Things allows you to have your to-dos listed on the large modular face or a small complication. You touch the complication and you can check off the items you complete or move to another day.

Things is probably the best to-do app. To-do on steroids possibly, but it is easy to use and uses Siri and reminders.

My top apps are:

Drafts
Carrot
Things
Fantastical

None of these were free, but they made the watch more valuable to me. Drafts and now Things are the closest to killer apps for me because I rely on notes and to-dos and I can record with drafts and use Siri for to-dos.
Nevermind my question about the complications, got it to work :)

Cool. You like the app?
Yeah, very slick I have to say. Ticking off items on the list is definitely less laggy than on other to do apps for AW. And I love how you can enter a new item via dictation and then decide with a tap whether it goes in Today or Inbox. This one is a keeper for me. The only bummer is that I'll have to poney up $50 for the Mac app now......... I'm using the free trial right now but it's too cool... LOVE the Ctrl + space bar to call up the fast item entry.

Thanks for reminding me of this one. I bought Things for iOS wayyyy back, I think already for my 3G if that's even possible, but didn't know they had put this much work into the AW app.

I have Drafts in my iOS wish list too, will probably end up buying that one too...

As you say, these apps make the AW so much more worth the investment! :)

I'm finding Things to be the most useful app because of what you wrote. I can use Siri to note a reminder and it sits in the apps inbox where I can assign to whenever. Plus the someday option and scheduling reoccurring replaced my use of 2do which was good but no complication.

Drafts is great for dictation and getting your ideas and thoughts down for later use. It's like the simple app Just Press Record but Drafts converts to text and each dictation is a separate log entry for you to later use. Love it.

Things is like a to do list on steroids. I am so glad I bought it.

I like Things even though on the expensive side relative to most App on the App Store
When I went to download the App on my MacBook it was $ 55, after having already paid $ 13 for the iPhone and Watch ! I have sent them an email an await response

Must say the most disappointing part of the Apple Watch so far, is not the watch itself or the features, but the lack of great apps after the 2.0 update is pretty incredible - I use mine for running, and have used Nike+ since the first iPod Nano had it via a chip (ever since been using it on my iPhone and the Nike GPS watch, so I'm pretty invested in it) but the Nike Running on the Apple Watch still sucks big time - it's 1.0 app, it says they are not allowed to use the heart rate monitor and it's slow and terrible to run with..

I really don't get why many big players (especially those with the most obvious app-categories like running) doesn't come with good options here. It would be a killer app for me

Could it be that developers are holding out for the Apple Watch 2 which will no doubt be better and faster.

Only for us to then be faced with new apps requesting the latest device to run.

I hope I'm wrong but as with the iPhone, some of the newer apps won't run on the earlier handsets.

I really don't think this product is going to fall into that iPhone upgrade cycle thing. What? Are you going to obsolete a $10k watch in one year?

Very true.

Good point.

I suppose you could say that those happy to shell out $10k on a watch aren't going to lose too much sleep if it needs updating a year down the line.

So I finally bought Drafts and I can confirm that it's an awesome app. I love the way you can set up a ton of one-click tools in the customisable toolbar on the iPhone. On the AW, the quick access to my quick drafts is very convenient (I'm still baffled that Apple didn't add that functionality to their own Notes app...)

But the dictation doesn't work at all for me. I'm not a native English speaker but I've lived in the States for a year and speak English most of the time in my professional life, and I know that my pronunciation isn't completely horrible. Yet with Drafts I have to re-do every single entry 5-10 times before it gets anywhere near what I'm trying to have the app write...? It seems to be due to app lag since I don't have this problem as extensively with Siri alone.

Honestly, I don't think Apple will have the slightest trouble doing that. But I admit that it would be a rather extreme situation for Edition owners... Maybe Apple will design the new internals in such a way that Gen 1 watches can have their innards replaced? At a cost obviously, if that happens I'd guess around $1000 for the procedure.

Need to find a good email application. My email app is the only place I like segregation. Don't like my inboxes combined.

Can anyone help me to point out the difference between Things (to-do list) and Fantastical 2 (Calendar). Which one is better in term of apple watch complication?

They are really two different things although fantastical will bring in your reminders it isn't a to do list program. It is a calendar. They both have a complication and if you use the small complication, things will show a circle with a profess on your to dos while fantastical will show a small calendar with the next appt without detail, just the time.

With the large modular complication, fantastical will have your next appt with details on what it is. Things will show up to three to do's in order alphabetically.

If you click on the things complication it brings up your to do list and it loads fast. You can then add items using your voice. Fantastical loads a little slower but it brings up your day(s) events.

They were on sale last week so maybe this week as well maybe?

Things is the best to do app and has a great iPhone app. It does projects and future items and when you use Siri to add a reminder, it gets added to the inbox so you can direct it to a to do for today or scheduled date or even whenever.

Fantastical is the best calendar app but it isn't a to do though you can add reminders using Siri or the app and it shows at the top of the calendar.

Thanks for the details, I have Things on my watch (as you can see in my other post) and it's doing great. I was just wondering if Fantastical 2 features cover Things (and some sort display a mixture of appointments/to-dos as complication).

If F2 only shows next appointment, I think the stock calendar app or Outlook app are enough for me. I'll be staying with Things.

The large complication still shows the next meeting or current meeting until it is over. You would need to look at the glance to see more. Maybe there is something you can do to change that but I haven't really looked.

Things can be used as a calendar I guess if you arrange right. I think it alphabetizes the items unless you have due dates.

My favorite most used app is Apple Music. I also like that it has AirPlay controls built in, which I don't believe is accessible from anywhere else.

I use SimpleControl quite a bit as well. It is the remote app formerly known as Roomie Remote. It is excellent and can control complete media systems in seperate rooms of my house. I typically go to my iPhone for a lot of the controls, but during movies or just laying on the couch watching TV, it is easier just to flip my wrist and hit pause or play. It isn't always the fastest to load, but still quite convenient.

Directv also has a nice app, but I mainly use SimpleControl.

Overcast/Downcast - nice to control these on my watch, as well. Just wish I could get to AirPlay controls from the apps.

Wunderlist - nice for lists. You can find the list, hold down the screen, tell Siri to add an item and it shows up in the list. Very nice for my grocery list. It also lets you check stuff off as completed.

iDevices - Siri or direct control of lights (via a wifi power plug).

Do button - I have a WeMo and this makes it easy to turn it on and off.

Workflow has a couple useful features if you just want to pull up top stories from different sources. It has other features, but this one is my favorite.

Feedly is nice for a quick look at RSS feeds. Don't get me wrong, I don't read a ton of articles on my watch, I just like to look at it as an overview (kind of like browsing magazines at the store) to see if I want to pick up my phone/iPad.

TheScore - great for keeping up with my favorite teams. Sends me a notification 15 minutes before a game starts and sends another notification with the score ( a bit dangerous if you record games and watch later, though).

Fantastical2 - calendar

Carrot Weather

Twitter

Shazam

Ratings - Consumer Reports subscriber app. A to Z category list and it also accepts voice entry to search for product reviews. If you pull up a category like bacon, it will show their top rated brands. It typically has a pic of the product which can help you find it.

CNN is my news notification app of choice.

Arlo - security camera notifications of motion are also very nice to have on the wrist. Typically at work, I will ignore notifications on my phone, but having important notifications on my wrists means I will check them in a timely manner. I plan to also use Deliveries, but when I have motion at my door, it is typically a package. I still have to pull out the phone to check recorded video or a live feed, but it is nice to know when I should check.

Probably a few others I forgot, but there are many apps that I like to use. I don't just use the watch for notifications. I probably use it just as much as a remote control for Apple Music ( thanks to the nifty Siri feature and volume control) and podcast apps as anything...especially at work.

Apps I use regularly, in no particular order:

Carrot Weather (nice complications)
Wink (home automation - lights, garage door, door locks, etc.)
Thessa (adjust Nest thermostat)
Drip (NestCam viewer)
1Password (keeps a few complex access codes handy for me)
Do Button (IFTTT - integrates in to my Harmony AV remotes so I can turn TVs on & off, etc.)
Nano Reminders (iPhone's Reminders app lists on the phone & glances)

HeartWatch (awesome)

Authy

1Password

Yahoo! Weather (when it updates; I stick to the stock weather just for that reason)

I use it 95% of the time for notifications and quick text responses. The apps are just honestly too slow to be useful.

Apple needs to hurry up with native apps.
If Apple would have had useful apps upon release I might not have returned my SS Apple Watch.

I tried to like it but it had no value. Having to wake up the display was highly annoying.

Notifications on my wrist were also very irritating. I'm quite organized, I don't rely on notifications to keep me on track, so that's a bust.

An amateur athlete with an exceedingly accurate, measuring /tracking/iPhone enabled system that's far better than any smartwatch, that made Apple's fitness tracker useless.

What's left that AW can offer?
Nothing for my preferences.

I use Carrot, Departure, hue, M&S and Shazam the most, I also think the Tesco Credit Card App is quite useful.
A few of those Apps are for the UK market only.
