Democratic governors in the US didn’t “weaponize” Covid-19 to oppress people 🙄 That’s a really twisted view of the science-based public health measures that are necessary to try to keep people alive

They did it to reduce the spread, just like masks. The foolish Republican governors who are being overrun with Covid now are why we have nearly 100,000 new cases a day.

It’s Trump, a Republican, and his fellow travelers who have weaponized Covid-19, and the wearing of masks, specifically.

You should expand your news sources and maybe read some US-based reporting.

So in your view we should have indefinite national lockdowns? Lock every thing done forever maybe? Do you work for a living?

The WHO estimated that 1/10 people globally had contracted it.
That can only ever be proven by a regression study that’ll never actually happen in full... the official data is 46.6 million confirmed cases currently... of which the US accounts for nearly 10... and 1.2 million deaths. Which also factors out to... 2.5%.

Considering they started this epidemic, and then lied about it, they win nothing.
They didn't lie about it. They reported immediately, both to WHO and to Mr. Orange. Mr. Orange chose to play it down, though, and that's it. He didn't understand that the economy will not recover before corona is brought to its knees, like in China. China wins, hands down.

+1 in the UK and on the Apple upgrade, and curious what will happen. It appears that people who ordered next-gen consoles can collect from store on 10th Nov under the guise of “click and collect”, so I think Apple can too if they choose. We will see.

But to be fair, China is playing by a different set of rules here.

An executive for China National Biotec is is reporting that 350,000 people have been given an phase 2 vaccine outside trials. It's also been reported that China's military, medical workers, and employees of state owned companies who anticipate traveling abroad have received stage 2 vaccines as well.

Sinovac has reported that approx. 90% of it's employees have taken the vaccine.

Right now, no vaccine is available in the US, or the EU outside testing due to more stringent protocols. In addition, a vaccine that has only passed stage 2 trials can't be given to at risk populations. The ones most likely to die from the virus.

It is anticipated that by the end of the year, the US/EU will have a vaccine that has been through stage 3 trials that can be safely given to everyone. Even then, many people are wary about getting it. I will do what my doctor tells me, I have multiple pre existing conditions and work in a job that puts me in greater contact with the population.

But if people are reluctant to take a vaccine that has been through stage 3 trials, how are you going to get them to take one that has only been through stage 2 trials?

In the end, it's not about "winners" and "losers". It's about humanity. Death, suffering, turmoil. I know that when one of the vaccine candidates makes it thought stage 3 trials, the US/EU won't withhold from the rest of the world.

So even if China currently is distributing a phase 2 vaccine, those people will have access to the phase 3 vaccine being currently developed.

Winning isn't everything....

Really can't decide whether to laugh or cry at the physically painful idiocy.
Not just plain idiocy -something one could feel sorry for-, but also parroting extremely dangerously misleading misinformation to others - which should be punished severely -.

Anyone who thinks lockdowns are a good idea has never stayed up at night from the stress of wondering if you'll have money next week.

Anyone who thinks lock downs are a bad idea probably has never worked as a healthcare frontline worker and dealt with the stress and burnout and eventual PTSD of seeing large numbers of people suffer and die.

Funny how the coronavirus was weaponized and used by left-wing Democrat governors to oppress people in the United States, but the UK national government run by a right-wing government has shown it can play the same game. Reminds me of when George Bush had a right-wing war on Iraq and Tony Blair sold his as a left-wing one...

These shutdowns are for nothing more than oppressing the populace and politicians showing you just how much power they have over you (the prole). Your “side” isn’t winning, you’re just getting the oppression from people you like
What you call left wing Democrats are by most people’s standards still fairly right wing.
I would argue that they are further to right than our current right leaning government here in the U.K.

Uh... no. Your math is off by many orders of magnitude.

9,280,000 infections. 231,000 reported deaths. Giving you the benefit of the doubt that all unresolved cases are survivals (because the actual correct math is resolved cases: survived against resolved cases: deaths) That's 231000 / 9280000 = 0.025. In order to make that a percentage, you need to multiply by 100... 2.5%.

And no, that's not how death certificates are filled out. They're all legitimate. And uhmm... heart failure is one of the impacts of COVID.
You need to research how this is done. The IFR, the Infection fatality rate, is the measure used by epidemiologists and CDC and every major health organization in the world to determine fatalities due to a virus.

No one uses the method you propose( the case fatality rate) because it’s Dependent on the number of people who have been tested not the number of people who actually have been infected. Everyone knows there are many more people who have been infected by the virus then the number of people who have been tested for it, so it’s silly to use that measurement.

This is why the CDC and every major health organization determines the seasonal flu, Ebola, etc,. fatality rate by testing the blood supply for the presence of antigens.

Finally, you’re dead wrong about the reporting of COVId deaths. Here’s the link to the head of US efforts i. This regard, Dr Birx https://www.realclearpolitics.com/v...e_are_counting_that_as_a_covid-19_death.html#!

If you believe that, I have a bridge to sell you. China lied, and people died. Very simple. They did not immediately tell The WH O and when they did they told them the virus is not easily transmissible between humans.

That would require them to think of or care about other people, which they seem congenitally incapable of doing.

2020-01-30: Trump: We only have five people. Hopefully, everything’s going to be great. They have somewhat of a problem, but hopefully, it’s all going to be great. But we’re working with China, just so you know, and other countries very, very closely. So it doesn’t get out of hand. But it’s, you know, it’s something that we have to be very, very careful with, right? We have to be very careful.

2020-02-04: We are coordinating with the Chinese government and working closely together on the coronavirus outbreak in China. My administration will take all necessary steps to safeguard our citizens from this threat.

2020-02-10: Trump: Looks like by April, you know, in theory, when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away. I hope that’s true. But we’re doing great in our country. China, I spoke with President Xi, and they’re working very, very hard. And I think it’s going to all work out fine.

2020-02-28: Trump: Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia.’ That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over. And this is their new hoax.

2020-03-05: Trump: Gallup just gave us the highest rating ever for the way we are handling the CoronaVirus situation. The April 2009-10 Swine Flu, where nearly 13,000 people died in the U.S., was poorly handled

2020-03-10: Trump: This was unexpected. And it hit the world. And we’re prepared, and we’re doing a great job with it. And it will go away. Just stay calm. It will go away.

2020-03-25: Trump: Nobody would ever believe a thing like that’s possible. Nobody could have ever seen something like this coming, but now we know, and we know it can happen and happen again.

You see the progression: only 1 people, only 5 people, only 12 people,… now 9,529,006 people, of which 236,814 are DEAD. It's called exponential growth, stuff Trump never learned at Wharton or elsewhere, and frankly is too stupid to grasp.

Yeah... no.

The death-to-case mortality rate is against people that have any disease. Not those that had a test. Cancer wouldn’t be a problem if everyone that ever had a biopsy ever in their lives counted in the mortality rate. Your political BS answer to soften the blow of how poorly this administration has done is a garbage number.

Man... that number seems to match mine. Must be an error, I guess.

Then, since you’re concerned with the death rate instead of the mortality rate... we currently sit at 299,028 excess deaths this year over projected levels from that death rate. We have a reported 231,000 Covid deaths. Totally fake disease I guess, total coincidence.

Sorry, not sorry.

Everything seems to devolve, one way or another into Orange Man Bad, It's Trump's fault, or the fault of the politicians I don't like, or whatever.

It's a virus. To think humans have that much control over it is hubris. A lot of people have gotten sick and or died. The fact that so few in relationship to world population have died is sort of a miracle.

In the US, all that is Covid seems to be laid at Trump's feet.

Humans can influence the result.

Look at countries like China, Taiwan, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, New Zealand and many others.

Even my own country, Norway, which has had a huge increase in new cases in October, there were only 5 deaths during last month, bringing the total up to 282. And Norway has had virtually zero use of masks until about 2 weeks ago.

Had Trump and the US done the job properly in February and March, so many lives could have been saved.
