Can former iPhone users who have switched to the SGS2 comment on how the transition has been and whether or not they are happy with their decision? I'm contemplating making the move but would like to hear from people who have switched first. Thanks.
this, an unbiased poster too please. lol
Someone called? Here I am.
iPhone user since 2007. Have been part of the MacRumors society since then. Owned every iteration of the iPhone since the original to the iPhone 4. Currently uses a MacBook Air and an iPad 2. So none of this "you're a hater" and "gtfo to xda" rubbish. You're just being a troll if you call me a hater.
I used my iPhone 4 for everything you expect it to do: Surf the web, check my E-Mails, update my twitter & facebook, read my RSS feeds, take notes and photos, play some casual games, listen to music, watch movies streamed over Air Video, etc etc.
I switched to a Galaxy S II a few weeks ago as soon as it came out in the UK. I imported it, VAT-free and unlocked. And let me just say this - the transition is absolutely flawless. Not only is the SGS2 able to do what my iPhone 4 did, it could do almost everything better, and even do things that the iPhone 4 can't do.
Android is no longer the baby and fragmented mess a year ago. It isn't as polished as iOS, but function-wise, it's beyond it. I never even have to leave my home screen to do half the things I do on my iPhone, which is my music controls, facebook and twitter updates and RSS. They're all done via. widgets. This is such a powerful system and I have no idea how I lived on the iPhone before this. Launching apps is just outdated.
The SGS2 syncs flawlessly with iTunes. Having used an iPhone for 4 years obviously my library is all organized on it. I got iSyncr and everything is flawless. I can even use any other third party players like PowerAMP (MUCH better than the iPod app) and all my iTunes playlist work without a sweat. Not to mention I can actually sync my phone with iTunes wirelessly. As of iOS4, the iPhone still goes by with a cable. That's so awkward now that I've used Android and experienced flawless wireless syncing.
I can mount the phones as a USB storage device and just drag-and-drop files into the file system. You can't do that with an iPhone. I have tons of MKVs unconverted. I just drag them onto the phone's SD card and they all play like butter even up to 1080p. My iPhone just dies on the first frame. Here is a video:
Adding onto that, since there's a file system, it's not a mess like iOS where each app has its own storage space you access in iTunes. I can download something in my browser (a lot I can choose from and set as default, unlike iOS), and immediately open it in another app. .rar? I can immediately send it to an UnRAR app, and then immediately open the .mkv I UnRAR'd in a player app. This is bliss and I have no idea how I got by on the iPhone before.
Trust me when I say this and this is coming from an old iPhone user who's owned one for longer than most of the fanboys - anyone saying the iPhone 4 is still the best phone and better than the SGS2 have never held one in their hands. Anyone with common sense who has tried an SGS2 will never consider the iPhone 4 a better phone. The hardware lays waste to the iPhone 4 and the software is better too. So what if iOS has more apps? Android has ALL the apps I need.
/cues the down-rank from the hater.
