I really think there will be secret new features in 2.2. We should make a list of what we think the new features will be. There's no way we'll be disappointed!!!!

I'm going to take the safe route and expect nothing much.

In that case, bring on the Japanese cartoons and the boring security patch that should have been updated 1 month ago! :(

Oh yeah, and allow another Google-developed application (Street View) and act like your such a superior company for bringing it to the iPhone.

fyi

no one knows what time the update will be released. because the last one was released at 9am, doesn't mean this one will.

updates have been released from during normal work hours all the way up until the evening when people are getting home from work. it's random.

It won't. Remember Apple employees are the ones who release it, and they are human too ;)

Apple employees don't have to be physically there to have it released. Stay up all night one time and you will see that there are new apps and updates being released at all ungodly hours of the night.

I see one of these threads everytime a firmware release comes out and in the end, its always what we expect.

I think its plainly obvious that sometime in the next year when Steve Jobs brings out the iPhone 2 , he'll get really proud and say, "We've got a better camera with video recording, MMS, a new landscape keyboard for email and text...blah blah blah. And we will all have to go buy a product that should have been out a long time ago

That's a whole separate system. Those could be timed even, you never know.

Someone could be working at Apple of course, but they won't release the iPhone software in the wee hours. They've released over 10 updates and none of them have been at night or way early in the morning.

My prediction is that we won't see any new secret features. Safari will look different and Google will have a street view. No PUSH, no copy/paste or MMS. Why do we do this to ourselves every time?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G (16GB, 2.1 PWNed): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

You must not know Apple very well...

Seriously. As much as I'd love Apple to pull their collective head out their *** and give us copy/paste, MMS, or pre-2.0 speed, I'm not holding my breath. They have no real incentive to deliver.

2.2 is Live, I am downloading it now.

And no this is not a joke.

Confirmed. 2.2 is now being downloaded by me!

Apparently, pressing the home button from any home screen takes you back to the first one. Helpful.

Plus, there is now a landscape email it seems.

Yet another update with very little to it. Thanks (for nothing) Steve Jobs.

Damn. Nothing exciting........I don't think I will even use street view that much. Although I am very grateful that Apple continues to improve the iPhone, I am so upset that they will not listen to their customer base and give us the features we want the most. I haven't seen people complaining about not having google street view........have you? No. I have seen people complaining about MMS, copy/paste, widscreen txt/email, and more. I was trying to hold out but it may actually be time for me to jailbreak.....damn.
