I mainly use for sports and the 3 has been solid for that. But I have just sold my space grey sports version as I am after picking up a Space Black SS for a decent price. I actually prefer the kind of 70s sci-fi retro shape of the 3 rather than the rounded 4.

I’ve been wearing a Series 0 (original Apple Watch) since late 2015 and will not upgrade it as it handles notifications perfectly fine. I got it just to have the notifications on the wrist as i often couldn’t hear/feel them with the phone in my pocket and a log of heartbeats on the health app and until it stops working I’m not gonna change it.

Edit: I know mine is not a Series 3 but thought my experience could be useful to someone

I have 24hrs to decide whether or not to sell my grey ceramic to “upgrade’ to a SS, or not... Bloody hard decision.

I would consider keeping the ceramic. They don’t even have that version anymore. I know it’s tough though because the SS is expensive at $700. Near the price of the ceramic in some cases.

I went from the Series 0 to the Series 3 - it was a nice upgrade.

I had no intention of upgrading, but I am. The larger screen and new shape design looks fantastic, but the heat feature pushed me over the edge. I have very mild heart issues on occasion. These new health features sold me.

Basically someone has offered me £800 cash tomorrow, so that’s why I have to decide. I just love the durability compared to the SS and SBSS isn’t an option for me.

I have a ceramic gray Edition Series 3 and I like the ceramic much more than SS, so I'm reluctant to upgrade, but probably will in the end.

Was going to, but no ECG and no timeline until it arrives basically makes it £200 for a larger screen and a slightly thinner case. Not worth it personally.

Won't knock anyone who does as the screen does look beautiful - but I can get at least another year out of my S3.
Im not sure if the only upgrade things you like are the screen and thinner case, or if you are implying that’s all there is worth considering. I upgrade more because of the new technology; better faster processor and louder speakers for example. I don’t even care about the thinner factor, and I love my series 3 display but I am looking forward to the other reasons to upgrade. I would be happy to stick with my new series 3, but I raised the money so the upgrade is only costing me the lack of things I sold.

I upgraded from an S3. I have AFib so it’s worth it to me just for that. Going with the aluminum model from now on. At least until we reach that point that the upgrades aren’t so substantial that you only end upgrading when your battery is pretty much toast.

I have the series 3 GPS+Cellular SS black and melrose band love it but I like the new medical added features
so I think that I will buy it

The problem is, even retaining the ceramic, the value will continue to drop. The Apple Watch is the one product that has resale value that struggles, especially now with the launch of the Series 4 Apple Watch. Unless somebody didn’t want to part from the ceramic, then maybe I would keep it, but otherwise it’s just like all the other models that will devalue.

But it’s ideal for daily and gym wear and not having a Series 4 ceramic is a real bummer. It feels a bit of a downgrade going to the Series 4 SS if you know what I mean.

Understandable, but you still the black stainless which has the DLC that is extremely protective. It might be a little bit heavier than the ceramic model, but the protection should be almost adequate or equal to.

Yeah, tried a SBSS before the ceramic and wasn’t a fan of the look to be honest, black isn’t my colour.

I like it, but won’t be ordering this year. The trade in on my series 3 isn’t good enough and the price of the series 4 is prohibitive for me. I try to upgrade phones every two years. Next year might be time for a new iPad... maybe sooner depending on my company’s purchase program. Series 3 was my first Apple Watch, so I am not sure how long I’ll keep that.

Apple products are such an expensive habit.

I've had every Apple Watch since the original and I am upgrading to the series 4 from my current series 3. Things like the larger display, haptic feedback, more complications etc. make it worthwhile to me.

My company gave me a 130 discount on the Apple Watch last year if I bought it off them and $200 for buying a fitness product. I can get $200 again but not sure if they will give me the $130 discount again. If not I’ll just buy a few pairs of sneakers with the $200 for fitness equipment

OK fair enough, but I haven't found my S3 noticeably slow and keep it on silent permanently, so the only tangible benefit to me are the design changes.

I'd love one, but can't justify £200 a year upgrading (even when you take into account what you can get selling it).

When I bought my S3 a year ago I said I would hold onto it for several years. Then I saw the S4 and decided to pre-order it immediately. :) I have always liked watches and the S4 looks fantastic. I justify it by hanging onto my iPhone 7 - phone upgrades just don’t do much for me anymore.

Same, I’m keeping my iPhone 6s until it dies lol

I only upgraded from a 6s to a 7s because I switched to T-Mobile and they gave me 4 free iPhone 7s’. I just don’t see the point in upgrading stuff every year. Do you guys upgrade your computers every year? I mean I use to when I graduated college and had insane disposable income. But phones are now almost the price of a MacBook Pro. The watch isn’t exactly cheap either at $400.

Apple just hypnotized us into buying their stuff every year. For me when I noticed my phone bill went down $150 bucks after I didn’t have to do the installement plan any more. It’s like that’s cool I’ll wait for these 4 phones to die in 2 years more years.

i was not going to buy it.... and then i just ordered it. oh well.

hopefully i will be able to use the ECG feature when it arrives, because i'm using an US account.

I’m not interested in all the AI and game hardware they’ve been promoting anyway. My phone works fine for what I need it for.
