Predictions? Okay.

- Retina (same or even higher quality) OLED.
- NFC.
- Touch home-button and perhaps even volume and power.
- Wireless charging.
- Siri (properly powerful)
- The works (more CPU, GPU, RAM, Storage, Camera, etc).
- Thinner and lighter but stronger (fancy materials).
- Possibly two different sizes (one larger than today, and one smaller).
- iOS6 (closer to OSX power - and for some reason, only available with this model and beyond)

To me, a major overhaul or redesign should include the introduction of something completely new.

I think it'll be a few more iterations before we see OLED screens on the iPad due to the low yields/large screen sizes, not to mention at high resolutions.

As for wireless charging, I don't think Apple will adopt it until it becomes more widespread and power efficient.

I wouldn't hold my breath for such a list. Just sayin' :)

So many of these pathetic posters just cannot afford to buy or upgrade to the new iPad 3.

Grow up, don't hate on the new iPad. You will look like a fool.

I see the 3rd gen iPad as the one that is finally right. It answers the vast majority of complaints of lacking features. I can't see what more they could do without a major redesign.
It's got the retina screen finally. It has a decent rear camera finally. It has 1GB ram finally. It has the fastest processor of all the iPads.
It has Verizon or ATT plus 4G Finally! Bluetooth 4.0!
I don't see what more people can reasonably ask for .
The only thing to do now is try something completely new which I can't imagine right now what that would be..

Note the iPhone's release pattern so far:
- First iPhone (The wow factor)
- iPhone 3G (First redesign)
- iPhone 3Gs (Improvements on existing design)
- iPhone 4 (Massive improvement and redesign)
- iPhone 4s (Improvements on existing design)

if the iPad follows the same pattern:
- First iPad
- iPad 2
- New iPad (3rd gen)
- New New iPad (4th Gen)

To me, the 4th gen may be the one REALLY worth the wait. And they're bound to have a redesign next year since they skipped it this round. I've always told people: "Get it Today if you want/need it. Or you'll be waiting forever." But this time....

I was dead set on getting one, but I can't seem to displace this from my mind.

I think the vastly improved screen , LTE, and improved camera amount to a substantially improved product. Why does it have to look different? Better it stays the same and still fits into my old dock and smart cover.

I totally agree with you. I feel like the iPad 3 is a perfected state of the iPad 2. I vowed I would not get a third generation iPad because I got the iPad 2 at Christmas time. But its a perfect product.

Who cares about a touch home button. It will perform the same function as the current, press-able home button. Siri is cool and would be a nice addition. The only way the device could get better is if the camera on the back became a DSLR and the device weighed less than half a pound.

I love my iPad 2. But I am sure I would be more in love with the New iPad.

You're going to miss out on an amazing device, just to wait for a slightly more amazing device??

Newsflash - Buy a third generation iPad, look after it very well, sell it next February and that whole 11 months of ownership will cost you about $100.

What he said.

Hmm. OP might be onto something. I would say that if we want this to happen- we should stay quiet about it.

Apple might not do it if this gets out too much.

I personally think a Retina Display with improved colour, Dictation, the works (more CPU, GPU, RAM, Camera, etc), LTE, and the knowledge that iOS 6 will run on it like water, all while keeping the battery life somehow the same is an A+ update. I also feel that people who say this isn't enough wouldn't be happy no matter what Apple announced and would always complain that it doesn't have X,Y & Z and that next year's iPad ? will be the real update.

But hey, that's just how I feel. I got my wish list (minus full Siri) and I'm sorry you didn't get yours.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B176 Safari/7534.48.3)

Yeah, good luck with that.

Why would you want a touch home button? The physical button is much easier to find and press without having to look, especially in the dark. It's also harder to press by accident because you have to actually apply some pressure.

Double echo. The touch buttons on my SGII are mildly annoying.
