I'm on the fence. I have an S4 sitting in my apple shopping cart. Looking at about $900 with tax. Then I start thinking, I need to have a crown done for $1200. I keep putting that off because I don't want to spend the money but I'll jump on an Apple Watch. Life's priorities!

So the watch is still sitting in the cart. I've said in the past that I probably wouldn't upgrade for awhile. The watch is nice and I wear it everyday but I don't even come close to using it at 50% of it's capability. I glance at it to check the time and temperature and also take a quick glance at messages and to see who is calling me. It's very rare that I use it for anything else. But... I like new technology and like having things that most others don't have for awhile so I'm going back and forth with all of this. I have $200. in Apple gift cards that I get from my Barclay Apple card and I've been meaning to research what I can sell my current watch for (S3 stainless). $900 turn into $700 after the GCs then maybe at least $400 for my current watch so it's only $300. Yeah, I'd do that!

I also don't like to wait. I didn't jump on this when Apple opened up ordering so I'm currently looking at mid-October unless my locale Apple Store has them in stock Friday.

Like others, I had no intention of replacing my Series3 gold aluminum, as it works great and looks like new. However, when I watched the keynote address and saw all the new features.....health monitoring, fall protection, more complications on the face (always a sore point with me that I could only see 2 or 3 on a given face), and increased volume, not to mention the larger face......and incidentally, the gold SS looked amazing like my wedding rings, not the orange gold of the Series 3 aluminum. So I figured.....paid $400 for the Series 3; receiving $225 for trade in; means I only spent $175 for a year of hard use.....then also had $200 in gift cards from Barclay CC which means the $700 Series 4 Gold Stainless w/Stone band drops to $500. Still..... $500 means I'll be keeping the Series 4 for awhile to justify the cost.

I want to upgrade...
But i need to sell my SS S3 first haha
If i can sell it at good price i might upgrade....
If not.... im still ok with it and get new bands instead haha

Try to see what Apple will give you. I traded in my Series 3 Aluminum GPS and got $175. I was actually surprised they gave me that much. I was also able to keep the band and charger.

Since Apple still doesn't offer LTE in the Series 4 Apple Watch sold in New Zealand, I see no reason to upgrade from my S3. I almost skipped out on upgrading from the S0 to the S3 for the same reason last year, but I had to upgrade after watchOS 4 badly affected Workout app performance on my S0.

As soon as Apple sells an Apple Watch with LTE in NZ, I'll upgrade. Until then, nope.

I am.
I am liking the increasing number of health related functions being added to the watch. Year after year it seems my overall health is on a rollercoaster and at the moment, the watch has been my greatest ally in keeping it at the forefront of my day.
I am type2 and have a continuous glucose monitoring device so my current blood sugar numbers are being checked and shown every 5 minutes. Meaning I can have a type of food and know within 15minutes if my numbers are increasing hard, slightly, holding steady or dropping.
This combo has been my number 1 without a doubt function for the last 2 years.

I have also been having occasional other issues and will be hoping watch s4 can give me even a little more insight into what is going on with me.

Since learning about type2 a little over 4 years ago I have been to completely change up all food and drink intake and last week just passed the 100lb lost mark. My motivation being that I don't care for drugs too much if I have the power to change without them, so I can also say within the last 1 year I have been to completely get off of all blood sugar meds and maintaining with just my new food / drink diet.
That was one of the 2nd hardest things I have had to go through and I have a top 5 of just trash things having gone through. Past that..
Running and just getting out, at any time, has been my number 1 savior.

First it was running with the phone on my armband with some beats, simply running until tired. Not knowing anything.
Then watch 1 or S0, whatever it is called. Runkeeper and other apps really seemed to sync with me and I was enjoying just getting back outside doing my thing again.

The S4 is going to be one of my most treasured pieces and not because of what it is, but because of those changes it was able to help me make. I know I had to make them but that watch tho. It's good.

I know it's a longer than normal story. But it makes me a little teary eyed. There have just been so many things available to me, from friendships, to work, to personal wellness.... I am just very grateful of the changes I have been a part of the last few years. I appreciate that it all happened, I was able to go through it, handle it and make a change. A lot of personal growth recently has been occurring.

I mad not of made any sense there .... yes, Yes I have purchased. Thank you.

And i manage to sell my series 3 but...
I didnt preorder haha
I hope i can just visit the store and buy it on friday...

I just preordered S4 through ATT. I had some issues with S3 disconnecting from the X once it was out of range and not reconnecting despite both devices being next to each other. I am hoping my new combo of S4 and XS Max doesn't have those issues. I'm hopeful the inclusion of BT 5.0 and new OS on each will somehow fix what I had experienced with S3 and the X. *fingers crossed*

Yep, I'm upgrading for many of the reasons already mentioned: larger screen, ECG, new processor, speakers, etc. The big one for me is the larger screen, since I have difficulty sometimes seeing small text on my Series 3 screen. Apple is giving $250 for 42mm SS Series 3 units, so that helps a bit on the cost.

The wife is getting a big upgrade. She's going from a 38mm aluminum to a 40mm Hermes! :D

I think the S3 to S4 is way more justified than X to XS or Max, but I’m going to hold out at least one more gen

The better screen and smaller size combined with the new health features are neat, but not needed right now. It looks like the S3 can also detect low heart rate so not sure why they made that a big talking point of the S4. I’ll see what the S5 brings and then make a decision, I’ll probably get an S4 then unless the 5 brings huge improvements as well.

Using money from the apple giveback program to pay for the watch upgrade this year. Mostly for larger screen and haptic feedback on the dial.

I was going back and forth, and I finally pulled the trigger. Going to use the giveback program and trade in my Series 3 to help pay for it since Apple is offering $225 which is not bad considering they are selling outright for around $300 and isn't worth the extra trouble to try an sell and the market is about to be flooded with them

I think the Series 4 is the model to upgrade to and even if Apple does release a Series 5 during fall 2019, it likely won’t be that much of an upgrade over this current model, given all the changes they made this year. Similarly to how the iPhone X and iPhone XS are very similar.

Will the battery ever be better. Fine if it’s thicker if the battery life was better

I did a run with the updated workout app this morning. Going to dump the Nike run app and just use the workout app. I wish they would have just added this awhile ago. The default apps are a lot more useful now.
I'm glad to hear that. I've never used the workout app but will probably make the transition the next time I run. Hoping the improvements to the app will be useful in helping me improve my running

I dumped the Nike app and went default with my AW3 some while ago because I was so frustrated with the quality of Nikes app. There is a nice utility app called HealthFit that auto-uploads to Strava and other services that I use in combination with the workout.app (which is gold since the Strava app sucks, too)...

That app is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks! All my running info is currently in Runkeeper and I don't want to lose it if I transition over to the workout app.

Pleasure. Works rock solid for me

I have an iPhone X and AW 3 LTE. I have enjoyed both. The way I feel right now, I'm still very happy with both. But I'm more likely to upgrade my Apple Watch than my iPhone X (unless I fall in love with the XS Max when I get to see it in person). Seems like there is a bigger update on the AW side.

I could but I don't think I will.

I think the new screen is awesome - significant improvement in complications. But otherwise, the new capabilities don't really draw me in, so I'll hold off and keep my S3 for now.

I got the S0 at release and somehow managed to hold off until the S3 came out. The S0 was just so slow, barely usable by then - probably from the get go in hindsight, really.

But the S3 has the key features I need and is fast enough, and the S4 doesn't add enough for me, so I'm fine waiting. It took quite a few iPhone iterations for it to get to a point where I didn't upgrade every year, but the AW already isn't leaping forward by huge bounds, at least S3 to S4.

I've only had an Apple Watch since March of this year (an S3) but yes, I will be upgrading to the S4. The screen size, ECG, and hardware upgrades are easily worth it to me.
