Why are people complaining? 9.3 is the most stable iOS - release ever. Period. (Quote: Apteligent. And statistics can't be wrong, it's factual hard figures based entirely on reality evaluated my smart people)

... Just like Vista used to be the most popular Operating System of its time. (Quote: Steve Ballmer @ MIX) .

Oh well... Today's Apple appears to be yesterday's Microsoft. Judging by their current software quality... But who am I to judge - I better leave that to statisticians. They might prove me wrong eventually.

TL;DR: Don't worry: Our "fearless leader Mr. Cook" (quote: Chipworks, another important company that knows what they are talking about) has the situation under control and will fix the issue shortly (proof: statistics).

Yup spot On.

The engineers know the problem very well, it's the same problem that engineers suffer in other organisations , feature development is being prioritised over maintaince of software. These days the attitude is to get it out the door asap for sales and fix it afterwards, and the ability the firmware or OS means we generally get crap, test it , and eventually get a working version. I've seen games get released that are unplayable on launch day....back in the day when you could not update them, the QA was excellent!

Oh man don't even get me started on video games. Ever since it was possible for consoles to get updates to patch games it went all down hill. Now almost every game is released with a day 1 patch and just unpolished.

I really think it would do wonders at Apple to just slow down a tiny bit, maybe 6-12 months and just do smaller features. It will be great when iOS 10 comes out and it works worse than iOS 9, the madness on this forum will start all over.

There was also a rumour last year that this or next year apple will rewrite their core apps using Swift. This could either help with fixing bugs or maybe, or better probably, even make things worse for a while.

As long as iOS does not get as bad as it was with 7.0, where it was nearly unusable because of slow speeds, freezes and constant springboard or app crashes, I'm alrite. The people that complain now should really get a device with iOS 7.0 to see iOS at it worst

I never have major problems with any iOS since 7.0. Does meant I cannot see the the lag and stutters, which actually got a lot better with iOS 9.3.

We will find out soon haha

This reminds me of how I would point out very precise bugs in these videos that I always link:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVQFi5tAhOgeBCheLWnovZExMXFRhQnu-

Then people here would tell me that I have psychological problems for seeing them as issues, that I have OCD, and that they would never occur in daily use.

Then people discover lock screen bypasses in the exact same way, making the entire OS vulnerable. I'm pretty sure there has never been a lock screen bypass trick that would be considered "regular use".

Isn't this critical bug just another one of these UI bugs that a lot of you have defended by saying I'm just nitpicking?

this vulnerability applies to a ridicolously subset of iOS users. So let's stop development altogether to hunt for bugs?

As opposite, I'd argue iOS is much more secure and less buggy NOW than before, remember "slide to jailbreak"?

I started using iPhones with the first generation. Lots of force quitting frozen apps (before third party apps were available) and many hard resets (sleep + home button) to keep it running. Massive improvements over the years.

Yes - but it is just voice control instead of siri which gives access to my iPhone - even after disabling also voice control.
The facts itselfs and the bug are still the same - anyone can have access to my contacts and call someone from a blocked iPhone under at least IOS 9.2.1 or IOS 9.3.1 (13E238) verified and still reproducible on two different iPhone5 from 2012. Without any passcode, just after pressing the home button for some seconds, followed by appearance of voice control.

THIS has not been fixed at all.
Can anyone else in this thread confirm the results above? I can't.

With:

Settings > General > Siri > Off
Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Voice Dial > Off

... can anyone get the phone to dial by holding the home button for some seconds, and then speaking to the Voice Control?

Mine says "Voice Dialing is Disabled".

Per Apple, "Voice Control for the Music app is always on, but for better security you can prevent voice dialing when iPhone is locked.", and that's how my phone is working.

After reading all the comments about these privacy issues, I'm beginning to think that I'm the only person who has never used a passcode on my phone. I never did it with the first iphone, and i cant start now.

Do you also not close your front door at home? Better not loose that phone on a night out.
Also touchID, it's quite magical. Give it a try, you phone is unlocked before you can say passcode.

do you really believe your own words? An "epic fail"?

Well if this was still 2007, when that phrase was still used, for just about anything, it might make sense ("The barista gave me three extra shots of espresso when I asked for four. EPIC FAIL!"). But it is 2016 so it just looks dated.

Mike

I just tried to reenact this and my phone STILL prompted me for a passcode before performing the Twitter search. Seems a bit fishy to me.

I just try and not working, I'm sick of fake videos.
I'm right there with you. I have a 6s+.

it has been confirmed already by someone else in posting # 100:

good night.

Confirmed, this is real! I'm on 9.3.1. Just say 'Search twitter for gmail.com'. Then click a tweet with an email address and force-press it.

It's not related to Voice Dialling. Just make sure twitter has previously been able to work with twitter before locking and checking.

Just did as you said and am STILL presented with keyboard to unlock phone first. I suppose I should post a video too. #VideoOrItIsFake

good night.
Post 100 references using Siri and 3D Touch -- the bug that Apple corrected on the Siri server-end a bit ago.

In your example, you said you were using Voice Control <not Siri>, and your iPhone 5 doesn't even support 3D Touch.

I think his post was from earlier this morning. If Apple made that server-side fix this afternoon to correct it, that may explain why you can't recreate it now.

No,i dont think so.

Every company has their up and downs; their Edsel, their Vista, so to speak.

They will be back on track once they understand that software quality is equally important as hardware design and start taking "software" serious again.

So, random forum guys understand this, but somehow Apple won't take software seriously.
All this, due to a glitch that Apple apparently fixed hours ago (I couldn't reproduce it this morning).

Gotta love the internet.

i gave it a shot with the 6s cuz i heard it was much faster, but its still an inconvenience. I had it on for about a week so that i could use apple pay, but it didnt take. it works very well, but i just cant get used to it. it was mainly only aggravating when sliding notifications from the lock screen, only to have it ask for my passcode/fingerprint.

and my wife gets on to me for refusing to lock my car in the driveway. i'll take the trade off of a break in once or twice in my life for a lifetime of convenience of an unlocked car/phone. I dunno what you would want on my phone anyway. pics? bank apps require passwords.

I think they do understand it, but have extended themselves way too far way too quickly.

Let's be honest with ourselves. Apple is shipping things faster than ever and sometimes issues happen that cause people to question QC. It's a shame that they don't hold a few things back longer, we might get fewer of the quotes you quoted.

Problem is, if Apple would stand still and just fine-tune and bugfix, the same internet troops would jump onto a totally different set of arguments.

Don't forget that just before the iPhone pundits and internet guys were claiming Jobs had lost his touch, had no more ideas if not a thinner iPod and Apple was doomed.

It appears to be a security flaw in that you seem to be able to edit contacts... that's a data breach.

Agreed!
But saying that you have "access" to photos is a bit of a stretch... I mean he was viewing them on the device to add them as a contact photo, but he couldn't for example text them or email them.
Not sure I'd really call that "access". Kinda like being able to see into a set of safe deposit boxes... breach of privacy, yet- "access" to their valuables, no.

It is great to see that Apple implemented a patch on their servers, but this also exposes something to law enforcement agencies, and that is that Apple will only have to undo a certain patch, for (s) specific device(s), to give them access to photos and contact data. And possibly to other data as well. Well. Sorry Tim Cook, but I call that a backdoor as well.

This is why my company block Siri while the phone it locked. It just gives access to too much and we have seen this a few times how it can be used to get in some convoluted way
