Japan, one of the richest countries in the world doesn't need your money or my money. They're feeding money into their factories to get them going again. So I think they could just divert their funds to the people and buy supplies from other countries.

You could use that money to help third world countries. You know, the ones that don't have trillions of dollars?

Thanks for the economics lesson. Japan has a Debt to GDP of about 200% (FACT) but they have "trillions of dollars"? Brilliant !

As another poster mentioned, even if they had trillions of dollars LOL, cities and individual PEOPLE need the money. I could be from the richest country in the world, that doesn't magically mean I have tons of money.

If you want praise you should put it up for auction and mention in the description that all proceeds will go to the relief fund in Japan and donate ALL the money you receive there, not just the profit you made off selling it.

I also agree with the poster some people are calling a troll (really don't see how he was a troll). Easy enough to create a thread and suggest that people pass their iPad 2 money onto disaster relief for Japan. No need to bring up the fact that you donated and make it the thread title. I have a hard time believing the OP did not think about being praised at least once while creating this thread.

It's no secret that a liar won't believe anyone else. -U2

Tell Sony to donate. This is an Apple forum...an American company. Maybe Sony can forfeit some profits on their $4,000 3DTV's to help out their people. Will they? No, because they prefer the money in their wallets...so why should we do any different?

there's millions done in damage there, they can use the contributions. I mean, we're suppose to be the richest country in the world but much of new orleans was destroyed for how long? We didn't go in and instantly pay up to build everyone a new house again.

If someone wanted to donate money, this is a nice way. Not all of us can stand to just give $500 away.

Just because Japan is a rich country, it doesn't mean that they don't need help. There are many who are hungry and homeless. The people on this forum don't represent Apple, so theres no point posting comments such as to go to a Sony forum.

I think the OP's idea is good, but something that many people would have probably figured out on their own.

Everyone on this forum is so cynical ... sheesh.

Good job OP, that's really nice of you. Just ignore what some other people are posting.

They didn't! Thats the point.

Yes money buys those things, the point you are missing is Japan has money, and LOTS of it, THEY DONT NEED US. Period.

red cross was asking for donations for katrina.

they may not need us for help. but helping someone is good in human nature. if your neighbor was in need of help, would you not help? he could support himself or herself but helping is just the proper thing to do.

i'll repost the quote i put up earlier....some uptight nancy's on this site.

Okay bud, I'll have a 8.9 magnitude earthquake hit your town and see how you feel when someone tells you you don't need the money because you already have a lot. When you're the one sitting their without food, electricity, shelter, or any means to know if the rest of your family is okay or even alive.

Japan is the 3rd richest nation in the world. They don't need your ipad money. In fact, they haven't asked for any money. People see a disaster and automatically assume that throwing money into it will solve the issue. It doesn't work like that.

We really don't need a new thread on this. Here's the original: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1117211/

regardless of the intentions of the OP, whether he looking for praise, trolling etc. etc. blah blah blah i found the idea of it inspiring, so much so that i may just need to give up some of my own little luxuries for a while to go the relief effort. i hope other people can do the same

Daft thing to do.

Japan is a wealthy economically developed country, their not Haiti, they don't need your iPad money, you need it far more than them.

Of course, you've had to come here and tell us what you've done as well.

Pathetic really.

I've spent over a year lurking these forums. The amount of ignorance in this post finally compelled me to register.

While Japan is quite clearly one of the most wealthy countries in the world, you seem to lack the basic knowledge that MONEY can't be EATEN. Money can't be given to a child with diarrhea to make them feel better. Money won't save you from dying due to lack of safe drinking water. Money won't shelter you from the freezing winds and rains.

Money, can, however buy all of these things. Money that GENEROUS people donate to helpful organizations. Organizations whose main focus is providing these necessities to people in need. The Red Cross doesn't just hand your money over to those in need. They work with volunteers who are able to go into these disaster-struck regions and provide aide. They bring them food, medicine, safe drinking water, shelter.

You, sir, are the one that is quite daft.

PS. It is "they're", not "their"

I couldn't agree with you more.

To the OP: Well done - what you've done is very commendable and has encouraged me to also make a donation - not as generous as yours, but a donation none the less.

Thank you.

Who cares what the OP's motivation is to donate his/her money. It's a large chunk of change. Very generous.

I eschew interfering in the financial well-being of other countries.

There is plenty of opportunity to quietly support suffering people, right here at home. :)

I don't think the OP ever planned on buying an iPad. He doesn't even like it.

I commend anyone who donates money after a disaster. However, even more credit must be given to those generous people who have donated what they believed was a lot of money, and kept that information to themselves. ;) That is selfless.
