Well hotshot, I’m not basing my statement on what a tech reviewer shoots. I own an iPhone 11 Pro Max, and I’m a filmmaker, so I know exactly how great the video is, and why the specs on this phone and the revised interface matter for production.

As far as making a parallel to the Canon 5Ds, I’ve owned those as well, and am extremely well versed in exactly what those cameras benefits and limitations were, in each iteration. Just as with the iPhone, some early adapters used the first version to shoot stuff that’s never really been done with that form factor before, but neither product really hit their stride in terms of video until until years/versions after their debuts. To me, three terrific lenses that seamlessly cover everything between ultrawide and 2x tele, eliminating the need for clunky add-on lenses, plus advanced HDR and high frame rate make this new iPhone a game changer in terms of video, and there will be an explosion of much higher-end production and content being created with it. This will be a sea change. Mark my words.

It’s interesting that you seem to get your jollies by foisting negativity and cynicism onto a post that dares to express deep appreciation for a cutting edge technology and design savvy that most production pros worth their salt will eagerly embrace. Good luck with all that. The rest of us will be over here embracing innovation and making stunning new content.
We're expressing opinions. If you don't want yours critiqued on an internet forum, prolly should post it. You think the video is stunning, I don't. Different people, different opinions. As I said - pretty clearly, the iPhone can produce stunning video. This video is not an example of stunning. I'm guessing we're just going to disagree on that point.

You being a filmmaker doesn't really lend gravitas to your opinions. You could be a terrible filmmaker. I don't know. Either way it's irrelevant. Also I'm not sure what you read in my comment that makes you think I was being negative about the iPhone and it's tech. In fact, I'd love for you to point it out. Pretty sure you'd quickly find nothing negative or cynical about the iPhone in my comment. What you will find is a criticism of two things. 1. The quality of the video. 2. Your use of hyperbole. That's it. So please spend a little less time being indignant and a little more understanding what you read.

And?
I can shoot pretty good photos and decent video with my XS Max. If I gave it to a professional, they could do a much better job making it look ... professional.

Personally I am not a fan of Selena. When you see her in person in everyday life she is not that memorable. Then again, not many stars are.

Yeah but you’re not a multi selling artist shooting a music video so not really a good comparison. And I mean, she’ll be more memorable this decade than the Dodgers’ baseball career

“please spend a little less time being indignant and a little more understanding what you read.”

The irony of this self-righteous statement is pretty rich considering that your entire pointless post was based on a careless reading of mine. If you’d bothered to follow your own advice and spent even a modicum of time understanding “what you read” in my post, we’d have all be spared your misguided critique and unnecessary bloviation against a straw man statement that no one, least of all me, actually made. I wrote:

“It’s stunning what this phone can do with video.”

I made no comment about the Selena Gomez music video. I simply commented on the capabilities of the new camera, from having personally used it on several shoots to create some video that I thought was stunning. And from watching footage shot by other filmmakers like Ryan Johnson.

As far as being a filmmaker, it’s certainly not some imprimatur that makes me an authority. It’s just information to lend context to my statements. It wouldn’t matter if I was a good filmmaker or a bad one. But my experience with having worked through the DSLR revolution certainly does give me the perspective to see that this camera may be the next revolution. In the end I’m not right because I’m a filmmaker. I’m right because I made a good point based on the reality of the production market and this product’s place in it. Whether you think it’s hyperbole is irrelevant. I’m fairly certain it’s not, but time will be the final arbiter. Check back in a year or two if you dare. I’m fairly certain you won’t but if you do I’ll be happy to serve you all the crow you can eat.
