To be honest, I think we will see something major added. If it was just the new google maps, the reorganization of the app store and other little things, i think the name would of been 2.1.1, but since Apple is using 2.2, something tells me they have something else up their sleeve.

Thats exactly what I would think, but knowing Apple it will have nothing we dont already expect

There's been a secret feature in every version of the firmware since 2.0... craploads of unfounded speculation on forums like this...

:) Reading posts like this make it all worth it. People who complain about rumors on a rumor site. I just love it, really makes me smile.

Thanks SHIFTLife!

P.S. MMS so my mom can send me pics of my little bro more please.

in my brief history of owning apple products i would say they wouldnt just give out something major without getting up on their soapbox and publicly announcing it. As far as 2.2 i just want my phone to actually fetch my mail when im at work and not around wifi

Was I complaining? There I thought I was trying to inject a little humor into this thread. God forbid I make a joke without putting a smiley face somewhere in my post.

Oh I see... did Apple use (outside) Beta testers for 1.1.3? Did Apple use Beta testers for the initial 1.0 firmware? If they did, then I'm sorry... I was wrong... of course Apple can't build and test something internally without the help of the ultra fine Beta testers right? Like I said before... I didn't see screenshots of Genius before 2.1 came out. It was a secret and it wasn't mentioned in the Beta versions of 2.1. So THERE!

:D So what is going to be the 'secret feature(s)' this time?

If we dont get landscape sms , copy and paste or mms I WILL switch to the bold and not look back (any of the 3 would be fine). I know its possible for these things because I can do 2 of the 3 on my jailbroken phone (landscape sms and copy and paste). Swirly MMS doesn't work with at&t. If these underfunded devs can do it surely to god Apple can do it. I doubt the devs of things like cycorder and irealsms are rocket scientist. I am going to get the bold and sell my 3g if we dont get at least one new feature as a gesture of good faith.

D.I.V.A :D

And what about push being offered in September? Were we supposed to forget about that?

i think apple learned from all the issues they had when they launched a problematic MobileMe. People complained and were upset. Now when they delay the launch of a new feature (most likely because of issues/bugs that would make it have problems) people complain about it not being on time.

So basically , people will complain either way. I'd rather wait, and not have problems with the feature.

(and to answer your question, no, i don't think we were supposed to forget about it)

Yes, that would certainly mkle me happy, too. In fact, if all 2.2 included was a fix for push/fetch, I would be very happy. Here's hoping it happens

Don't feel bad, apparently I can't make a joke WITH smileys!

*looks shiftily at Ademius*

How is an ordinary smilie (and not a winking one) a statement of a joke?
(jokes in posts have been ruined by posters at other forums I'm at)

.. And besides, it's a common misconception.

I really want to believe Apple will have a few positive surprises tomorrow with the update. But I also know that this exact same chat was going around before 2.1 was released, in fact there were even fairly solid rumors that Apple stripped a few planned features from the developer betas in order to maintain secrecy, but alas the 2.1 that actually came out was EXACTLY what the developers saw (and reported) with nothing additional. So I'm not really hopeful, especially since Apple is selling a ton of iPhones as is despite the missing features. What motivation do they really need to step it up?

Except for there's already a 2.1.1 on the 2G iPod touch.
What would it be then?
2.1.1.1?

That's a very good point and I hope you're right :)
