Yes another way Apple can get your money!

That said I've used it on my iPhone for years and it appears to work, depending on back ground sounds.

Problem is it doesn't know where the music is coming from, picking up songs played via iTunes.

It's not made by Apple, and it's free, so you don't spend any money on it.
And it works, not just appears to work.

I tried it but i`m not impressed, i had several songs playing on my MBP and everytime i get completely different results than what's currently playing. The recognition process does not seem to work.

Anyone else with this issue?

Not that this cannot be advantageous in any way whatsoever, but under what (even somewhat normal) circumstances would you be playing a song via your computer and not be able to identify it?

people still use that stock Mavericks desktop pic?

if i accidentally move or delete the desktop pic i currently use and happen to reboot, allowing this hyper-color wave pic to pop up, my heart skips a beat thinking there's something very wrong with my machine. it instantly reminds me of something very 'off' or detrimental - i hate that picture.

does anyone remember the stock pictures they used to use on every electronic store's computers in the early nineties, showcasing 'modern' VGA graphics? there was a white mouse with pink eyes, there was a seashell collage... i think there was a wave like the mavericks one. it just harkens to something way too old and full of technological limitations. hard to explain.

I'm glad it's not just me. The wave is good for hiding yellow patches on retina displays, though. Just sayin'.

Oh well, went to app store and it tells me no longer available in the U.S. clearly does not work.

This has stopped or at least intermittently not working now on Yosemite.

Even with popular songs the iOS App would pick up in seconds this App just sits in the menu bar doing nothing! :(

i'll answer my own question for anyone else having issues with it not tagging. See below response from Shazam Support:

Hi xxx,

Thanks for getting in touch, and apologies for the delay responding to your query.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having some problems with our Mac App not picking up music around you.

We know that there's been some problems with microphones on users' devices not being set-up in the necessary way, and have outlined the steps needed to remedy the situation in a Support article, which you can view here: https://support.shazam.com/hc/en-us/articles/204458078-Mac-App-Not-Getting-Results-Workaround

A forthcoming update to the app will fix this completely, meaning you won't have to re-configure your Mac in order to use Shazam.

I hope this does the trick, but please do let me know if you still have problems after following the above steps.

Kind regards,

James
