Which charger though? Isn't that the MacBook charger you got? If so, that would be much more capacity than a charger they would ship with an iPhone.

What is the max wattage an XR can draw?

I have the black Anker fast USB-C charger with a C to lighting cable. It was around $20.

No big deal, if it really means that much to ya, ya would of bought a cable and USB-C plug pack by now surely.
The only news re USB-C & iPhone I want to hear is the lightening replaced by USB-C, that is also WAY over due. This is the Apple of the modern day though, YEARS behind the masses for the most part. They will come out with one small item or component or function that is ahead of its time, but they are so few and FAR between. So many phone are FAR beyond iPhone tech now. I still love their design and IOS, but its frustrating, this intentional holding back.

It AMAZES me that in 2019 people are still crying about cables. Who's not using wireless charging? Why? My car even has a wireless charger for crying out loud. I couldn't even tell you the last time I physically connected my phone to my Mac. The day they completely remove the Charging/Data port from phones people's heads are going to explode. That day is sooner than you think. You can even get a small wireless charger to carry around for travel! I'll never understand peoples instance on marching backward.

I use wireless charging everywhere, except when I travel. Having a single cord I can use for my phone, Bluetooth headset, external battery, etc, makes it easier.

I don't see the big deal. I have multiple USB-C to Lightning cables, and use them with various USB-C chargers, when not charging wirelessly. My XS Max seems to be able to draw 30 w using the PD standard, so the 18 w charger is still insufficient.

This much has been clear to me for over a year:
DO NOT BUY ANY NEW PHONE THAT DOES NOT COME WITH AN USB-C PORT.

So iPhone 2019 is a non-starter for me.

Given the **** fit everyone threw when they moved from the "iPod" connector to Lightning, I get why they won't, but it sure would be nice if they could move to USB-C to force accessories into the future. My iPad and Switch use it, it would be nice to only need one cable on the road to charge whatever needs juice at the time.

Lightning cables last a long time for me. For my wife, not so much.

It drives me up to wall. She has a habit of pulling the cable by the cord (not the plug) to unplug it. Finally, once she got an XR, I just got her a wireless charger. Problem solved.

BTW, for me, tempered glass screen protectors last a year or so. For her, tempered glass screen protectors last a few months.

Same for me on the screen protectors. I go through 5 or 6 per year. :D

So if a website has mixed record of getting rumors correct, why continue to use them? That just means they throw whatever on the wall and hope it sticks...

So how will I backup the phone to a Mac with USB-A ports (ie 2014 MBP)?

You'll use any USB-A to Lightning cable that has been available everywhere since the iPhone 5 was released in 2012...

Yeah... you might have to buy another cable. No big deal.

If Apple includes a USB-A cable... the USB-C people will complain.

It's better to just buy the exact cables you need and move on with life.

I've already spend as much time typing this comment as it would take you going to the drug store to buy another cable... :D

Sorry. I don’t give a sh*t about this whole cable/connector thing. I’m still disappointed that Apple couldn’t even get wireless charging working.

Nothing wrong with the cables if you treat them correctly.I've never had one break on me in 9 years of using them.I am still using a Lightning cable that came with my iPhone 5 in 2012.Most of the problems with the cables are down to the users misuse, like pulling them by the cord to unplug them from the phone rather than the plug at the end.

Honestly, the cables that remain at one place (like the one at my night stand), do not fray. But the cables really can't seem to take any bending at the edges whatsoever. So a cable that travels in the bag, and gets bent, because I sometimes use my phone while it's plugged in, will fray sooner or later. I don't have that problem with non-Apple cables. You are certainly in the minority if your iPhone cables do not break down. I don't think asking for sturdier cables is unreasonable.

That doesn’t seem very productive or worthwhile, but in all fairness neither does all the hand-wringing about USB-C vs. Lightning and chargers.

Only three years after they removed the USB Type A ports from their Macbook line up..
How many people still regularly connect their iPhone to their Mac? The App Store was removed from iTunes two years ago. iTunes Match, Apple Music, all other streaming services massively reduced the need to sync media to the iPhone. Syncing smaller stuff works over WiFi just fine. I also only backup to iCloud these days.

If I wouldn't be using my Mac as a charging point, I'd have little reason to ever connect my iPhone to it.

Oh ok. I should have known lol.

We should expect as much... Apple grudgingly added wireless charging that works with a standard that is not theirs. That's not usually their style, but they didn't really have a choice given how widespread Qi is.

At least we have no shortage of third party devices that replace AirPower no problem.

Point taken, but I was (trying to) address the cancellation of the Apple charging pad.
