I commend the OP. I wish I had the money for an iPad. Heck, I wish I have a little to donate to Japan....

But hey, there's a lot of heated discussion about iPad and Japan, etc....

One thing I'm NOT looking forward to is the people who came around flaunting their iPad 1 coming by again to flaunt their iPad 2's....

I guess we'll see how Japan gets through their tragedy and hope the better for them.

I commend anyone who donates money after a disaster. However, even more credit must be given to those generous people who have donated what they believed was a lot of money, and kept that information to themselves. ;) That is selfless.

Not selfless. People do it to make themselves feel good, get in good with their creator, for good karma, etc.

Wow. Congrats. You've inspired me to donate.

You should be very pleased with yourself, not a lot of people are as un-selfish as you or are in a position to be able to offer such help. It's good that someone is though.

Thousands of people are dead, and hundreds of thousands are either injured and homeless, or both.

Stop arguing and get a life. There are more important things to do with your time. So the OP wanted praise - whether he really did or not, the fact is the money he sent WILL be useful to relief efforts. His motives are therefore irrelevant to survivors.

BAM!

Cheers.

Assuming this is true :)P) it makes the entire thread worthwhile.

The OP did an honorable thing. Even though we all know about the horrible happenings over there, posting the idea here WILL get more people to consider it. Got me to donate 20$ through red cross at least.

One thing is to read about tsunamis and earthquakes on the news, but to read about it on a forum where people spend time to discuss which toy (essentially) to buy will put things in perspective. Seeing terrible things on the news is more normal if you catch my drift.

So, kudos to the OP for having the guts to encourage us. If you think he donated that amount of money to get some praises here you are really in denial. He is being a narcissist for giving? What would happen if everybody had this point of view?

It's not about giving awat all your savings, it's about caring. Everything helps!

Very true. I would not be surprised in the least that him posting this double the total amount. (as in people reading this donated a total of at least how much he donated that other wise would not of been donated).

It is a good thing he did it and I will say I am impressed.

Now if only it did not take tragities for people to donate money to good causes.

Proverbs 27:1-2

Proverbs 27:1-2 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth. Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

While it is commendable to the OP for what he did, it would have better served him and the debating in this thread had he simply encouraged others to donate, provided a link to the Red Cross or other charitable donation website and not disclose that he did or did not, nor how much he donated.

This Proverb is totally true and the evidence is within this thread. Some are citing him for boasting of himself for how much he gave, while others are praising him for it.

I think it's great that he donated a fair amount of money, that of the cost of an iPad, but it wasn't necessary to say it. Instead, encourage others to donate for the survivors of the devastation and provide some links and/or telephone numbers and all would be happy.
