You may not like the video but this is a huge deal. I mean, the average Joe really has no excuse now.
If you're in professional studio with professional lighting, a professional artist with all the professional make-up, hair and wardrobe people and associated facilities; the ability to reshoot everything as often as needed and then finishing with professional post processing and editing then you're probably not an "average Joe".

Except for the “additional software and professional hardware used,” and the Mac to edit it on, per the fine print at the end. You’re not getting a video like that out of the Camera app on a handheld iPhone with the ceiling fan for light and iMovie for iOS to edit on.
Obviously. But the main hardware for any video is the camera itself, and that is the point here.

Just talking about the video nothing to do with the artist.. The video is not very techincally challanging. Lighting is well done, no movement really.. Not sure how this shows the iPhone 11 "shine"....
Shooting a professional music video clip for a highly popular artist with the phone is not enough to shine? What do you want? Next Star Wars shoot entierly on an iPhone with scratched camera lens to recognize it as accomplishment?

I’m an average Joe and I‘m unimpressed with the constant fade in and out editing and lack of color. It wouldn’t surprise me to know it was recorded on a phone.

PS - Couldn‘t we change the headline to read; professional videographer goes hands-on a iPhone 11 along with a professional artist, professional studio, professional lighting, professional support staff, and professional editing equipment.

I‘m an Apple user, but this is pointless.

Yeah, I'm typing this on a Microsoft Natural Keyboard hooked up to my "trash can" Mac Pro at work. So, this morning, I'm also an Apple user, at least at work. Not that it matters in any way which tool anybody uses to create content or do work; it's the content and the result of the work that matters.

However, Apple's marketing has always tried to tell people something else: Buying the tool is what matters. If you own the tool, then everything else will magically fall into place. Just buy owning an iPhone, you magically become a prize winning photographer...

Leave iPhone for what it's good at..... You can tell the pro type songs from those just shot on Phone quite easily.

The black & white stuff is good.

It’s stunning what this phone can do with video. Unbelievable. Game changer. What the Canon 5D did for DSLR video a decade ago, the iPhone 11 Pro Max will do for smart phone video.
This video is a really bad representation of what the iPhone camera can do. Hard to see what you're describing as stunning. The iPhone can produce stunning video, but this ain't it. There are plenty of much better examples of the phone's video capabilities. This video is pretty pedestrian.

Bit of hyperbole you got going there with the DSLR/11PM comparison. People have been shooting movies on iPhones as far back as the iPhone 4. Remember when the Burberry fashion show was shot on an iPhone? People were expressing the same sentiments that you're expressing now. I can pretty much guarantee if you went back to any of the threads about videos/movies shot on iPhone, you can find that exact same sentiment.

I think people are kind of missing the point. "THE VIDEO SUCKS", feel free to think so, but it was still shot on an iPhone, and you'd be none the wiser had it not been mentioned. That's pretty impressive, regardless of what happened in post!

Do I think it was the best representation of what it COULD do? No. The video was rather simple. It would have been nice to see something a little more technical. However, still very impressive.

Well, when it comes to advertising and selling their products, Apple really knows what to do and how to do it... good for them. For iPhone 11 they hired Selena Gomez to shoot a video to advertise that the phone can be a tool for professional and for iPad they asked Adobe to create "desktop grade" Photoshop exclusively for them to advertise that iPad Pro is for professional content creator.

The way I see it, Apple is trying to challenge the tools used by professional content creators hoping to have a shock and awe effect and end return more sales. I think only few professionals will be convinced but the rest of the content consumers will be amazed that they would want to buy Apple products.

I think one indicator of how good the camera for this kind of job is when more and more people will be using it for their YouTube channel. With this music video I'm sure some will be inspired to use it and let's see what happens.

That they decided to go black and white in the end is rather a big warning sign. Dumping all the color channels makes for a questionable camera demo.
Interestingly there have been several Theatrical Movies shot on iPhones by award winning directors over the years.

Would like to know what post they did.

You may not like the video but this is a huge deal. I mean, the average Joe really has no excuse now. Pretty much anything can be imagined even on a mobile budget.
What else is there to edit in post, besides arranging the video files? It's not anything incredible - black and white filter, some slow mo clips and weird transitions. That's it.

The issue isn't the video (not the technical video quality but the edited film we are watching) is done by a pro. If you've ever watched the video channel on youtube (I forget the name) out of Hong Kong where it's like "video made by a pro videographer on a toy" or something, and you watch Phillip Bloom shoot a video using a barbie doll with a camera in her chest (apparently that was a thing at some point) and it's barely VHS quality, but of course it's a good video (because it's Phillip bloom). So yeah, with Lighting rigs in a studio, with makeup teams and FCPX on a Mac Pro, sure you can shoot high quality video on the phone.

I appreciate this is about being shot on iPhone but I couldn't help being distracted by the intricacies of the lyrics, that must have taking months to write. 😀

I think the highlight is to show how good it is filming in low light. But there is a chance that it was made look dark at post-production.

Nice song, but uninspired video. :(
The song sucks and the video too. Bad try.

Well... it was shot on an iPhone, what do you expect? The most honest commercial ever.
Exactly. It doesn't really show much.

Here's a better example of a music video shot on a regular iPhone 11... not Pro!

Funny thing is that none of you would know the video was shot with iPhone if you weren't told on this article. Stumbling on each other who can throw the negativity first. Only on MacRumors!

They had to cross fade the clips between every line she sang because that’s how much video can fit at one time on the iPhone 11 Pro with 64GB
