Keynote - controlling presentations on my watch
Knock - lock or unlock my Mac with a tap
MyFitnessPal - food counter
Deliveries - package deliveries on my wrist
Activities - monitor my daily fitness

There is an app called hooks which I think is really cool. You can request all kinds of alerts to be sent to your watch. If a weather alert arises. If a TV show airs. If a twitter post is made by someone. If a web server goes down. It has a really impressive list of built in alerts.

I've used CalcBot and MLB At Bat more than any others so far. Both work great.

I've also been using an app I created to score my tennis matches. It was finally approved and available in the store as of yesterday. The Bluetooth range on the watch appears to be pretty great, it never loses a connection with the phone no matter where I am on the court.

If that's something that may interest you, check out MatchTrack on the App Store

The built-in stuff is pretty useful and these 3rd party apps are useful to me:
Alarm.com - security, locks, light controls.
Evernote - checklists
MyFitnessPal (could be better though)
Bible (verse of the day)

Don't yell at me for asking this question here....
I can't find another closely related thread title.
Does anyone know if Spotify
will sync to our watches?
They're App Store as if this am does not have one for the watch yet.... My watch is due for delivery tomorrow...

Strike that I found the thread

There is a thread on Spotify and the watch you should check out. But the answer is no it won't. You can get an app like Pacemaker to control Spotify from your watch but Spotify does not support the watch yet and you cannot place music on the watch from Spotify fro offline playback.

Focus

As someone who likes to procrastinate, this app is by far the best for me: Focus https://itunes.apple.com/app/focus-your-productivity-timer/id975017240?l=de&ls=1&mt=8

It has a very basic design but that's exactly what I need. I don't like long interactions and I think of lot of apps are missing the point by showing you all the fancy things they can do. The watch is for short interactions and apps like this (or the Hue app for example) are made for that.

Todoist has yet to release its Apple Watch friendly version. So I thought I'd use Reminders, only to discover it's M.I.A. on the watch. Google brought joy: http://appadvice.com/appnn/2015/04/up-next-lets-siri-set-reminders-on-apple-watch

App #1 = Up Next - What to do When
Universal, currently on sale at $1.99

You tell the iPhone app which calendars and reminder lists to handle. Then install on the watch. All I have to do now is say "hey Siri remind to do abc on Thursday at 2 >> tosses to the Reminders app, with a subsequent auto toss (within 15 minutes) to ToDoist. An IFTTT recipe handles that final automated piece -- several recipes exist, just IFTTT.com search: reminders todoist. I can view reminders as well.

For those who prefer another task manager, so long as it can pull from the reminders app, you've got your dictated tasks feature!
FYI: I caught grief with this app -- showed the dictated note on the watch, but couldn't create it. A quick reboot of the watch cured the hassle.

---
App #2 = Cloud Magic. That email app, when combined with its built-in ToDoist card, has proven to be manna from Inbox Zero heaven. I tried it initially for two reasons: instant push notifications, and incredible integration with ToDoist. (Once I realized ToDoist also has an IFTTT channel, OmniFocus -- used for years on iOS & Mac -- joined the native Mail app in my Ignore folder.) Universal. I believe all features recently went free for all.

---
App #3:
Professionally, HoursTracker HD: crazy easy to keep track of my billable hours now. Only one I found with such an extensive list of rounding options- up/down by xx minutes, including 6 minute intervals. Universal. Don't recall price.

Personally, WalkMeter: seems to be the only fitness tracker that will toss the precise data I want to the calendar I select, as well as to other services. Same as RunMeter, just preconfigured for walking, which one can change. Universal. Don't recall price.

I have 1 Password but when I install it on my Watch I get the message that it requires Pro features. Guess I'll have to look and see what that is.

Update: Just saw how I had to update 1 Password. After I updated it, I got a fatal error before it crashed. I sent the fatal error report to AgileBits then I did a reset on my iPhone. 1 Password functioned correctly but I still get the message on my Watch that I need the Pro version which I already have. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling 1 Password on my Watch to no avail. I've owned 1 Password for years (iMac, iPhone and iPad versions) and this is the first time I've ever had problems with it.

Update 2:
Went to AgileBits forum to clear up my Watch issue with 1 Password. Geez, not intuitive at all. I got it working now but not 100% happy with process . . . . seems clunky to me. I still LOVE 1 Password but the Watch app needs work.

Evernote: take dictated notes.
Todoist: review and add dictated short notes
Games: Golf game for Apple Watch, Cannon Shot Game for Apple Watch, Coin Tossing (it's a 3x2 bundle)
Runtastic: running tracking.

To you and all you guys using Clear on your watch - how is the 'tick off' function working in terms of lag?

I've been using Wunderlist on my watch and it doesn't really work to tick off items on my lists because the lag is so horrible. Often I have to press several times, then there's a hiccup and boom I've just ticked off three items I hadn't completed yet. Etc...

I'm using ToDoIst and it works like a charm. Only the long time if you start a new app is annoying as hell. Mostly it's faster to pick up the phone.

Thanks! This app is definitely less laggy. Would be perfect if today's tasks were actionable directly in the Glance, like with Wunderlist. But this is already tons better, great tip! :)

Telegram

It is basically WhatsApp "clone" but more modern and overall I like it more than WhatsApp. Also you can use it on any device (tablet, computer... there's native app for about everything). And their Watch app is really good. It's the best third party app I use. You can read and send messages. Also each notification about new message has an option to mute that message thread for 1 hour in case you don't want to be harassed by some group chat for example. And they even call their current Watch app as "alpha".

Any updates? It's been a while and now there's WatchOS 2. I know there is a thread about updating apps, but I am more interested in useful apps.

This could be a great thread if it was updated more often (unless there simply isn't any good useful Apple Watch apps being released these days)

I personally have to admit there's some big apps out there for the iPhone which you can see could have a place and a use on the AW but developers don't seem to be jumping on this.

Time Unit - Game.

Free adventure/upgrade style game with small Bejewelled element to get upgrade points.

Nice little waste of 5 minutes or so.

---------------------------

Pedometer ++ - Health

Great step monitor with a nice complication with goal gauge.

Also detects how many flights of stairs you've walked and runs inline with the Activity app figures.

---------------------------

Poison Maps - Navigation

Similar to "Around Me" but I think it's better.

Also works and looks great on the iPhone.

---------------------------

Carrot Weather - Weather

Yes, it's not the cheapest but for me in the UK it has to be the most accurate.

Complication is good with a "Feels Like" temperature reading.

There's a free version to try but read what you get for the premium version, for the increased complication updates it was a bit of a no-brainer for me.

(I still have Dark Sky but find this to be inaccurate most of the time, yes it looks nice but if gives wrong readings, what's the point.

--------------------------

Eventswidget - Calendar Notification

Really an iPhone app but has a great complication for the AW which shows times and all day events.

--------------------------

Spark - Email Client

Looks and works better than the stock email app oh, and it's free.

--------------------------

Well that's me for the moment but I'll try and update this thread when I stumble across new (useful) apps.

Please note, some trash is another persons treasure so not everyone will like what I've included above.

Kind Regards and all the very best for the new year

Andy

Things allows you to have your to-dos listed on the large modular face or a small complication. You touch the complication and you can check off the items you complete or move to another day.

Things is probably the best to-do app. To-do on steroids possibly, but it is easy to use and uses Siri and reminders.

My top apps are:

Drafts
Carrot
Things
Fantastical

None of these were free, but they made the watch more valuable to me. Drafts and now Things are the closest to killer apps for me because I rely on notes and to-dos and I can record with drafts and use Siri for to-dos.

Thanks for the reply!

I have Things latest version installed but can't get the complications to show up...? I have rebooted both phone and watch, and un-paired and re-paired the watch. Can't find anything on this in Things support pages. Any idea what could be causing this?

Like others, I am disappointed by the third party app offering on the Apple Watch - even Apple's Watch App Store is pretty pathetic. Nevertheless, there are a few good ones out there; mine are:

  1. Fantastical (Reminders and Calendar integrated). Good complication
  2. Carrot Weather - I prefer this to Dark Sky (not so on the iPhone though). Good complications
  3. Natwest (banking - actually pretty quick, but I don't use it much)
  4. Calcbot - although not a native app, it's plenty quick
  5. Star Walk 2 - simple, nice looking app

Try PCalc lite. I prefer this on the AW to Calcbot.

It's also free.
