Can former iPhone users who have switched to the SGS2 comment on how the transition has been and whether or not they are happy with their decision? I'm contemplating making the move but would like to hear from people who have switched first. Thanks.

this, an unbiased poster too please. lol

Someone called? Here I am. ;)

iPhone user since 2007. Have been part of the MacRumors society since then. Owned every iteration of the iPhone since the original to the iPhone 4. Currently uses a MacBook Air and an iPad 2. So none of this "you're a hater" and "gtfo to xda" rubbish. You're just being a troll if you call me a hater.

I used my iPhone 4 for everything you expect it to do: Surf the web, check my E-Mails, update my twitter & facebook, read my RSS feeds, take notes and photos, play some casual games, listen to music, watch movies streamed over Air Video, etc etc.

I switched to a Galaxy S II a few weeks ago as soon as it came out in the UK. I imported it, VAT-free and unlocked. And let me just say this - the transition is absolutely flawless. Not only is the SGS2 able to do what my iPhone 4 did, it could do almost everything better, and even do things that the iPhone 4 can't do.

Android is no longer the baby and fragmented mess a year ago. It isn't as polished as iOS, but function-wise, it's beyond it. I never even have to leave my home screen to do half the things I do on my iPhone, which is my music controls, facebook and twitter updates and RSS. They're all done via. widgets. This is such a powerful system and I have no idea how I lived on the iPhone before this. Launching apps is just outdated.

The SGS2 syncs flawlessly with iTunes. Having used an iPhone for 4 years obviously my library is all organized on it. I got iSyncr and everything is flawless. I can even use any other third party players like PowerAMP (MUCH better than the iPod app) and all my iTunes playlist work without a sweat. Not to mention I can actually sync my phone with iTunes wirelessly. As of iOS4, the iPhone still goes by with a cable. That's so awkward now that I've used Android and experienced flawless wireless syncing.

I can mount the phones as a USB storage device and just drag-and-drop files into the file system. You can't do that with an iPhone. I have tons of MKVs unconverted. I just drag them onto the phone's SD card and they all play like butter even up to 1080p. My iPhone just dies on the first frame. Here is a video:

Adding onto that, since there's a file system, it's not a mess like iOS where each app has its own storage space you access in iTunes. I can download something in my browser (a lot I can choose from and set as default, unlike iOS), and immediately open it in another app. .rar? I can immediately send it to an UnRAR app, and then immediately open the .mkv I UnRAR'd in a player app. This is bliss and I have no idea how I got by on the iPhone before.

Trust me when I say this and this is coming from an old iPhone user who's owned one for longer than most of the fanboys - anyone saying the iPhone 4 is still the best phone and better than the SGS2 have never held one in their hands. Anyone with common sense who has tried an SGS2 will never consider the iPhone 4 a better phone. The hardware lays waste to the iPhone 4 and the software is better too. So what if iOS has more apps? Android has ALL the apps I need.

/cues the down-rank from the hater. ;)

90% of iPhone owners don't care about the actual specs. Not 90% of the worlds population. The iPhone is one of the most sold phones ever. There has been 4 iPhone's ever created and it has sold hundreds of million devices. Android has hundreds of devices. How could you possibly compare something that has made hundreds of devices, to a company that has made 4 phones. One every year.

LOL, exaggerate much?

This is from www.Numberof.net

Number Of iPhones Sold

• For more stats on : World

How many iPhones have been sold worldwide?

More than 41,152,350.

There have been a total of 41,152,350 iPhones sold worldwide from October 2007 up to the end of 2009. This is based on data from the market research firm Canalys released on February 2008 and February 8, 2010. Broken down, this translates to 25,103,770 units sold in 2009, 13,727,740 in 2008, and 2,320,849 sold for the last quarter of 2007.

Yes up to Feb 2010 but add in another 10 million,..... which is a very high number and it dont even equal 100 million. Now that is a lot of devices but please, it isnt hundreds of millions either.

Combined with the iPod touch, there have been over 75 million sold. And that number is since late Jan, 2010.

 I had no idea that was possible, I didn't even bother looking into it. Very cool.

...Many members here refuse to accept facts about Android vs iOS and immediately call anyone that uses Android a "troll"...

Maybe that's because of the 'phandroid' trolling and spamming that has been occurring in this forum. Perhaps now that the main offenders have been banned some sort of balance will return.

There are a lot of things that people think are impossible, but are certainly possible for Android. Here are the Market links for the apps I mentioned before.

iSyncr
Buy this to sync your Android device with the Mac. You can even choose to sync to the SD card or the phone itself. All the playlists will work regardless what music app you use. $3

iSyncr Wi-Fi Add-On
Shell out the extra money if you want wireless syncing. Totally worth it imo. $1.

PowerAMP
The best music player ever on a mobile device. Excellent UI and widget, equalizer and ID3 editor. Who says Android doesn't have good apps? Free 15 day trial, unlock for $5.

Enjoy your superphone. :D

^ That's great, thanks! In general I use my iPod Nano G3 or my iPod Touch for music, audio books, and films, because I try to spare my phone battery. But I'm gonna have to try this out. :D

I'm already using the Kindle app on the SGS2. That probably works more or less the same as it does on the iPhone, I would think.

Edit: Really nice video BTW.

It's sort of a waste to not use the SGS2 for video, especially, since the screen is so good and its Exynos chipset will decode any format, be it MKV, AVI or FLV, up to 1080p, without converting like a knife cutting butter. You can get mVideoPlayer. This app is the one I used in my video. It will play anything you throw at it. Free from the market but you can donate to the dev.

The battery is a problem but you can buy spares and exchange them on the go. Using Apple products for long makes us forget the fact you can actually change your batteries yourself. You can get a charger with three 1800 mAh batteries for less than $20. Remember the iPhone 4 only has 1300 mAh and it's not even replaceable. Your nano obviously can't hot swap its batteries either. The SGS2 can. Take advantage of it.

As for the Kindle app, yeah it's the same as the iPhone one. As you can see from my signature I have a real Kindle, and obviously I'd opt to use that instead of looking at the backlit display of my phone or iPad...xD

Dude thre's no comparison to be made. The SG2 is years ahead in technology to the iPhone. I have never used an iPhone and have no need to do so. Why would you compare is beyond me, there is absolutely no need you will be happy with the SG2. I made a list of all the main bennefits it has over iPhone here it is in case you missed it:

1. Much much faster processor.
2. More RAM
3. Bigger, high resolution screen.
4. True colors unlike the yellowish iphone
5. Clearer screen unlike the grainy, blurry iphone
6. FREE OPEN SOURCE OS instead of propertary greedy OS
7. More apps
8. Free Apps (on iPhone you have to pay for all apps:mad:)
9. Sleeker and better looking
10. Quality product unlike the cheap made in China iphone.

Are you still here?

I love my SGS2 but I also love the iPhone. I was very sad when I sold it. I don't think we need to hate on the iPhone our anything. Each to his own, really.

@Appslover: I really love my SGS2 but I don't think you're being very reasonable with your points. It's people like you that make us Android users look ignorant. Stop mindlessly hating on Apple and look at some solid facts which have been pointed out to you by fellow members.

me either, and that was one of my (small) issues with switching. thats really great to hear you can do that, and flawlessly. now i knew you can connect the phone as a harddrive but how does dragging and dropping files work (like movies, or even music). is there any specific folder i have to put them into, or can they be placed anywhere and set the movie/music player to use a specific directory for files? ive also researched poweramp, this app looks incredible. care to talk about texting a bit (i know, not really that important)? i use bitesms and i basically cant live without quicksend/quickreply straight from the lockscreen or any app. though that wouldnt stop me from switching if you cant, but the switch will make it a hell of alot easier lol.

No problem.

Android's file system work very similarily with a computer. So yeah, you can drag and drop the files anywhere and you can browse around your SD card with your file manager and open the files with different apps. It's very convenient.

As for audio, you can put the files anywhere but Android also had a default music folder that all players can access. This makes all the playlists universal in all apps. Don't worry and let iSyncr take care of it for you.

As for texting, yes, you can reply from any app. Just pull down the notifications bar and you can reply to any new text messages. Then hit the back button and you're back in your app.

All this you can only do on Android. :D

You realize your comparing a year old phone to a brand new one right? wait for the iphone 5 to compare.

1. faster processor? compare to i5
2. compare to i5
3. compare to i5
4. Whites on samsung phones are horrible. They have a blueish tint. IF they fixed it on the SG 2 great but still compare to i5.
5. Ive never heard anyone say the iphone's screen was grainy and blurry, thats a first. again compare to i5.
6. Who cares? I can jailbreak just like you can root so i could care less.
7. More apps? According to who? iOS has the most apps in total.
8. Free apps? I have jailbreak so everything is free if i wanted it to be. Besides i could care less about .99 apps. Android apps that are paid normally cost more than their iphone counterparts. And some android apps r def. very low/****** quality.
9. compare to i5 (very subjective).
10. Samsung has better quality than apple? HAHAHAH. wow are you a android fanboy or something? I own a verizon store and ive had multiple issues with the continuum and fascinate. More returns for those phones than any other droid.

Dude, we need to stop replying to his comment. He's been proven wrong about 10 times already and he's banned. Don't use him as a general representation of the intelligence of us Android users. xD

that i knew, but reply that way brings you into the texting app. by quicksend/quickreply i meant something like this:

Yes, I would take a screen shot to show you but I don't have any new text messages right now. A slider appears on the lock screen and you can reply directly.

That is the default lock screen but if you don't like it you can easily customize the lock screen. Nothing is a problem.

excellent, thanks for the reply. now i wish i knew when the sg2 would be releasing in the US / ATT. theres no official date yet, hopefully its soon as i am very eager to try this phone out.

I hope the S2 comes out in the next 30 days. I just signed on for 2 years with VZ with another i4 (white this time) to get on board UL before it goes kaput. Unfortunately none of the current VZ Android handsets stood out as hands-down superior to the i4 at this time.

Earlier this year I dropped Ma Bell, sold my i4, and picked up an Optimus V for a 3 month test drive. Decent phone for the price, but it was flaky. Still, there were things about Android OS that I enjoyed, and if a manufacturer can put out a solid phone that doesn't bug out on me I could see returning the i4 and making the switch. The S2 is really my last hope though...

i actually wonder how long itll take between the announcement and it actually releasing. im hoping itll be really soon. hopefully they dont announce it next week and have it release in july/august, booooooo

Not long I'd guess. T-Mo is getting the HTC Sensation in a couple of weeks and I think the S2 is supposed to be that phones most direct competitor. So thinking/hoping soonish...

The sensation is no match for the SGS2. It loses in processor, graphics, memory and display.

Can someone with the gs2 comment on the keyboard compared to the iPhone 4? Also how do you put the phone to vibrate and/or mute being that there is no hardware switch? These are both important factors in my decision so I'd appreciate some info if possible. Thanks.

Very close on paper, and it is being spoken of as being in the same league as the SGS2 in previews and reviews. Besides we all know that what happens on paper isn't always the best indicator of what happens in RL.
