At what part of my statement did I say I had the answer for that? Let me bold and highlight the part of the statement you should have paid more attention to.

I never asked or stated I wanted it to be a dedicated gaming machine. Apparently having desktop graphics is gaming-exclusive. I'm sorry I missed that memo that stated that was the case.

Well said. It is branded as an all-in-one "desktop" computer, and pretty sure most of us here disappointed in GPU do not expect some SLI configuration with liquid cooling or tons of fans. I just wanted a solid desktop GPU to do moderate gaming along with all the other things I do with a desktop - as opposed to a laptop.

No offense, but has there even been an iMac (since migration from Tubes to FlatPanel) that used a Desktop GPU?

I was under the impression, they were always mobile GPUs. If so, then it's hard to get disappointed that something that has never happened over the last X iterations hasn't happened this time. It's like being disappointed that the US 2013 Volkswagen Jetta didn't come with All-Wheel-Drive, when they've never had them.

If there WERE desktop GPUs in the past, then I guess it's a valid disappointment.

That being said, from all early indications the 680MX won't be that far off from a decent desktop GPU. But who knows how much that will cost, or if there will be issues.

The top end GPU in the new 27" iMac will be able to minimally run most games out today with ultra settings at 1080p and might pull it off for some at 1440p. That doesn't qualify as "moderate" gaming for you?

I think you probably need to just bite the bullet and get a real full blown, nothing held back, state of the art gaming machine from Falcon Northwest. This amazing computer will however set you back over $17,000. but it is among the very best possible options as I configured it on the planet earth today.

Check it out for yourself. This bad boy will do "moderate" gaming and more but it is going to cost you.

Go to the configuration page and max it out like I did. Watch the price rise to astronomical levels but there will be no compromises made. This machine is pure, unadulterated state of the art for computer gaming.

This here was the system I configured for myself. As you can see, it easily blows the top spec iMac completely away! It will cost a little bit more though and you will be stuck running windows instead of OS X, although that problem could be solved by also buying a Mac to go with it.

Here is your customized Mach V system configuration.

Yes but once again you pay a hefty premium to get something great, all the other options below the 675m are sub par so if you want a genuine AIO that will really do everything under one hood, it is going to cost you an arm and a leg!

I don't think any of the Nvidia mobile GPUs are subpar. Even the 640M trades blows with the 6970M in some games. I am sure there will be a premium for the 680 MX. It is not a cheap GPU.

The iMac is an All-in-One desktop machine. It is designed for simplicity and efficiency and not brute power and speed. I don't know why this is so hard to understand. The iMac is designed to give people on a budget an all purpose ready to use machine right out of the box that doesn't require any extra effort or the need to purchase expensive hardware accessories to use it. For $1299 you can get a monitor, and a very decently spec'd computer, whereas any other route would presumably be more expensive if you purchased the monitor and computer separately from Apple.

If you want brute power and top notch performance than spend the extra money on the Mac Pro. If you don't like the price tag then that is your dilemma and not Apples.

Err, do you work for this company? You've posted more-or-less this same spiel twice now.

In two appropriate places because actually, I thought it humorous where a fair number of people talk about a run of the mill home built PC as if it is comparable to the quality of a Mac, OS X, the real and decent gaming performance it actually has, etc. The guys who think you need a separate gaming machine to get a decent experience sound like they should just go all out, no holds barred. So in these two places, I presented a spec'd out machine that ought to please them. ;-)

And no, I have no relationship with Falcon Northwest.

Over 24 hours on I'm still shocked at what I saw yesterday. What on earth is the point of such a thin iMac. It's staggering really!!

Don't see the point either, but if it doesn't hinder performance, it's ok by me. I'm gonna push the top end 27" with a 680MX to the max, so it better be good at heat dissipation.

Even if my status here is a newbie I've been working with Apple-stuff for over 10 now and I know more about the company and their products than a lot of other People around here. And now I'm really fed up...this one goes out to all the complainers, fanboys and lil Kids around here:
Applestuff was and ever will be a mixture of high-end design and high-end technology. If you buy applestuff you pay engineers as well as designers. If you want the latest tech looking like crap,go windows.if you want gaming,go windows. If you can't afford their stuff,go windows. And if you can't realize what's apple's philosophy is really about, do stopp anoying me by writing brainless posts and fuxxing GO WINDOWS!
