitely try Android, in tablet or smartphone form.
I have an android tablet. I have a Nokia Lumnia 920, a PC, an iPad and an older a windows tablet. I'm quite familiar with each ecosystem. I happen to really like the iPad form factor (this is actually my 4th one, I've upgraded every year so far).
I most certainly will dump all Apple products if they don't put 2 gigs of RAM in the next iPad. Specs most certainly do mean something. And not just on paper. When I can't have 2 tabs open without a reload I have to reconsider my preference for the form factor over the daily issues of the OS needs.
And Android is not the only option. I specifically mentioned a Surface Pro and most probably will 'jump into to rainbow of all things Microsoft'. At least I know I will be able to open a website, navigate to another to research something and be able to look at the first one without a reload. Really helps when filling out forms, etc.
Exactly.
Although I think (and hope!) they're going to put 2GB on all new models it would be possible to have 2GB on the Air, 1 on the Mini and 1 on iPhone 6
Here is the thing... Apple does not consider iPad mini as lower end of iPad...
Sucks that I can't take my TV shows with me but that's a lesson learned. I decided last year to stop buying content from ITunes for just that reason.
I've never bought anything from iTunes (well, except for apps) for exactly this reason. I thoroughly despise things that aren't cross-platform.
