Same here on the exception from UPS. First Apple product I've had shipped via UPS and the first that's delayed. For now, no update on a new delivery date, but it will probably be a one day delay. Spoke with Apple customer service and they had no clue except to say they've had some calls on this and it might be a customs thing (I think the weight theory is much more likely).
So my wife's phone made the flight and mine's delayed (figures!) so I'll be waiting for deliveries on multiple days. Not a huge deal, but annoying after the long wait for the 5s.
Overall, the handling of this rollout and delivery is well below my usual exemplary experience with Apple customer service. I hope they spend a little time to work on avoiding it in the future.
