Is the Stainless Steel Space Black now exclusive to the Hermès models? I'm only seeing the Graphite, Silver and Gold options for the Apple Watch Series 6 Stainless.

Appears so. Glad I’m not in the market for a S6, I wear the black link bracelet exclusively (bar gym) with my SB SS S5.

SB SS S6 only available in 40mm Hermes now, too rich for my blood for a 2-3 year watch purpose, too small for my taste and the only SS watch that goes with my link bracelet.

The best thing about this rather dull event for me is how satisfied I am with my S5 and 2018 1TB iPad Pro!

Isn’t it a little bizarre to have two finishes so closely related?
I wonder if it’s to get rid of remaining space black casings?
Or to give Hermès an exclusive, albeit “last-year’s,” finish. Are there Hermès bands that wouldn’t be a perfect match with the new color?

I'm kind of curious about how much of a difference is there between the two finishes. At the very least, there's no longer a price premium between the SS and Graphite SS finishes (compared to SS and SBSS pricing). Time to go and compare my SBSS with the Graphite SS at the store. Oh wait, that's until Friday.

I think for most bands it’s fine, but graphite would look bad with the SB link bracelet I’m guessing.

Wow graphite < space black. Looks like I’m holding off on the Series 6. Unless of course it’s due to supply constraints and they release it further down the road like they did early with the Apple Watch. You used to only be able to get the space black with the link bracelet.

At least on Apple's site, they look very, very similar.

I think it’ll be difficult to tell a difference unless you’re comparing them side by side.

My interpretation (FWIW, as colour is über subjective) is that this WATCH 'Graphite' is a more "brown-toned" (warm) black, while 'Space Black' was a "blue-toned" (cool) black.

I was hoping to be able to get the Space Black stainless steel model this time around…

Although it's technically still available (Hermès line) if I had the money, it's no longer an option in my size (40mm case only now).

Wait, is SBSS the one that looks like wet looking black in this video? In the pic it looks very close to Graphite SS.

I think from the photo above (and creating a style of each myself in the watch studio) they are the same. Flipping back and forth between them, I cannot see any differences at all.

From my experience, you simply can't judge the colors from the product renderings on Apple's website.
I'm pretty sure that the new "Graphite" colour will simply NOT have the marvellous effect of the SS Space Black color version - that is, optically melting the display with the housing and making the watch appear as one single monolithic, black object.
And that is really a shame and I'm really hesitating on buying the new S6 as I've so very much fallen in love with the appearance of my S4 SS SB watch...

Btw., on Apples German website, you can buy the Hermes Edition in Space Black with a 44mm casing...

This was a real let-down, as I've had a space black watch ever since they were released. I got the graphite, with black sport band (which you had to custom order--I mean why don't they have a graphite SB?!?!). Apple disappointed me for no reason.

Based off the description of the Milanese loop, it seems that graphite is PVD instead of DLC.

I wonder if Apple decided they wanted a black SS option that looked more metallic in more lighting. I love my SBSS but it doesn’t even look like metal in indoor and dimmer lighting. The graphite will probably look more like metal.

The real question in my mind is whether this finish will be as durable as the space black, which seems to be virtually indestructible.

I hear you, but when I white balanced those images above and used a color checker, I had a hard time deciphering between the hues at all. Just some slight brightness differences exist.

It seems odd that Apple would essentially use the exact same color in their marketing material for both Space Black and Graphite, but who knows??? I guess we'll see.

Personally, I wouldn’t mind the contrast. Anyone that’s owned the space black stainless, knows that you can actually pair quite a few slate colors and it looks great. I think once we get some solid photos With angled lighting of what it actually looks like paired, it might change your mind.

FYI, the S6 SBSS from Hermes IS available in 44mm ... I ordered one today.

sometimes it maybe to create a change of pace color to drive upgrades... i had a SBSS S3 and S4 and the one thing I knew is for my S6 I wanted something different! the SB was amazing and IS amazing but eventually it a hulk of black and its nice to have a change of pace... a nice gray that is subtle but still acts as a border probably is what the doctor ordered.

But...there is no matching band for that color (sport band, anyway).

Based on the listed specs (Apple Store app in the UK) the graphite is DLC

That's good. Perhaps they are making the Milanese loop using PVC now so that it doesn't scratch the screen like previous versions?
