Do you think it's a good idea to buy Galaxy note after selling my iPad 2. I can't keep both. I like galaxy note because it's phone cum tablet and having higher resolution than iPad 2. What do you guys suggest? Thanks!

excuse me?

Utter rubbish. I have an iPad2 and can tell you that in no way does it replace my MBA or my MBP. You simply do not know what you are talking about.

agree that you can't replace a macbook with iPad2, but with suitable tools like virtual desktop you can do "some" of your work there..but iPad/iPhone mail client can almost replace the blackberry except that search by subject/sender in blackberry is more efficient..(maybe next version of mail in iPhone/ipad will get even better)

excuse me?

cum = "with" in Latin. Pronounced: "coom." But it's a short "oo" sound.

It's an expression. Something cum something.

Might be familiar from college/uni. For instance, if you graduated cum laude, you graduated with honours.

If you can put up with Android and not knowing if you'll ever be able to upgrade, go for it. I'll keep my iPad. It's just a much much piece of tech.

If you can put up with iAnything, not knowing what features will be removed from next iOS upgrade for your device....

yep. we are all at the mercy of google and apple. but, if you are using android, you are also at the mercy of your manufacturer and/or carrier as well. will you get the next update, and if so, when? i am still waiting to upgrade from froyo on my phone :(

at least with apple you can safely assume your device will be supported for a couple of iterations.

I think you can split it this way

Google: Your device will be upgraded. No idea when.

Apple: Your device will be upgraded. But some features won't make it.

LOL I took latin for 3 years and familiar with it. I've never seen anyone really use that in everyday conversation- especially on a message board. Thanks for the latin refresh!

They're not in the same niche. The iPad 2 is a laptop replacement. It has the feel of a laptop but stripped down. There is very little sacrifice with web use, document viewing, etc.

Anything smaller, such as the Galaxy note, is a step backward. Web browsing, document viewing are going to feel cramped.

But they are very nice no doubt, and being an owner of both, I can say the Note does a good job but does not replace the iPad. The iPad is just more comfortable navigating.

In other words: Your nuts if you sell your iPad :D

Guess a lot of us are nuts then! Actually it is the other way around for some here. My Macbook Pro was an iPad replacement!
No regrets either. Between my iPhone 4, my iMac 27, and my Macbook Pro, I hardly used the Ipad2, so it is gone.
That's not to say that I couldn't be tempted agin if the Ipad3 has some features it did not have before that make it better at being a productivity device instead of a consumption device.
I know many use it for various things, but for me it was an extra device sitting around not getting used.

And these threads about waiting for the next generation model are getting old. That is life. New stuff comes out, and eventually replaces the old stuff, but anyone that waits 3+ months for the new iPad, really doesn't need one. Oh thats right....no one really needs one.

Seems like a poor form factor: too big for a phone (and a little large to be very pocket friendly), too small for a tablet to capitalize on the improved experience and usability of a larger size screen area.

Pentile is also a deal breaker for me, whether it's on LCD or SAMOLED. Looking at a SGS vs. an SGS II, the difference is amazing, though admittedly I haven't seen any of the high[er] res pentile displays yet.

Some people use these. It's not uncommon. It's almost like the people who took latin were traumatized. I know I would be. Of course that would be mainly because I failed the course.

Unless you root, which is *incredibly* simple on Samsung phones and some of the custom roms seem more stable than the official ones.

good luck with substandard quality of a apps found in android store. I suggest you wait for 7.85" iPod Touch rather than buying Galaxy Note.

I might agree with your first comment. Although I would love to see 7.85" iPod / iPad but I wonder how did you come to know this? More help, please...

How exactly? What does their business model have to do with it? Advertising is their main source of revenue. I don't see why that would preclude hardware acceleration in Android. Seems like it would help it,. actually.

What hardware acceleration?

http://www.neowin.net/news/google-delivers-christmas-cheer-complete-with-stuttering-android-devices

What's the holdup? Still st-stu-st-uuttering and laaaaaaaaagging after how many years?

Licensing out your OS to every OEM and their dog does not make for an ideal situation for hardware/software optimization. And these are basic things. Google still doesn't have the basics ironed out after several years.

The Samsung Galaxy S2, more less Samsung's flagship smartphone has *noticeable* lag. It's as if Android touch technology is out of sync with finger movements. Not to mention that even the latest Android still looks like a second-rate Linux distro. Horrendously poor UI design. You can really tell how much Google values their own product, never mind the fact that they have no qualms with losing control of it when passing it off to OEMs.

But I'm sure Google is just holding off whatever they plan to do to instantly remedy the situation in order to maintain suspense. Exciting!

There was not a single bit of lag there, except panorama capture. But hey, I'd rather have panorama capture with slight lag then no feature at all.

On the same boat... Before..

I think it's best that you keep your iPad, it is simply amazing and incomparable with the galaxy note, but however if you have an ipod touch and an iphone give them up and get the gslaxy note! (like what i did sold my redundant devices iphone and ipod touch then bought the amazing galaxy note :)

"the" upgrade

Samsung has announced that their devices will be upgradeable to ICS first quarter of 2012. And btw, the current gingerbread version is the reason why apple upgraded to ios 5, why the 4s now has dual core A5 chips etc. to match what has been being long enjoyed by android users :)

Samsung note actually doesnt need much of an upgrade. Apple on the other hand updated to ios5 to match android gingerbread. Ipad is good to keep because of its very large screen good for gaming, watching movies and web browsing but it doesnt mean that it is more amazing than the galaxy note.

Apps for both are the same, came from the same developers. I dont understand the substanstard apps youre saying.
